00:00For what purpose does the gentleman from Indiana seek recognition?
00:05Mr. Speaker, I ask Indiana's consent to address the House for one minute.
00:09Without objection, the gentleman is recognized for one minute.
00:12Mr. Speaker, I was privileged to recently join members of the United Steelworkers Local 1010 in Hammond, Indiana, to commemorate Workers Memorial Day.
00:22During the proceedings, I shared how when the steel and manufacturing industries of northwest Indiana were beginning more than a century ago,
00:29the workers labored in long hours in extremely dangerous conditions and were regrettably considered expendable.
00:36But today, through the power of collective bargaining, our workforce has the ability to negotiate with management
00:41and enact workplace protections that say we value labor and we value safety.
00:47As a federal legislator, I am committed to building on the progress
00:50and am very concerned about the proposals to cut back the ability of the Department of Labor to implement federal workplace protections.
00:57As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I will make every effort to ensure that OSHA
01:03and the National Labor Relations Board have the resources and direction they need to ensure
01:09that all workers make it back home to their families and loved ones at the end of the day.
01:14With that, I yield back.
01:17The gentleman yields back.
