00:00. . .
00:29And today, for Bizarre Productions' new film, we are going to explore for a few minutes the world of the transsexual.
00:37Much has been discussed about this controversial subject, but very few people have had the opportunity to get actual first-hand information, which we are going to do today.
00:48Sitting beside me here is Mr. Jimmy Michaels, who is an admitted transsexual.
00:52It was Mr. Michaels' express desire to discuss some of the actualities and some of the myths of transsexuality, thereby shedding a new light on a subject that has been kept out of the public's eye for some time.
01:09This interview is completely unrehearsed, and is presented so that you will have a better understanding of the world of the transsexual.
01:18Mr. Michaels, just what is a transsexual?
01:20Uh, transsexual is, uh, one who desires to be the opposite sex, either female to male or male to female.
01:29Can you tell us something about your background, where you were born, something about your parents, your first discovery that you were different?
01:37Well, I was born in Europe because my father was being in the military, and, uh, as a child I was very effeminate, uh, preferring to play with girls' toys rather than with boys,
01:48preferring their company to boys, I didn't go in for the outdoor sports as baseball, football, things like that, I always prefer to stay inside or to read, and the more effeminate qualities, I guess, and my parents noticed it at about the age of six.
02:07Tell me, do you consider yourself a male or female?
02:12Hmm, that's pretty hard to say.
02:14Uh, mentally, uh, female, I think most of the time, the majority of the time, as a female, I would act as a female.
02:25Uh, but then there's a percentage when I'm caught off guard in the depressed state, uh, you don't know which is which, so therefore you try to be more masculine, to please society, to make more of acceptance to oneself.
02:40Are you going to have the complete operation?
02:43Well, that's my intended purpose, to, uh, to change, uh, being a transsexual, that's their purpose or their goal, usually, to have the operation.
02:53Uh, which do you enjoy most, the company of men or women?
02:59Uh, that's difficult to say, because I enjoy women's company, not to the degree of a romantic interest, but as far as sharing interests of doing things together, you know, around a house or common interest in the theater, things like that, then I enjoy, you know, female company.
03:20And, uh, usually women are more apt to accept me than men, but on a bait, on a whole, I enjoy men's company, to the degree that it makes me feel good to be around them.
03:34Have you ever had any, uh, desire for physical relationship with a female?
03:41None whatsoever, never has entered my mind.
03:43Do you consider yourself a homosexual?
03:50Well, if I were a homosexual, that would throw out the complete belief in me being a transsexual, because the homosexual desires men, and they have no desire to be women, or to be treated as women.
04:02A lot of them mock women, it's making fun of, but they have no real desire to be treated, or to actually be women.
04:10I presume you have fallen in love.
04:16Can you tell us about, a little about the first time that that happened?
04:20Uh, if anyone knows what love is, I really don't know.
04:26It was, it may have been just mere infatuation, but, uh, I've gone the, uh,
04:31the road twice, I guess, each time with someone who's completely, basically straight, and each time,
04:39you know, disastrous ending, because it can't be.
04:44Um,
04:47then I take it that most of your friends would be women, but, uh, considering the friends that you have,
04:55what do they think about your desire to be a complete woman?
04:59Most of my friends, you know, accept me. Uh, the majority are straight, are in the so-called
05:04straight world. Uh, a lot of them are trying to help me with different, you know, viewpoints,
05:09different things, you know, to look at both sides, instead of just featuring one rose, and, you know,
05:14each angle they try to help me with.
05:16Do any of them try to talk you out of it?
05:19Uh, I've had a few who have, not out here, back east, a few who were trying to
05:26dissuade me not to do it, that it was no need. Uh, I usually ignore them. Sometimes it would upset me,
05:33and send me into a trauma to my psychiatrist, but, uh, usually I just ignore them.
05:40Would those who had tried to talk you out of it be male or female?
05:43Uh, it's about equal, I guess. Uh, there have been males, and there have been females. Uh,
05:53usually the males who, who try to talk me out of it are completely involved with me as to where,
06:00you know, they, their masculinity is threatened, so therefore they put up this defense,
06:07get rid of the blockage there.
06:09You mentioned the psychiatrist. How has your decision affected you mentally?
06:16Uh, it's quite a, well, people think LSD is a trip, they should try taking hormones.
06:22That is really a trip, because one moment you're full, you know, of vitality, and, you know,
06:28you're sure of what you want, and then the next moment you can be completely depressed, and then you,
06:33you know, you think, why am I doing this? What good is it going to do?
06:38It's like a merry-go-round. It's up and down, you know.
06:43Well, among the people who are not particular friends, uh, acquaintances, how does the, uh,
06:52the straight person of your own age treat you?
06:55The ones that I'm not in contact with, usually the ones who are the hecklers on the street,
07:02are usually, either they say, what is it, or if they know, you know, they can be obscene. Uh,
07:09youngsters have a tendency to be very cruel.
07:11Yeah, even in their school, which I remember in school, they can be very cruel to people who
07:17have less than they do, and I used to sit back and watch this, this barbarism, I guess it would
07:24be called, because it's what it is, you know. They have to pick up one person, they set them out to,
07:29for their little games, their little party games, you know.
07:32Would you encourage anybody else to go through the physical ordeals that you've experienced?
07:37Uh, definitely not. They'd have to be out of their mind, I think, or either, you know, very into it.
07:45How have the, uh, female hormones affected you physically?
07:50Well, it's a lot it does for you. Uh, a lot of women have taken them now, too.
07:55It decreases in a male, the growth of hair on the face, and, uh, the features become softer,
08:03more feminine, the skin texture changes, the growth of the pubic hairs also changes,
08:10uh, hair elsewhere on the body slows down, and what doesn't stop growing turns white eventually,
08:16and the hair on your head grows thicker and faster, also.
08:21What do you intend to do after you've had the complete operation?
08:32That's a good question. Uh, it's like starting all over again, I guess, uh, like being reborn.
08:39Uh, I have intentions probably of, like every girl, I guess, of getting married someday.
08:47Uh, I can't have children, but there's always the possibility of adopting them,
08:52and, you know, living someplace in the suburbians, you know, this type of thing,
08:56which at the moment doesn't appeal to me very much, but, uh, that's who I hope to be.
09:01Well, um, tell me, do you prefer wearing women's clothes?
09:11That's a good question. Uh, women's, par se, you mean dresses, uh,
09:18you know, dresses, bras, panties, silk hose, or nylon hose?
09:23I hate nylons. I hate girdles. I do not like to wear bras. I don't necessarily like to wear dresses,
09:30except now and then I get this mad urge to, uh, you know, do the town, you know, really doll up and
09:37everything, you know, this type of thing. But I really have no craving to flaunt, you know, with the
09:45makeup, which I don't like makeup. Uh, you know, spending two hours in the Beatles song, which is a
09:51complete waste of time to me. To me, femininity or a woman is not expressed in, you know, wearing a
09:59silk dress or nylons or having her hair done twice a week at the nearest beauty salon or, you know,
10:05the whole frilly bit. It's from inside. If you don't have it with inside, no matter what you put on,
10:11you know, on the outside, it's not going to come through. Have you, uh, any opinions on the styles today?
10:17Uh, it's the greatest time to be born for fashion, I think, because it's, you know, they, the women
10:24are slowly getting out of this, with the silk dresses and the nylons and the bras and the girdles,
10:28the whole bit, you know, more of the natural look is coming through, the natural beauty.
10:34Uh, now here's a rather important question. What are you going to do about your name?
10:40Well, that can be changed legally. Yeah, it's no problem about that. I'm going to take my grandmother's
10:46name. Oh, you've already chosen one. Yeah. Oh, well, that's, that saves going through a list of
10:52girls' names for it. Yeah, uh, but, you know, even if my name was still, you know, what it is now,
11:01like, femininity is not in a name either. Mm-hmm. True, true. I think Shakespeare said that once.
11:07Or something goes to it. Yeah. Uh, how do you feel about society today?
11:14Well, like society was 200 years ago, 500 years ago, it's, uh, pretty well screwed up.
11:22I guess we'll all agree with that one.
11:37Changes, there will be changes, new rearrangers,
12:04Changes, waiting for me. Changes, happy exchanges, new interchanges, setting me free.
12:26Gender is a pretender. Change the offender. Let it agree with changes, absolute changes.
12:54Changes, making a being free to be me When I was a lad, I was lonely
13:10Deep inside my soul, deep inside my soul was a need Now my inner self wishes only
13:22To let my other being be free To let my other being be freed
13:34Changes, there will be changes, new rearranges, waiting for me Changes, new rearranges, waiting for me
14:00Changes, setting me free. Changes, happy exchanges, new interchanges, setting me free.
14:18Gender is a pretender. Change the offender. Let it agree with changes, absolute changes,
14:32That it agreed with changes, absolute changes, making a being Free to be me.
