00:00This bill is so important for so many reasons. It's been a hundred years in the making for a start.
00:05It is going to save pain and suffering for, well, over time, hundreds of thousands of people for generations to come.
00:15It can't come soon enough. It's going to be too late for me, almost certainly.
00:19But this is going to help alleviate so much pain and suffering for so many people and for their friends and families.
00:25I urge the MPs of Kent to vote according to the wishes of their constituents, over 75% of whom want this bill to go through.
00:37So I urge that the MPs listen.
00:41This bill is incredibly important. I mean, it's something I've cared about for a very long time because I believe in personal autonomy.
00:47And I believe it's been a longstanding injustice and the courts are very clear it's for Parliament to decide.
00:52So, I mean, it's an incredible privilege and responsibility for this to have come up while I'm an MP.
00:59And I did think long and hard about the bill when it first came out, just to make sure that it had the right levels of protections in it, particularly for people with disabilities.
01:08I mean, I was assured of that and I continue to be assured of that.
01:11And actually, if anything, during the committee stage, the amendments have made it stronger.
01:14Well, I mean, in fact, we have to do that in terms of dándom art but the responsibilities have changed, particularly if anything else's to make it bigger.
