Texas Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young joined the GBAG Nation to talk about the improvements he's seen with the team's offense since hiring Bret Boone, if Corey Seager needs an IL stint after his latest injury and if he could play first base in the future, why they can't take the terrible Colorado Rockies for granted, and more.

00:00can you fill us in on what you know and and and maybe about with uh with cory's hamstring and
00:20stuff like that what you can tell us about that yeah so we're still trying to get to the bottom
00:25of it um cory's undergoing some testing this afternoon and uh hopefully later today we'll
00:30have the results of those tests it's nothing that we're too concerned about in terms of this
00:34injury being a long-term injury what we are concerned about is just making sure we get this
00:39right um we obviously we we experienced this a couple weeks ago we put him on the il uh he came
00:45back right at the 10-day mark uh played several games and played well um but by you know by the
00:51weekend he was feeling it again and so we can't have this linger we've got to knock this out we've
00:57got to make sure that cory's in a good spot physically and uh and that we're going to avoid
01:00these things moving forward so we're doing some undergoing some testing this week uh this this
01:05afternoon i hope to have the answers later today and at that point we'll make a decision on what's
01:10next for cory whether he needs more extended time or whether this is going to be a few days
01:14um you know with that in mind i think back to 2023 and really a stretch that we had um the first
01:23half of the season where we went in a 60 game stretch we went 40 and 20 and a big portion of that
01:29stretch um was without cory and i think this is a great opportunity for this team to come together
01:36all winning teams lose star players at some point you know you hope those absences aren't too long
01:42but all teams lose good players at some point and they find a way to get the job done and i believe
01:48this team is talented enough to win um without cory in the lineup and so our expectation is that
01:54these guys continue to pull for one another that they continue to play team baseball and they continue
01:58to step up uh when cory is not in the lineup just like we saw on sunday so i have full confidence in the
02:04group we have and i think this is a great opportunity for us as a club to come together if indeed we do have
02:10to play some games here without cory it's chris young here with you on the fan rangers president
02:15of baseball operations is it time to look at considering the uh position or the the day-to-day
02:22at this stage of seager's career like the first base or dh to have him playing short less keep him
02:28healthier angle is there is there any consideration of that well i don't think playing shortstop has
02:34specifically contributed to his injuries i mean i think these are something that is uh you know if i
02:39can't tell you if he was playing left field or third base or first base that these injuries would
02:43be any more um it would be happening less frequently so i think that really what we need to get to the
02:49bottom of is what is the root cause of the injury and at that point we can decide um you know what's
02:54best but in terms of him moving off shortstop that is not a conversation we're having um you know if
02:59we had information that suggested that is the the main cause then we could obviously you know talk
03:05about what the best way to keep cory on the field is but that's not that's not a discussion we're
03:09having and i don't believe that is the cause
03:11you
