Transcript
00:00I'd like to thank everyone again for joining us here today to undergo an important responsibility
00:05of the Budget Committee in accordance with the Budget Act of 74, advancing this reconciliation
00:10bill to the House of Representatives, quote, without any substantive revision, end of quote.
00:17We will now move to opening statements, and I yield myself five minutes for opening remarks.
00:25Folks, I've said this from the beginning.
00:27This reconciliation bill is the principal legislative vehicle for advancing the full America First
00:34agenda, to realize President Trump's vision and the House Republicans' unwavering commitment
00:41to making America safe and prosperous again.
00:46How?
00:47By making our borders secure again, by making our laws enforced again, by making our government
00:54efficient and accountable again, by making the economy free again, by making America, American
01:02energy dominant again, by making work and the dignity of work and self-reliance in American
01:10value again, and by making the spending of the sacred treasure of our citizens responsible
01:17again.
01:18Today, we stand on the precipice of a generational opportunity to make an unprecedented investment
01:24in the safety and security of the American people by equipping our border patrol agents
01:29and our sons and daughters in the armed services with the tools and resources to safely and successfully
01:35do the first and most important job of the federal government to provide for the common defense.
01:40But we also have an urgent responsibility to put in place the policies that will unleash economic
01:48growth and future prosperity, reining in wasteful spending, and to begin restoring the fiscal health
01:55of our nation, which has been in rapid decline over the last couple of decades.
02:00I want to thank Speaker Johnson, Leader Scalise, and the entire conference leadership team for
02:06their patience, their resolve, and their steady hand throughout this process.
02:10I'm grateful for their commitment to regular order and to ensuring from the very beginning
02:17to the very end that this wouldn't be a top-down exercise.
02:21It would be truly a member-driven process.
02:24I want to thank my colleagues and the chairman of the 11 committees who worked tirelessly to
02:29meet the fiscal targets that this budget committee established in our resolution.
02:35No other budget committee and no other Congress from either party in the history of this budget
02:43committee has done more in a shorter period of time with the reconciliation initiative.
02:53A big reason that we were able to accomplish this is because of my budget committee colleagues,
02:59my Republican budget committee colleagues, and the seriousness and diligence in which they do
03:06their job, their commitment, and their conviction to our mission to restore fiscal sanity in this town,
03:16and in the people's house, and in this institution.
03:19I just want them to know that I've never been more proud to work with such committed patriots and public servants.
03:28So thank you all.
03:32Our budget reconciliation bill, and the product of your hard work, folks, the fruit of your labor,
03:40is that we're going to advance the most comprehensive tax reform in the history of our great country.
03:47And other pro-growth policies that will reign in the regulatory state.
03:52It will help right-size the people's government.
03:56And that will begin reining in this runaway spending.
04:01And after all is said and done, we will reduce the debt to GDP by almost 10 percentage points.
04:09And all of this while making a record investment in the security and defense of the United States of America.
04:18So it is one big, beautiful bill, but it's only one big, beautiful, and balanced bill
04:26because of the folks that you see up here on the dais, my Republican colleagues, and their hard work and leadership.
04:35And everybody, our party, our country, and our fellow Americans will be well served because of your efforts.
04:44And by the way, we did it with the smallest majority in the House in 100 years.
04:52In Washington, people say, when all is said and done, more is said than done.
04:58May that not be true of the 119th Congress.
05:03Today, let's make good on the American people's mandate
05:06by taking President Trump's America First vision and this America First policy agenda
05:14and making them a reality in the lives of our fellow citizens.
05:18Remember, the American people have spoken.
05:21They want a strong country.
05:23They want competent leaders.
05:25They want common sense policies.
05:28And they want from all of us a commitment to putting America and Americans first.
05:35Let's give the people what they voted for.
05:37And with that, I yield five.
