Despite Celine Dion's Eurovision message, host hasn't given up hope of an appearance
Despite a video message from Celine Dion implying that Switzerland's biggest Eurovision star would not make it to the 2025 contest, the contest's host said she had not given up hope on Wednesday, May 13.
There had been speculation that Canadian Dion, who until last year was Switzerland's most recent winner with 1988's "Ne partez pas sans moi," would make an appearance at the contest in Basel.
But she sent an emotional video message played during the semi final on Tuesday, May 12, where she told fans she would "love nothing more than to be with you," implying that she would not.
But host Sandra Studer, herself a former Eurovision contestant, told a press conference on Wednesday that she still had hope.
"I think what we can say is that we didn't lose hope yet, so there is still some hope that she could come. But honestly, I don't know," she said.

00:00Well, I think what we can say is that we didn't lose hope yet, so there is still some hope that she could come,
00:06but honestly, I don't know. We don't know, and that's not a lie, it's true, we don't know.
00:12I mean, she might decide to come, but we don't know.
00:16We are prepared that she's not here, and, well, what Celine Dion means to Switzerland,
00:22I mean, it's crazy to think that it was Celine Dion winning for Switzerland 37 years ago,
00:31and that was the start of her international career.
00:33I mean, she was a star back in Canada, but that was the start of her international career,
00:40and it's kind of absurd to know this, and we love her, we love her so, so much,
00:46and it would have meant the world to us to have her with us here for ESC.
00:53And that's the beauty of Eurovision Song Contest.
00:56It can put people and things on the map, like, things you would not be aware of otherwise,
01:03and that is what Celine Dion, I think, did for Switzerland as well.
01:07She's actually one of my favorite artists this year.
01:10I know it's controversial, but even though Switzerland won last year, I think their entry this year,
01:15it would be a more deserving winner than last year, even though I loved it.
01:19I think they're going to do the double.
01:20I really do.
01:22And I'm glad that, because I want to come back to Switzerland next year,
01:24because they post it brilliantly.
01:26So, I don't know if we have, like, much of a chance.
01:30It would be very impressive to have her here,
01:34because Celine Dion is, like, such a big thing, also outside of Eurovision.
01:39Like, she's probably one of the, if not the biggest Eurovision star ever.
01:45So, it would be cool to have her in Basel, but I'm not sure how the chances are.
01:49I would love to see her here, and I think she would love to be here.
01:53So, I think if she can pull it off health-wise, she will,
01:56and otherwise we keep her in our thoughts, for sure.
01:58I would love to see her perform in Basel.
02:06I mean, especially, I think, if she would be there,
02:09potentially she would also see my performance,
02:11which would be, like, incredible.
02:12Like, if I could say of Celine Dion on my show.
02:16I don't know if she's going to be here, but I hope so.
02:18I don't know if she's going to be here, but I don't know if she's going to be here.
02:48I don't know if she's going to be here.
