House Speaker Mike Johnson says he's working as a "neutral umpire" to get the president's big beautiful bill through. "We're working around the clock to build a consensus to get the 218 votes and deliver on President Trump's America First agenda," said Johnson Wednesday on Capitol Hill.

00:00look at you the bills coming together as you've heard the last three committees are reporting
00:17out today everybody in this room you know gets fixated on a fixated on a few final details about
00:23all this but I think it's important to just state one more time what we're achieving through
00:27reconciliation this will be that one of the most consequential pieces of legislation ever passed
00:31by the United States Congress it is large it is comprehensive and it deals with reconciling
00:35the budget in a way that will be fiscally responsible we're working around the clock
00:45to build that consensus to get the 218 votes and deliver on President Trump's America first agenda
00:50so the American people can really begin to feel relief and as we're working to get this done
00:56House Democrats are working overtime to deceive the American people about this we've discussed it
01:01already this morning but they're not talking about what the bill actually does they're using talking
01:05points that are pretty stale they're not afraid to lie about what's in it and we're not afraid to tell
01:10the truth about what the Democrats are doing I am trying to be the sort of the neutral umpire in the
01:21negotiation and build consensus so I won't come out here and handicap it and tell you numbers and
01:24all that but I will tell you I'm absolutely confident we're going to be able to work out a
01:28compromise that everybody can live with I look at when you have a bill this big with this many
01:32pieces and this minute components and this complex and comprehensive virtually no one's going to be
01:38100% satisfied with every piece of the bill it's just not possible everybody's having to give a little
01:43and they're willing to do that because they know the stakes are so high as as my leaders here have
01:47articulated so we'll get there we're going to get this done deliver for the American people and I
01:51remain as confident today as I was and we started this process now where he's auctioned off access
01:56to the White House for the highest bidder in his meeting look um look I've been a little busy on
02:01reconciliation so I'm not following all the twists and turns of the guitar jet I've certainly heard
02:06about it um uh my understanding is it's not a personal gift to the president it's a gift to the United
02:11States and and and other nations give us gifts all the time but um I'm going to leave it to the
02:16administration they know much more about the details that okay I'm just it's not my lane
02:20Medicaid we're not cutting Medicaid stop buying that
