00:00Thank you, Congressman Swalwell, for your leadership on this.
00:04It's an honor to be in the presence of Sergeant Connell,
00:07who was forced from the police force because of severe injuries
00:11that were inflicted on him on January 6th
00:14when he fought valiantly for hours to defend us against the extremists,
00:20the Proud Boys, the Oath Keepers, and the mob of marauders who stormed the Capitol.
00:25It's an honor to be here with Officer Hodges,
00:27who was tortured in front of the eyes of the world on TV on the West Front
00:33when he got caught in the door and was pummeled by the rioters.
00:38They, along with Officer Dunn and Officer Fanon,
00:43have come to represent hundreds and hundreds of other officers
00:47who stood in the breach on that day and saved us.
00:50And to me, it's absolutely unspeakable that the Speaker of the House
00:55would continue not only to disrespect them, but to disrespect the rule of law
01:00by refusing to put this plaque up there.
01:03The very final sentence of the plaque reads,
01:05something to the effect that we will never forget your sacrifice and your service to us.
01:12Well, some people have already forgotten their service and their sacrifice,
01:16and in fact, they want everybody else to forget it.
01:19But we are here today because we will never forget how they stood in the breach to defend
01:24not just the Democrats, but the Republicans,
01:28and not just the members of the House, but the members of the Senate,
01:30and not just members of Congress, but Vice President Pence
01:33as they chanted, hang Mike Pence on that day.
01:36So I want to, again, thank them for their service.
01:39We will see to it that future generations of Americans
01:42will be able to regard this plaque
01:44and pay you the proper honor for everything you've done.
