00:00are there patterns and toxic relationships that you see over and over again and the cases that
00:10you take on there are patterns so I've created a taxonomy it's basically four categories and
00:17we see this playbook over and over and over again psychos ass pervs and trolls every single case
00:25that we get is at least one of these but this case has a little bit of all four categories
00:31it's often said that true life is stranger than fiction the facts of this case make that statement
00:36spot-on super strategic and malicious ass Angela deserves what is waiting for her for suffering
00:42and death is the only way acted anonymously troll they were using a VPN to hide their tracks and
00:49then a lot of what happened had this dark sex undercurrent which you know ticks the the perv box
00:57dead babies beheaded children psycho ticks that box they were engaged but now he's moved on months
01:03later somebody has stolen your fairy tale it's the jealous x and when you're fed a story and it takes
01:10root in the media it's very hard to get away from that oh my god to this day I still can't get justice
01:16when they're looking at the same evidence I'm looking at that becomes reality the perception
01:21becomes reality when it comes to love betrayal is the death of a thousand dreams
01:28and the unraveling of countless lies you can spend years picking up the pieces examining them rearranging
01:39them digging through the past to make sense of it all navigating through my personal heartbreak
01:47took me back to my roots as an investigative journalist hi i'm elizabeth chambers with chambers
01:52with chambers outside the los angeles police department it ignited a curiosity inside of me
01:58about love the fracture oh my god inflicts lasting trauma hi i wanted to see if they could ask you
02:04some questions absolutely not and can lead to tragedy and that's when my world ended i feel that
02:10it's part of my calling to meet with the victims the survivors to listen to their stories show how it
02:17can happen to anyone and expose the truth
02:20i'm elizabeth chambers and this is toxic
02:26when a relationship ends a person can become unrecognizable the humiliation loss of power the pain
02:43can all drive someone to their breaking point
02:46sometimes when that mask comes off things can escalate beyond just heartbreak
02:52showing there's no limit to what some people will do for revenge
02:56there's so much media coverage of this case why do you think people are so interested in it
03:09any crime of passion is going to be is going to attract the media because that becomes relatable
03:15to people everybody's had an argument with a significant other so ian and angela had a whirlwind
03:21romance can you tell me how they met and how their relationship developed so quickly ian and angela seem
03:26like like-minded kindred spirits they met online in january of 2016
03:33they both in a very kind of orange county way they love the outdoors they're into health
03:39they were married inside of a month which uh if you think about it is crazy but it does happen
03:46sometimes they're taken with each other they had a great place to live he had a thriving career
03:53a respected u.s marshal they're newlyweds they're madly in love they really have everything you could want
04:00and then all of a sudden
04:02out of the blue angela begins receiving these emails four months into the marriage
04:12beyond just threatening
04:16they're foreboding they're um they really seem to be predicting a very dark future for angela
04:26some of the the emails would show pictures of dead women who'd been you know brutally um injured and
04:40and um you know decapitated and it was all very very confusing
04:45ian's automatic reaction is that the emails were coming from his ex michelle
04:58michelle and ian had not been broken up long at all it was a very fresh thing he had gone ahead and
05:03gotten married very quickly so he assumed she was jealous he assumed because ian and angela were living
05:09in a condominium that michelle and ian had actually purchased together that maybe she felt that
05:16somebody had moved in kind of stolen her dream living in her castle with her prince it's every morning
05:21it's every night but she wants me to it's only going to hear where's michelle yeah hadley uh lilis is
05:27her demon cult fanatical identity we're asking you guys is there a way to put this girl in cuffs tonight
05:34maybe that'll get through to work although i get the feeling it might not so what does angela do in
05:39response to the emails angela does what i think most people would do at that point she goes to
05:44the anaheim police department and files for a restraining order which she gets very readily
05:51after angela files and gets the restraining order the emails uh not only do they not stop but they
05:57escalate and they become more threatening more foreboding and more perverse
06:06hello she calls anaheim police department they come in puts out the puzzle pieces of what's been going
06:13on so what's going on okay um let me explain okay so my name is ian uh i'm a u.s marshal sorry this is
06:26angela um you guys have been here a whole boat regarding the same girl regarding the same bitch i'm
06:33sorry i'm gonna curse she sent an email with a craigless ad in it for a guy that wants to do a rape
06:40like a fantasy rape so from her email because the i know i'm sorry i'm sorry here don't look out at
06:54we have like maybe over 60 emails from her since may that are all the same angela's getting what
07:00would be any woman's worst nightmare right dozens of emails from her husband's crazy ex detailing horrific
07:07threats against her life but then she gets a link to a craigslist post that post is in the section of
07:13craigslist where you can solicit sex it's somebody pretending to be angela posting that she wants
07:20someone to come to her house and rape her she says hi there i've been dying to have a rape fantasy while
07:27walking my dog following me to the door and forcing me to the condo forcing me not to screen dragging me
07:31upstairs and taking me from behind on the bed if you can fulfill it tonight please let me know i am 30
07:36tall gorgeous and ready my addresses this address he's coming here to do some great fantasy that
07:43she set up threatening this okay so how do we know that she set it up so ann and angela are convinced
07:50that it's ann's ex michelle pretending to be angela posting on craigslist that she wants somebody to
07:56come to her home address break in and rape her but they don't necessarily have enough proof for the
08:04cops to come that night to arrest her because the emails in the craigslist post are from different
08:09fake or anonymous accounts this ex-girlfriend of mine has it out for this woman because she
08:16and hates the fact that i'm not with her anymore stupid as it may sound that's what's happening and
08:22she set this up no one else set this up at what point is this girl put in handcuffs anaheim detectives
08:31spend weeks reviewing all of these threats trying to build a case and throughout all of this the
08:36harassment continues the problem occurs every time we think it's going to stop and every time we
08:43think like our guard goes down a little if she won that she started sending we lost a child in april
08:51this whole nightmare has been orchestrated arranged at the hands of his former girlfriend this is
09:13her right here and she lived here yeah then she i found out she cheated on me with like six or seven
09:18dues from tinder no problem i told her you're cheating on me you need to make a decision what
09:22you want to do with this relationship and i had leslie uh my friend here just in case as a witness and
09:27she packed up and she left so obviously you know make sure your doors are locked and all that
09:35then there's a fateful night where it goes beyond just email
09:40a man shows up at the home answering the rape fantasy pregs list posts and brutally attacks angela
09:48grabs her by the hair slams her up against the wall beats her and in her head she must have been
09:55thinking this is just the fruition of those emails this is all of that coming true within the craigslist
10:02community there's a subculture of people you'll get an address and you will show up there with the
10:08expectation that somebody there wants to take part in a rape fantasy and it means that if you've had
10:13enough and you say no well it's a rape fantasy so that really doesn't matter there are no rules
10:18so it's the darkest of the dark it's the most evil of the most evil
10:26but then somehow she manages to fend this guy off he flees
10:34with this growing mountain of circumstantial evidence and the attack
10:38police finally decide okay it's time to make an arrest and on june 24th michelle hadley is
10:43finally taken into custody the emails and threats immediately stop michelle faced multiple felony
10:52counts including attempted forcible rape and stalking facing life in prison if convicted on all counts
11:01it felt like a happy ending for ian and angela right so it was very cut and dry there was no question
11:07and and the police department moved very very swiftly this was it the case was over slam dunk
11:13was michelle because i mean who else would it have been
11:19that was the story then that michelle was the worst kind of criminal imaginable and we were fed that
11:26script for months and then all of a sudden it became obvious that we had all been asking the wrong
11:33questions
11:36it's the ultimate plot twist it stops on a dime and the entire thing flips around
11:45hi michelle hi
11:48talk to me about the day you were first served with the restraining order so i'm at home
11:58all of a sudden there are police at the door
12:04so i see leslie carlson there she is a u.s marshal and a good friend of my ex-boyfriend
12:12ian leslie serves a restraining order on me and it didn't have much information in it but it did
12:19have angela's name and that they were married and i see them basically saying that i'm sending
12:27harassing emails to her i don't know who this woman is i don't even have her email address
12:33a few days later i actually called anaheim police department and i left three different voicemail
12:39messages for them i said look they're saying i sent these emails i didn't please call me i want
12:43someone to investigate this the next thing that happens it's a friday night i just remember pulling
12:53up on the cul-de-sac and these lights turn on and a detective slaps his badge on my door and shines a
13:01light in so i immediately feel relief because i'm thinking okay they're here to investigate you know
13:07hallelujah like yes like i've been waiting for someone to come and talk to me so i hop out of
13:13the car and he says we have a warrant for your devices and i'm thinking great they'll get my
13:18devices all of them they'll i'll give them my passcodes they'll see that i haven't done anything
13:24but he basically says he's going to place me under arrest under arrest like i don't understand like i
13:31didn't violate the restraining order i'm trying to wrap my brain around this situation and they
13:37processed me that night and put me in a jail cell and then i found out that angela got attacked
13:49at this point i'm shaking because i'm starting to realize that this is on a different level than i
13:57initially thought when the jail cell that night i called my parents and my dad said they've set the
14:05bail really high they had said it at a million dollars he gave me the choice he said we can use
14:12that money to hire a really good attorney and prove your innocence but you know that means you're gonna
14:17have to stay in there for a while and i told him okay let's get the attorney i told him i can handle it
14:33i had no idea what it was gonna be like either i mean i just i didn't know what to expect but i just
14:38knew that they were charging me with life and so at this point it was like well my only chance is to
14:49get an attorney and get out of here and prove that i'm innocent what was going through your head
14:55i was completely bewildered and just you know you're up all night because you're upset you're confused
15:00how am i in here i didn't do anything wrong and i knew without a shadow of a doubt
15:05who the mastermind was behind it i met ian online in october of 2013. on the first date he told me
15:20that he was a u.s marshal of course immediately i'm thinking oh okay great these are guys who want to
15:27help people like they want to serve their country they want to serve other people so i'm in my head
15:33already checking off these boxes that i have of like this is someone who you know is that stable
15:38kind of all-american boy basically after that the relationship really sped up it started to get
15:47you know physical very quickly um we were spending a lot of time together we met in october of 2013
15:54and less than six months later we moved in together we dated a little over a year and then all of a
16:01sudden he's proposing to me so i was very surprised pretty shortly after we got engaged one day we're
16:10driving through downtown anaheim and there were these new construction condos and he says okay let's
16:16stop and like go look at these he wanted to buy one so we you know signed the paperwork to go on the
16:23mortgage together and he told me he had no money to put towards the down payment so i put the entire
16:29deposit down it was about fourteen thousand dollars how did that affect your relationship
16:34you're not moving in together you're engaged so it was an interesting time because there was this
16:38dynamic where there was this excitement also mixed with this dread and fear and worry because there
16:44were so many issues in the relationship what were those issues what did you guys fight about
16:49so he was very controlling he decided where things went what type of furniture that we had
16:54he would tell me what to wear he wanted me to have a belly button ring he wanted me to get fake nails
16:59there was even one time where he sort of floated the idea of getting a boob job like i mean there's
17:02just this element of he was building the body that he wanted at any point did you consider leaving him
17:10there was one time after we had moved into the condo
17:13i remember i was starting to go get my stuff from the master bedroom and he followed me up and i
17:23went to get my purse and i went to go around him to leave and he grabbed me and he pushed me down on the
17:30bed i just remember clawing on the bed and screaming and he's pulling me at my ankles back and i just
17:42remember feeling horrified because he had guns all over the apartment he had a shotgun under his bed
17:47he had guns in the closet i was completely outmatched in this situation like i didn't think i could get
17:54out of that all i remember was breaking down and sobbing and he threatened to call the police on me
18:03the fear is hard to describe to people who haven't had to exit one of these relationships with someone
18:09who has guns and has the ability to track people you're like well i don't know if i can battle
18:16someone who is in law enforcement you feel like you're stuck you know
18:21right around the time it started to get really difficult we went out one night and he spent the
18:27entire night staring at this girl to the point i was like hey i'm right here like and i remember
18:33calling him out on it and just saying like this feels so disrespectful and he told me
18:38you're not a special snowflake and i always sort of had this belief value we're all unique little
18:45individual people and we deserve to be valued and cherished and so something about this just
18:49cut right to the core of my belief system
18:54well the next day he had his friend leslie crawls in there and i remember just thinking to myself
19:01this is it this is the moment i have to leave
19:03i knew he wouldn't do anything while she was there like he wouldn't do anything dramatic
19:08i had a tiny little jetta i packed it full of everything i could fit in there and i got in my car
19:13and that was it and i left
19:20after michelle moved back in with her parents she found herself in a dispute with ian over their condo
19:26ian refused to move out or sell the condo michelle then had to hire attorneys to help negotiate an
19:32agreement between her and ian they finally agreed that ian could stay in the condo if he paid the
19:38mortgage within six months if he failed to do so a backup clause would be enacted and he would have
19:43to sell the condo immediately and they would split the profits after the engagement was broken off
19:49how did ian treat you he would keep going back and forth between making sure i knew he intended to
19:54stay in the condo he intended to keep the condo but then also trying to get me back wanting me to come
19:59back so you know i didn't feel completely um free and there were always like little hidden threats
20:06like he would tell me oh i just cancelled your car insurance so you better watch out while you're on
20:11the road so you don't get pulled over and of course i'm thinking well he's law enforcement he's
20:14probably gonna have someone pull me over were you still afraid at this point so i think for the first
20:20few months i was but then you know when you don't hear from them you think okay they've moved on
20:27but then the six months had come and gone on the mortgage assumption process and once i make it
20:34known that i want to enforce the settlement agreement which says that we just sell the condo in that case
20:39all of a sudden someone started sending emails to angela
20:57what is it like as a father to see your daughter in jail oh it's disturbing
21:01did you ever for a moment think that your daughter was capable of this
21:08capable of it absolutely but she would never do it
21:18your daughter is sitting in jail you are trying to piece this together well i knew she didn't do it
21:24so we stepped back and figured out what we're going to do here with the anaheim police department and i said
21:29what evidence could you possibly have that she did this the detective says we saw activity on
21:36michelle's email account in her inbox i said that's not evidence that michelle sent emails michael that's
21:42in her inbox and he also states all these men were showing up responding to all the craigslist rape
21:49fantasy ads but there are 22 cameras on the condominium they're everywhere the police report states that
21:55nobody was seen coming or going they had no proof that somebody showed up so the question always
22:02came up is if nobody's seen coming or going then why is somebody in jail at that point you decided that
22:09you had to take this investigation completely into your own hands oh yeah basically yeah
22:13because you don't know to what extent somebody has been able to frame your daughter up
22:19so this would be ian's tro tro stands for temporary restraining order on july 15th the day after
22:31michelle's arrested he went down to the court and filed a tro against her i have no idea why he did it
22:37but he put a lot of evidence that implicated him all this email emails from lo this truth which is the
22:45account that was responding to all the craigslist rape fantasy ads and also created three rape fantasy
22:53ads to get responders to come to the condo so this comes through and you can see right here that's the
23:01ip address it tells you what device she's actually using right and that's angela connell's macbook pro
23:08oh my god and there's the ip of the condominium wow crystal clear so somebody's at the condo sending
23:17these right we don't know who but we know somebody using her account angela could easily send this but
23:26you will notice this information here you know this was ian's doing i created him and he wants only me
23:33me right here signed michi did he ever did she even go by that name yes that's her nickname michi
23:40then who would know that right angela no yeah exactly so you see it's not complicated information
23:46right the police department had access to all of this in plain sight and that's what is so infuriating
23:51is that it's just a plethora of just garbage that they had it all went back to them every last bit of
23:58it has the footprint of ian all over it everything does and so you know my first thing was i got in
24:05touch with the anaheim police department and they said it's not a new uh police department issue that's
24:11a u.s marshal issue so i called up the u.s marshal service in downtown l.a and they say well that's
24:17not a u.s martian's issue they just blew it off what was unusual about this case was that the police
24:26department the anaheim pd had this couple's back and like they just accepted as evidence all these
24:35emails ian and angela just forwarded they didn't do any diligence i mean even when they did subpoena
24:40the platforms they didn't look at the results which in in this case would have shown that all the the
24:46emails and stuff originated from ian and angela's home it was incredibly frustrating to say the very
24:53least that nobody was listening i can tell you that i was boiling michelle's in jail and he's running
24:59loose and thinking that to this day i still can't get justice when they're looking at the same evidence
25:06i'm looking at so you've now been in jail tell me what that was like um you're treated like an
25:16animal you know like i mean they're i mean basically the attitude was just you can just
25:22you know sit in urine and be sick we don't care the deputy said well because of the crime that you're
25:29charged for you're going to be in a high security section there you don't see outside you don't see
25:36the sunlight and so very quickly you lose track of what day it is did you fear for your life oh for
25:42sure i mean because i looked so different and i sort of stood out the more violent you know um criminals
25:49that were on the upper level they thought i was a snitch and so they would harass me and accuse me of
25:55being a snitch and so every time the deputies transported me i was scared to death that one of
26:01them would attack me i was thinking they're gonna eat me alive you know i scream wholesome goody two
26:10shoes they're gonna eat me alive
26:16your daughter's sitting in jail you are trying to piece this together and at the same time there's a
26:21huge media storm happening all around you what was that like for you it we saw the effects of it right
26:28away okay with our business i mean it was like who wants to do business with you know the craziest
26:33woman in the world right i mean her face was plastered everywhere and everybody was calling her the
26:37crazy ex right and she did get the award for the uh craziest person in orange county for that year
26:42so i didn't insult to injury yeah
26:48it felt like no matter what you showed them as evidence that i wasn't doing it they didn't care
26:54when you were in jail did you think you were going to be there forever yeah because it had
27:02already been almost three months so i was losing hope towards the end i thought i was going to be
27:06there forever good morning and thank you all for coming i'm here to announce the filing of a felony
27:16complaint against angela marie diaz good morning and thank you all for coming
27:27i'm here to announce the filing of a felony complaint against angela marie diaz by the orange
27:32county district attorney's office the charges include two counts of kidnapping two counts of
27:37false imprisonment perjury and 21 misdemeanor accounts of filing false police reports as michelle
27:44her dad and her entire legal team are trying to convince anaheim police department that ian is
27:49behind all of this they learned that out of nowhere ian has walked into apd to report that
27:55angela is actually the one behind the entire thing diaz now stands accused of pretending to be
28:02miss hadley and sending the emails and rape fantasy solicitations to herself in order to frame
28:07miss hadley during the course of the investigation we uncovered other deceptions including fake
28:12cervical cancer pretending to be an attorney forging doctor's notes faking a pregnancy and impersonating
28:19another one of john doe's ex-girlfriends over email ian said that they were pregnant with twins
28:28and they are both really excited about it ian goes and buys a minivan they get car seats and then
28:36he realizes that she was faking it that she had bought like a fake pregnancy test off of etsy that
28:42she brought fake sonograms angela would go to work but really was didn't have a job and was like
28:50bouncing checks i think she's a professional grifter i think there are people that they survive by cheating
28:56people that's what they do for the anaheim pd and for the d8 the blame shifted toward angela these two
29:04women michelle hadley and angela diaz are connected through a common man for the time being we're
29:09going to identify that man as john doe our joint investigation eventually determined that the true
29:14origins of these emails they originated from the condo shared by john doe and diaz from diaz's cell phone
29:20and from diaz's father's home in arizona the evidence we currently have does not show involvement by
29:25john doe you are now exonerated of charges how did that feel angela was arrested but they hadn't
29:41arrested ian so it was bittersweet on the one hand it was what i had been waiting for because it meant
29:48i could go back to school i could try to get a job again i could try to start living normally
29:53but there was this other side of it where they were clearly trying to cover up ian's involvement
30:04and that was um it made me angry
30:12you don't come out of 88 days in jail the same person that you went in i mean i feel like i had
30:19nothing to lose after that i knew obviously from the get-go who had done this you were in jail because
30:25of one person and one person only ian created his own worst nightmare because he took someone who was
30:33just this quiet people-pleasing empath and he basically turned her into someone who was angry
30:40and ready and ready to fight when i knew that i was getting out of jail all i could think was
30:46let's do this you're hearing for the first time from the woman at the center of a story that
30:51captivated the country michelle hadley michelle hadley michelle hadley is sharing her story
30:55won't be silent speaking out we talked to people in the media about the case you certainly think
31:00he's involved at this point oh i do absolutely i'd angela could not have written those emails unless
31:06she had the information from from ian and i would not back down because i already knew he was involved
31:16there was a level of corruption to what happened to me and it really centered around the failure of
31:22law enforcement to do any sort of investigation when the da's office held that press conference
31:31they very specifically told my attorney we don't want michelle to come to the press conference
31:36they did a whole powerpoint where they presented this as a love triangle and then angela was the
31:42jealous wife trying to get back at me and they actually put ian up on this powerpoint as the john
31:47doe and when i saw that i just remember thinking wow what a story they have concocted to hide the fact
31:57that they had lots of evidence that he was doing it so we were all pressing the da's office anaheim pd
32:04to do something about it but then in the end anaheim pd decided not to press charges against ian
32:16there is this idea that police officers will protect one another at any cost the cops and
32:22the detectives in anaheim were protecting this federal marshal and it was just not going to be
32:27the case from their perspective that anybody but the federal marshal was was the good guy in the
32:31story at this point the apd's behavior is absolutely egregious all you have to do is watch that initial
32:38body camera footage and you can see ian's lies are laid out right there clear as day he's saying that
32:45she cheated on him she cheated on me with like six or seven dudes from tinder but she didn't he's the one who
32:50cheated on her ian said michelle showed up at her condo she's doctor here well there are cameras
32:56everywhere and not a single piece of evidence or proof showing that she did that you see him on the
33:02video acting like he's the one trying to get her off the mortgage we're in the middle of the refi right
33:07now to get her name completely off the mortgage when in reality michelle was the one fighting to get
33:12ian to pay his share and through all of it he was able to use his position of power and his connections
33:17and law enforcement who served him a friend of mine in westland michelle and her dad have all of
33:24the evidence showing that ian is guilty so i cannot understand why anaheim police department did not
33:29pursue ian so i set up an interview with our former public information officer to try to get some answers
33:42he's not coming what you're joking you're joking
33:47well unfortunately i got a call asking that i not participate in the interview all caps sorry
33:52oh my god and he didn't think it was a good idea to explain this because anaheim is telling them
34:00we don't want you to do it he's not he wants to but they're not letting him i guess that the thing
34:05that's the thing that's upsetting is that's proving the point that there's some sort of like brotherhood
34:10yeah like we don't want you to do it so you shouldn't do it even that you can do it
34:20on october 17 2017 angela diaz pleaded guilty she was immediately sentenced to five years in prison
34:29i did not show up to her sentencing hearing and read a victim statement because it felt like a big
34:34sham to me because i knew who the mastermind was behind it and then as the years kind of ticked on
34:42i remember thinking well if they haven't already done it they're probably never going to do it
34:47so i was losing hope and you hear so many stories where the victim doesn't really get any justice
34:54but then who is harry lidsky and how is he involved in this case it is very rare to hear these words
35:06come out of my mouth because i don't use this for a lot of people in law enforcement at all anymore
35:12but i would say he's a hero ian diaz he was i think the mastermind ian misdirected the anaheim
35:21police department i think he sent them down a path all the while he was covering his tracks and i
35:27think setting angela up to take the fall and and it worked the orange county da's office was able to
35:36uncover angela's involvement but not ian's ian was still out there with his gun and his badge
35:41angela's role in it was obvious ian's role was a bit harder to uncover but ian made a mistake
35:51we found some critical evidence when looking through angela's hotmail account there's a few
35:57dozen emails that purported to come from angie actually traced back to a doj issued ip address
36:05we were able to trace that further back to ian's work phone to his us marshal's phone he never gave
36:11anybody the password of that nobody looked at his work phone but him but also the craigslist
36:16piece was was big i mean he lied about it he explained his craigslist use as minimalist i think
36:23he said he remembered selling a bike once uh it turns out i think somebody described him as the king of
36:29craigslist not only was he using it but he was using the personals he was using it for sexual encounters
36:37and had this extreme fetish for cuckolding which basically is somebody who gets off on
36:43watching their partner have sex with somebody else and even though michelle did not share those kinks
36:50during their relationship ian got like a stranger off of craigslist to come over and have sex with her
36:55ian you set up essentially a scheduled rape in your own home how did that come about so the first
37:03time he asked me to do this he told me he um had this fantasy of me having sex with another man and i
37:12was very clear in my communication i said you know that's not something i would ever be interested in
37:17doing but he kept pressuring so it felt like no matter how many times i said no he kept pushing pushing
37:22i eventually broke down and i said look i'll do it once i have to be on something because i can't go
37:29through with it if i'm you know like sober did he watch or did he record it he was in a separate room
37:34but he was recording and so i was on you know nyquil and also three shots of liquor so i don't even have
37:43a really clear recollection of it but i remember afterwards him saying you know you better get
37:52tested because his condom fell off and i just remember thinking first of all i didn't even
37:57want to do this and like you put me at risk for something that i didn't even want to do like i told
38:02you no so many times and i had been put into this situation that was the complete and utter opposite
38:10of who i was at my core my identity had basically just been obliterated at this point i started
38:17sobbing uncontrollably and all he said was nobody put a gun to your head how did it make you feel
38:23completely violated that for me is one of the darkest memories of my life it makes you feel so
38:30worthless because like my body was just an object for him to do with what he wanted
38:35michelle's relationship with ian involved the use of craigslist for sex so in an extensive history
38:43of using in all the ways that manifested themselves in the case against michelle that was that was huge
38:50for us and for one of the ads to come and engage in a rape fantasy with angie craigslist required a user
39:00to authenticate that they were doing this voluntarily consensually and ian used his phone number craigslist
39:09sent him a text that post was approved by ian on his cell phone he told the anahead police department
39:19that he never clicked it but craigslist confirmed that he did the next morning after he realized the
39:25mistake he made he went and got a new phone number proving that for us was uh was a big domino tip
39:31in the case against ian do you think he was concerned at this time i don't i don't know if he was he
39:36might have thought after so much time that that he was out of the woods he seemed surprised when we
39:42arrested him ian was finally arrested but michelle had to wait two more years for the case to go to
39:52trial even behind bars ian stuck to his story that angela the real crazy ex was the one behind the
39:58entire scheme but thankfully the jury didn't buy it he was convicted of conspiracy to commit cyber
40:07stalking cyber stalking obstruction perjury he was sentenced to 121 months in federal prison we always
40:14wanted justice for michelle we always wanted ian to face the justice he deserved um and we never
40:21stopped it just took a long time how did it make you feel at that time and i'm glad i didn't give up
40:34that's a lot of your life to be fighting and dealing with something like this you know but
40:41it's very healing to get that justice i mean i could start moving on with my life
40:46i know that not every victim gets that but i i wish we lived in a world where more did because
40:54to finally have that moment where the world is saying yes we see
40:58it was a really powerful moment yeah
41:11my girlfriend i think overdosed i'm trying to resensitate her right now he's a doctor i'm supposed
41:16to trust him he couldn't be poisoning my daughter can he i cannot think of anything worse than losing my
41:22children i knew i was going to prove that he murdered my sister
