00:00Patriots schedule. This is Randy from Providence. Randy, good morning.
00:05Hey, good morning, guys. How are you down there today?
00:08We're doing great. How are you?
00:10I'm good. I'm good. I'm excited with the schedule release last night.
00:14I think it looks like good news for the Patriots.
00:18Like, we already knew the opponents, right?
00:19So we already knew it was going to be the schedule, like the opponents that it was.
00:24But I think the two games that really caught my eye,
00:27the Raiders coming into New England in week one,
00:30like that's an early game at 1 p.m.
00:33And I was looking back through Ashton Gentry's history at Boise State.
00:36He only traveled to the East Coast Eastern time zone once in his college career.
00:42And that was for a 4 p.m. game.
00:44I mean, that can make a difference for West Coast kids and stuff, you know?
00:49So that's an offense we think is probably going to be running through the running back,
00:53running through him.
00:54And then the other game that really caught my eye was the Week 12 against the Bengals.
00:59Like, it's a little ways off.
01:01But hopefully, fingers crossed, we'd be coming off a home win against the Jets
01:06and have 10 days before that Bengals game.
01:09While the Bengals, on the other hand, are playing the Steelers the week beforehand,
01:13regardless of the quarterback situation.
01:15Those are always hard-fought games.
01:17And then, more importantly, they're playing the Ravens on Thanksgiving
01:20four days after the Patriots game.
01:22So they might be looking through the Patriots or at least think it's going to be
01:27the easiest of three games in an 11-day span.
01:30Yeah.
01:31And then the Patriots will have Trey Hendrickson to be able to go out there
01:35and get a bunch of passes against his former team.
01:38Well, as we speak, Elliott Wolfe is furiously working on that.
01:42Don't worry about it.
01:42And, Greg, I'm not going to overreact to a Bengals win again.
01:46So even if they win next year, I'm going to say, no big deal.
01:48Doesn't mean anything long-term.
01:49That'll be different.
01:51And then Aaron Rodgers coming to Gillette week three.
01:54Boss man pointed that one out with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
01:57Well, if he's going to be the quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, yes.
02:03He will, though.
02:04He's got to sign either today or tomorrow to prove.
02:06No, he doesn't.
02:07Well, that's what everybody said.
02:09They said he was waiting for the schedule release.
02:11He doesn't.
02:11If you're the Pittsburgh Steelers, honestly, and you're a playoff team, they were a playoff
02:16team last year, and they were a playoff team with Russell Wilson and a mix of Justin Fields.
02:23You're sitting there.
02:24You just, you know, went out and got DK Metcalf.
02:27You're a team that's, you know, Mike Tomlin is trying to get over the hump.
02:32And you've kind of had this relationship with Rodgers.
02:35There's no way you decide to go, all right, we're a playoff team, but we're going to go
02:39with Mason Rudolph and Will Howard.
02:41Okay, so just explain to me what he is waiting for.
02:44He has one, he only has one offer, one legitimate place that is interested, where he's going to
02:52be a starter.
02:53Yeah, I think maybe he's waiting for the very, right up until training camp starts to show
02:58up, you know.
02:59Why?
03:00I have no idea.
03:01Because he's a narcissist.
03:03Oh, he probably wants more money.
03:06Aaron Rodgers.
03:07But he already came out.
03:08He screwed himself.
03:09He came out and said he'd take $10 million.
03:11So if I'm the Steelers, I'm like, all right, we'll offer you $10 million.
03:14And if you don't take it, then I would be done with him.
03:16That was before the draft.
03:18If you're the Steelers, where are you going?
03:20I don't know.
03:21I mean, if you're the Steelers.
03:24Yeah.
03:25Sean, be honest.
03:26Where are you going if you're the Pittsburgh Steelers?
03:29Mike Tomlin won, what, nine games just a couple seasons ago with Duck Hodges and Mason
03:33Rudolph.
03:34Like, he can do it again.
03:35He doesn't care.
03:36I would bet double or nothing tattoos on my head that Aaron Rodgers is the starting quarterback
03:41of the Steelers.
03:42Yeah.
03:42No, I mean, I think it's going to happen.
03:44But I just, I think that this holding out is just a problem.
03:47He probably wants more money, right?
03:48He knows now.
03:49He's coming off an Achilles and he's like 80 years old.
03:52What are we talking about?
03:53More money.
03:54He had the Achilles two years ago.
03:55But he knows.
03:56He has all the leverage over the Steelers.
03:58Who are they going to have as they're starting?
03:59And if you say Mason Rudolph, that gives Aaron Rodgers another $3 million.
04:03Right.
04:03So, and you're not, you know, Will Howard was the six-round pick, the kid from Ohio State.
04:08So, you know, he's just basically, they took a flyer on him.
04:11You're a playoff team.
04:12If the Steelers weren't very good last year, then I would be like, okay, they don't have
04:16no expectations.
04:17Don't you think that Pittsburgh Steelers team has expectations about making the postseason?
04:21And granted, I know that Rodgers didn't have a great season last year, but you got to
04:27be, if I'm the Steelers organization, I'm like, all right, maybe he has one more shot
04:32left in him.
04:33Why wouldn't we do that?
04:35So, what do you think?
04:36What is your guess at the number he is holding out for?
04:40I bet he wants probably like, what did Russell Wilson get?
04:4320 million?
04:43I bet he wants like 20 million.
04:45I bet that's what he's looking for.
04:47You know, I bet he's looking for somewhere 20 million.
04:50I know he said the 10 M's things, Courtney, and that's probably before the draft.
04:55And now that he's seen that Pittsburgh didn't do anything, he's probably like, well, wait
04:59a second.
04:59Yeah, I know I said 10 M's, but I really want 20.
05:02And Pittsburgh, they got to make the decision.
05:04I think it would be stupid for them not to go after Rodgers and give him that money because
05:08if he does have one more kick at the can in him, you'd put yourself in a good position.
05:14And the people saying in here, like this diva talk about Rodgers, he said he had personal
05:19stuff going on while he was on Pat McAfee.
05:21Yeah, he talked about how he has like a significant other now.
05:24And he talked about how he had to reevaluate his inner circle because somebody was leaking
05:29out stories.
05:30Like the, there's too many, there's too much smoke that there's not fire that Aaron Rodgers
05:36is a diva.
05:36And that's why he's holding out.
05:37Like, I'm sorry.
05:38I don't buy the personal issue narrative when we're having Mike Florio saying he's heard
05:44from multiple sources that Aaron Rodgers is holding out because he didn't want the Steelers
05:48to get primetime games.
05:50Yeah, we know that side, but we know Rodgers is a diva.
05:53I'm just, I'm looking at it from the Pittsburgh Steelers side of things, the organization.
05:58That's where I'm looking at it.
05:59And then I'm looking at it, like if I'm Aaron Rodgers, I know that, okay, I'm a much better
06:06player than Mason Rudolph.
06:08So that's kind of where I see him probably trying to figure out, all right, I'm going
06:12to hold out until I get the money that I know I can get from Pittsburgh.
06:16And Pittsburgh's probably trying, they're both playing chicken with each other right
06:19now to see, you know, who's going to be able to either get more money or save more money.
06:26Also, I'm feeling spicy, like people on Twitch, he's not coming off an Achilles, he played
06:29last year, he stunk last season.
06:30So yeah, he's still coming back from an Achilles at 70 years old.
06:33Sorry.
06:34Yeah, he did stink last year.
06:35Like people, it was two years ago, not last year.
06:37Yep, I'm aware.
06:38Also, the age shaming is not necessary.
06:41I mean, he's old.
06:43He's 41.
06:44Many of us thrive into our elder years.
06:47Not as a professional football player.
06:50Right.
06:50Wiggy thrived last night.
06:51Greg, I would add this, I don't think Rodgers is going to be successful in Pittsburgh at
06:58all.
06:58Like, you have to be psychotic at that age to be in shape, learning a new offense, working
07:06with your team.
07:07You have to be obsessed with winning.
07:10And Aaron Rodgers is a guy that shows me every year, as long as he can find someone to blame,
07:16he'll back off.
07:17And, like, it's not, we all got spoiled by Brady at 41, 2, 3, 4, 5.
07:25Like, that is the exception.
07:26That is the anomaly.
07:27We saw it with Aaron Rodgers last year when he thought he could just come back and join
07:31the Jets and be fine.
07:33Like, you have to be absolutely insane.
07:36And Aaron Rodgers may be insane, just not football-wise.
07:39Well, I think Mike Tomlin is going to get sick of the Pat McAfee stuff pretty quick, too.
07:44Yeah, I mean, I agree with you.
07:45I think that Mike Tomlin, and I kind of agree with Curtis, I'm not saying that Aaron Rodgers
07:50is going to be good if he gets to Pittsburgh.
07:52I'm just looking at it, who's the best available quarterback out there for a playoff contender.
07:59And if Aaron Rodgers didn't want to play, he would have told everybody he's retiring.
08:05Right?
08:05So we know he wants to play.
08:07Yeah, but he has one opportunity.
08:10Right.
08:10And it's just, it's douchey when you know where you're going and you know that you're the
08:16option that they want.
08:17Right.
08:18Like, just...
08:19But it's a money thing, Greg.
08:21It's a money...
08:22In my opinion, it's a money thing.
08:24Don't give up the leverage when you have it until they give you close to what you want.
08:30Yeah, I feel like also maybe what's creating some more time here for Rodgers before his
08:35decision is that the Saints need a quarterback.
08:37So maybe he's trying to leverage the Saints against the Steelers to get more money.
08:41Because of Derek Carr's retirement.
08:43He's...
08:43Derek Carr's retiring, and they took that scrab beans.
08:46What's his name, Tyler?
08:47Tyler Shuck.
08:48Oh, so, you know, I just, I, based on what we know about Aaron Rodgers, isn't it safe
08:55to say, everybody, that he wants to play this year?
08:59Um, I would assume, I don't think he wants you to know that, but yes, I would assume that
09:03that's, that's his intention.
09:05Right.
09:05And I think if, if we know that he wants to play, and we know Pittsburgh needs a quarterback,
09:11a veteran quarterback, at least, it just...
09:14He's the kind of guy who wants a Derek Jeter farewell tour.
09:19Like, he's the kind of guy who wants everybody to know.
09:22So he will probably tell you.
09:24Right, like, this is my last year.
09:25He will tell you heading into it that it's his last season.
09:28Right, and I think that's probably what he's doing.
09:30Setting himself up right before training camp start.
09:33Like, you know, what's going on with Aaron Rodgers?
09:35Then boom, Greg, you're right.
09:36You know what?
09:37I'm going out.
09:38This is my last year.
09:39I agree with Pittsburgh.
09:40I think that we have a great team, blah, blah, blah.
09:43But it's not going to work with Mike Tomlin if he thinks he's going down there and telling
09:47Mike Tomlin what to do.
09:48No, I know.
09:49I don't think, yeah.
09:50But I don't know if he, maybe he goes into it initially and who knows how, how true it
09:56is.
09:56Like, he'll tell us like, oh, he respects Mike Tomlin.
09:59So maybe initially he has some respect for him.
10:02And the offensive coordinator down there, I believe is Arthur Smith.
10:06And I'm not sure if there's been a relationship or maybe there's some respect level there.
10:10But that's what he'll tell us in the beginning.
10:12And you'll believe it with Mike Tomlin because don't you feel like Mike Tomlin could at least
10:16get Aaron Rodgers to kind of buy in for the first four weeks of the season?
10:20But think about it.
10:20Mike Tomlin got annoyed when Juju Smith-Schuster was like doing TikToks in the locker room.
10:25Like, I think that Aaron Rodgers is going to make Mike Tomlin want to pull his hair
10:29out.
10:29Yeah.
10:30I think the other thing though, like, I know that the Steelers front office and ownership
10:34is firmly behind Tomlin and they should be.
10:37Ken is connected in that area.
10:39You know, he talks to me often about how the fans there are tired of Tomlin somehow.
10:44Like, they legitimately, there is a pressure on Tomlin to win that we may not see outside
10:49of Pittsburgh, especially when you hear guys like Derek Cullen.
10:53He needs Rodgers or a good quarterback almost as much as Rodgers needs them right now.
10:59First time I've ever heard Ken and Connected used in the same sentence.
11:02Yeah.
11:03That is a great point though.
11:04When you think of Tomlin down there, don't they, I bet you Steelers fans, and I know
11:09we talked to Derek, the Steelers fans, but they probably view Tomlin as being overrated,
11:15having all this, you know, talent and only being able to win.
11:20Aren't they one of the teams that haven't won a playoff game in some ridiculous amount
11:26of time, but they're all, it seems like they're always in a playoffs.
11:28Yeah, they've been, it's several years.
11:31Right.
11:31So I don't, I bet, well he does.
11:33He always, almost always makes the playoffs.
11:36I mean, right.
11:36They always have winning seasons, but they never get over that hump.
11:41And I think Steelers fans are like, yeah, you got us one Super Bowl.
11:44What have you done for us lately?
11:46The Steelers last playoff win came in the AFC divisional round of the 2016 season before
11:53they came to Foxborough and lost to the Patriots in the AFC title game in the Super Bowl 51
11:58Falcons-Patriots year.
12:00So they have not won a playoff game.
12:01Nine years.
12:02Holy guacamole.
12:04Yeah.
12:04That's a long time.
12:06Well, the Aaron Rodgers watch, I guess, will continue.
12:08We'll continue.
