00:00All four masks are sitting in my office
00:03on some mannequin heads.
00:05And anytime I feel like there's something special coming up
00:08like today, you know, I'll rock it.
00:10Que paso?
00:11What's up GQ?
00:12I'm Ray Mysterio.
00:14And these are 10 essentials that I can't live without.
00:21This is a must.
00:23So I always gotta carry two masks with me.
00:30These masks I don't wrestle in.
00:32These are masks that I do only for presentations,
00:36like right now.
00:37Different type of material compared to the one
00:39that I do wrestle in.
00:41But I always gotta rock at least two,
00:43sometimes even four, depending on how many days
00:45I'm on the road.
00:46My costume designer is from Osaka, Japan.
00:50And he gets down, man.
00:51Big ups to Hayashi.
00:53This one that I'm wearing right now
00:55is a collection of four masks that were made by Hayashi.
01:00An idea that he created inspired by the band KISS.
01:03And in the back of the mask,
01:05the lettering of Ray on the back.
01:07Ever since I found out what Lucha Libre was,
01:10my uncle Ray Mysterio Sr. wore a mask
01:13at the beginning of his career.
01:14And I always wanted to be like him.
01:17At the age of 14, 1989, I wore my first mask.
01:21I wore it all throughout 1998, maybe, 99, which
01:27is when I lost the mask to Scott Hall and Kevin Nash.
01:30When I got signed for the first time with WWE,
01:32I came back with the mask.
01:34Since 2002 to now, I've been rocking the mask ever since.
01:38It's hard to put some of the biggest highlights of my career
01:41in order.
01:42One of the biggest ones is getting my first opportunity
01:45to be on national TV, making that jump over to the US,
01:49and being part of ECW and WCW.
01:51We all eventually want to be part of WWE.
01:54Getting there in 2002 for the first time,
01:56that was like a huge factor in my career.
01:59It's just been a crazy ride, man, for the past 36 years.
02:02It's so crazy that two years ago, I wrestled my own son,
02:07which is insane if you really think about it.
02:09First father and son in the WWE to become tag team champions.
02:14And then two years later, we end up facing each other
02:16at WrestleMania goes Hollywood.
02:19There's just so many highlights in my career
02:20that I've been a blessed man.
02:24My watch, the one that belongs to this little case,
02:27is my Nautilus Patek 5980.
02:31And this was given to me by my wife as a gift.
02:35And I love this watch.
02:37I rock it as much as I can.
02:40Obviously, it's more of a special occasion type of watch.
02:43So I always carry my Rollie as a secondary.
02:48This is the Submariner 41, black and gold.
02:52This is like my daily to-go watch.
02:55Bunch of scratches, been all over the place,
02:57been all over the world.
02:59The one I'm wearing right now is more
03:02for moments like this one.
03:05My perfume cologne, El Perfume.
03:09Baccarat is very distinguished.
03:11It definitely attracts people to ask you,
03:15hey, what are you wearing?
03:16I gotta thank my homie Spiff for hooking me up with this
03:18because he gave me my first bottle.
03:20And then I ended up buying my second one.
03:22One of my favorite colognes, which is discontinued now,
03:26I was hunting it down for so long.
03:29And it was an Australian brand.
03:31It was called Christos.
03:33And it was a purple bottle.
03:34And that was like the Baccarat of back then,
03:39to me at least.
03:40But overall, this scent right here is very special, man.
03:46Oh, yeah.
03:47My wife always gives me shit because she says I pack way too many things.
03:54And I always carry two in case it's dark and I need the lighter tint.
04:00These are some Pradas and these are some Montclair's.
04:03But on top of that, wearing contacts for so many years when I wrestled,
04:08I think that messed up my eyes.
04:10So now I got to carry my reading glasses as well, which I don't mind.
04:14So anything with the smaller lens, oval, preferably, it's me.
04:19Pool time, beach time, I always rock Oakley's.
04:22That's just my thing to go to.
04:24Out on the road, I usually stick with the Prada or the YSL's.
04:28These are my first Montclair's that I picked up.
04:30Actually, my wife gave me these about two weeks ago, and I love these.
04:35I'm a big fan of that light tint that you can wear at night and during the day.
04:42I think this might be the first time I'm rocking glasses with the mask on.
04:48My wedding band, to me, very important,
04:51especially after losing two of them prior to the third one.
04:5529 years of solid foundation.
04:59I'm truly blessed to have this woman by my side, Angie,
05:04who has given everything to help me pursue my career.
05:09Partner, wife, mother.
05:13I hit the lottery with my wife, most definitely.
05:16So funny enough, when you're going through that phase in your life
05:19where you're traveling constantly on the road,
05:21seeing your kids for a couple hours, maybe one day,
05:24you really don't stop and analyze all the hard work your spouse is putting in
05:30to keep that foundation strong and solid.
05:33Now, what you can say, my personal life,
05:37stepping into my house and introducing them into the world of wrestling.
05:42Now, they won't recognize me, but if I'm walking with my wife in a mall or at a restaurant,
05:48they'll see her and then they'll go, that's, and that's got to be Ray.
05:52So they recognize her first and then they recognize me.
05:56And the same thing happens with my daughter.
05:57There's nothing but love from all of us, the Mysterios, to all the fans in the world.
06:03What do you want to do with me?
06:06Usually, I like to carry my own powder protein and just have my shaker.
06:13Usually, I do that as soon as I wake up.
06:15Within the first 30 minutes of waking up, I'm already drinking my first protein shake.
06:19And anywhere between 32 to 40 grams of protein per drink.
06:23I think I started to have more knowledge on what my body needed and what was really helping me out.
06:30Right around 2013, 14, especially for ACL tears.
06:36I had torn mine numerous times at that point, 12, 13 times perhaps.
06:42And it was only my left knee. My right knee was good.
06:45It'd been going through war, my left knee and my right knee was doing all the work.
06:49So I knew eventually my right knee was going to give out on me at some point.
06:52When you start feeling and seeing the results, like there's no way you're going to turn back.
06:58You're moving straight forward.
06:59And that's how I've been feeling for the past two years, two and a half years.
07:03Definitely have to have at least once a day, sometimes even twice.
07:08But I need to have my protein shake.
07:13My wellness kit.
07:14And I have a bunch of goodies in here that I always travel with.
07:17It's a must.
07:18So I have a little, it's like a Theragun.
07:21My left hand, I have severe carpal tunnel.
07:25So my fingers tend to get numb, especially these three right here.
07:29And this helps me kind of just open up the blood flow on the wrist.
07:35So I can have a better circulation overall.
07:38So this is a good little gadget that I like to travel with.
07:41The next thing I have is ached away.
07:44Click this bad boy right here.
07:46It has three pressure points.
07:48One, two and three.
07:50And it also increases the heat temperature.
07:53So I have it at 50 right now.
07:55It kicks off at 40, 45, and 50 is the highest.
07:58This metal blade right here gets hot.
08:01And what I do is I just use it to kind of warm up the muscle.
08:04And wherever I have achiness, I just use it to rub.
08:08And it also helps breaking the scar tissue that I have
08:11from all the previous surgeries that I've had on my left knee.
08:14I use this bad boy every single day.
08:17And the last thing, this little gadget.
08:21And for some reason, I can't remember the name of it right now.
08:24What this does is something very similar to this without the heat.
08:28This angle right here, I use it on my knee.
08:32And I just scrape off all that excessive scar tissue that I've had over the years.
08:39Just put a little bit of oil on there.
08:40I scrape down.
08:41I scrape up and across.
08:43And I just do that for about 10 minutes.
08:45Like all these little things that I do is what has helped me with my longevity over the years.
08:55Everyone has to have one of these at least in their essentials, but either mints
09:02or some gum.
09:03I really don't have a preference on what brand as long as they are mint, minty.
09:09I'm a big fan of the minty.
09:10Especially when you travel, get into a certain city at 6am, 7am.
09:15Brush your teeth right away and throw in a mint and you're good to go.
09:19If I see the person next to me is kind of eyeballing whatever it is that I'm doing,
09:23I'll be courteous enough to say, hey, would you like one?
09:26I'm not trying to pick up a conversation.
09:27I'm just trying to be polite.
09:28I cannot go in the ring without my Red Bull.
09:34A lot of people have their rituals before they go on stage, before they perform, before they do
09:39something.
09:40Before I step in the ring, I always do the same thing.
09:44I always pray for the whole event that night to go well, for no injuries.
09:48And I ask God to bless me throughout my match, me and my opponents and my partners.
09:54Sometimes I'm running late and I got to find a Red Bull inside the arena because I'll forget to
09:59pick one up.
10:00Magically, one always pops up.
10:03Red Bull is one of my most important essentials prior to stepping into the ring.
10:10Here's the phone, the iPhone.
10:12I've broken it a couple of times and I've been without a phone and it feels good to not have a
10:16phone, but it only feels good for a period of 24 hours and then you're craving it again.
10:21So I definitely cannot leave without it.
10:25My phone is cracked right now in the back.
10:27I'm still rocking it though.
10:29It puts me in contact with all my loved ones at any point.
10:32I FaceTime with my wife a lot and with my daughters.
10:34I'm not even a big texter.
10:36I'd rather voice text.
10:39I think the only app that I personally use and it's a game app, it's called Golf Clash.
10:43And I'll be sitting on the plane sometimes, you know, swinging balls, man,
10:47fucking playing Golf Clash.
10:49Maybe you'll see great transition into a semi-pro golf player one day.
10:57Big thanks, GQ.
10:58Thank you for having me.
11:00These were my 10 essentials.
11:04I'm out.
