00:00It's a bad thing.
00:27Happy Halloween!
00:30The chill of Halloween is in the air.
00:35The bats are flying.
00:37Does he look like a chihuahua?
00:38The spiders are crawling, and the jack-o'-lanterns are standing guard.
00:42Please don't drill on this pumpkin right now.
00:45Ah! Ah!
00:47Careful.
00:48The time is right for tricks and treats.
00:51I want to show you a bloody brain.
00:53Pour this over your shrimp.
00:55Release that little air pocket.
00:57You know, it's hard getting a brain out of a skull.
00:59You know what it is?
01:00I'm going to eat the temporal lobe.
01:01I'm going for the abdulangada.
01:02Frightfully fun entertaining.
01:04Spoon, a ghostly shape.
01:08Very cute little ghosts.
01:11We have a sleeping kid over there.
01:12Look at him.
01:13Ooh!
01:14Let the wild rumpus start!
01:16Take it up here.
01:17This is a really good one.
01:18I'm going to give you my gun.
01:19Take your time in there.
01:20What do you think?
01:21I don't know.
01:22They feel weird.
01:23What is it?
01:24I have no idea.
01:25Those are live, meal-y words.
01:26What are you going to think?
01:27What are you going to think?
01:28What are you-
01:29Join me, Martha Stewart and be inspired by a host of devilishly good and bad things.
01:32I don't know, they feel weird.
01:34What is it? I have no idea.
01:36Those are live mealy worms.
01:38What are you going to say?
01:40What are you going to say?
01:42Join me, Martha Stewart, and be inspired by a host of devilishly good and bad things.
01:54The magic tablets.
01:56Yes, go ahead, add a few of those.
01:58And see if you can figure out what these magic tablets are.
02:02This is the one time of year that you can take that cap off your tooth and smile.
02:06Well, with the right tools and a great imagination, there are thousands of possibilities.
02:11Do you know what we call this?
02:13Rest in peace.
02:15All perfect for my favorite holiday.
02:17All Hallows' Eve.
02:19Happy Halloween.
02:21So we're going to make the stuffed apple.
02:23We are going to make stuffed apple.
02:24We make a mixture of raisins, a half a cup of raisins, a quarter of a cup of cognac.
02:29Cognac, all right.
02:30A zest of two oranges.
02:31And you use the zest, you use this.
02:32That's a lot of zest.
02:33Yes, it is, but it makes it very flavorful.
02:35Yeah.
02:36And the juice of two oranges.
02:37All right.
02:38And the zest of one lemon.
02:39And so you know how to zest, right?
02:41Yes, I do.
02:42You use this little great grater.
02:43Not too much, just little so you don't get the pith, just the zest.
02:46That's right.
02:47Just zest.
02:48Okay.
02:49Speaking of Twitter, Martha hosted an incredibly beautiful wedding for her nephew in the springtime.
02:54Oh, remember.
02:55Yes.
02:56For Chris, who we all love, right?
02:57Yes.
02:58And maybe they'll still store a picture of Chris, because you want to see him.
03:00He's very handsome, right?
03:01Oh, so handsome.
03:02And his partner.
03:03And they were shooting it for the magazine.
03:04And in advance of the wedding, about a week in advance, everybody who was invited gets a lovely email from Martha.
03:11Martha, no high heels, because we just sodded, right?
03:14Please, if you're going to wear a color, can it be a pastel or beige?
03:18No, it wasn't.
03:19We did not just sod.
03:20Wait a second.
03:21I would never sod just for a wedding.
03:23Then she goes, and no social media, no network, no Twitter, no Facebook.
03:28And then, of course, I get to the wedding, and there's Martha, like, tweeting photographs of everything.
03:33And I said, Martha.
03:34And she said, oh, right, I forgot.
03:36Because they wanted an exclusive for the magazine.
03:39No, I wanted an exclusive for my Twitter.
03:41Well, that's what I'm saying.
03:42Oh, right, for her Twitter.
03:43That's why I have 2.4 million followers.
03:45Exactly.
03:46You see?
03:47Oh, lovely.
03:48Okay, sorry, sorry.
03:49So, look, to the zest that sat overnight in the refrigerator.
03:52That did.
03:53I am adding chopped walnuts, chopped pistachios, chopped pecans.
03:58Pecans.
03:59A half a cup of light brown sugar.
04:01This is the filling.
04:02How many apples does that make?
04:03This is the filling.
04:04Ish.
04:05A dozen?
04:06No, it's going to make like a dozen.
04:07Okay, all right.
04:08A pinch of ground cinnamon, pinch of ground mace.
04:13Because for a minute when I saw that, I said, oh, Weight Watchers or something, or low-calorie.
04:17It is.
04:18It is.
04:19And about, you know.
04:20No, no.
04:21That's just a little filling.
04:22Okay.
04:23So here, this is how you get the corer out.
04:24Okay.
04:25You have to corer it first.
04:26Yeah.
04:27Do you have a corer?
04:28Well, I have a baller, not a corer.
04:29Oh, okay.
04:30I can do it by hand.
04:31No, you can use a ball.
04:32You can use that.
04:33All right.
04:34I usually use the apple corer.
04:35Like that?
04:36All the way down.
04:37You have to get the corer out.
04:38All right.
04:39What do I need, you know, with a baller?
04:40I can't do it with a baller, darling.
04:41Yes, you can.
04:42I need this.
04:43Okay, wait a minute.
04:44Now look.
04:45Yes, you can.
04:46You don't have to have that.
04:47Okay.
04:48Okay, there we go.
04:49So that you have a flat base.
04:50A base.
04:51A flat base.
04:52Okay.
04:53Love it.
04:54Yeah, you know.
04:55You could do a cooking show.
04:56And then you do-
04:57Is it all clean and nice?
04:58Yes, cut off the top a little bit like that.
04:59Okay, cut the top.
05:00Oh, okay.
05:01Fine.
05:02And if you want to make it a little broader so that-
05:03Right, so you get in with the-
05:04So you can put more filling.
05:05Got it.
05:06Or you could use a paring knife.
05:07That's how you use up the filling.
05:08Okay.
05:09Got it.
05:10Okay?
05:11Yes.
05:12And then you can fill with a spoon.
05:13All right.
05:14Fill each apple.
05:15Fill it up?
05:16Well, and up to the top.
05:17Okay.
05:18I'm going to make the creme anglaise, which makes that beautiful, beautiful-
05:21And it doesn't matter if it drips through?
05:23Well, it won't.
05:24No, it doesn't.
05:25Okay.
05:26It's going to only be very flavorful.
05:27Okay.
05:28So here we have one and a quarter cups of milk and three quarters of a cup of heavy cream.
05:32Because you're making the creme anglaise?
05:33We're going to temper-
05:34All right.
05:35Yes, temper the egg yolks.
05:37Right.
05:38With that.
05:40And you want to-
05:41You know what tempering is?
05:42Yes, I do.
05:43Oh, good.
05:44The best thing I make is ice cream, and I make-
05:46I like ice cream with eggs in it, so I do that a lot.
05:48Oh, yes.
05:49And if you get it wrong, you get scrambled eggs, so be careful.
05:51There's a pinch of salt.
05:52You know.
05:53You know it's-
05:54Oh, yeah.
05:55You don't have to use all of it.
05:56Just like that.
05:57And you said this was a Swiss meringue?
05:58Yeah, this is going to be a Swiss meringue because of the difference between Swiss and Italian.
06:01Do you have any idea?
06:02Not really.
06:03Okay.
06:04Sugar syrup into the egg whites for Italian.
06:06Sugar syrup that you make first.
06:07Right.
06:08Sugar syrup.
06:09Okay, that's-
06:10And for Swiss, you heat the egg whites, four large egg whites with one cup of sugar.
06:13And you use crystal sugar.
06:14You don't use liquid sugar.
06:15Yeah, yeah.
06:16Well, no.
06:17But the other one is-
06:18You make a syrup.
06:19Right.
06:20So that's the difference.
06:21And a pinch of cream of tartar.
06:22I see.
06:23Who handles a whisk better than Martha?
06:25Right?
06:26Look at that wrist.
06:27Yeah, that wrist.
06:28Look at that technique, darling.
06:29Look at that technique.
06:30And then we put this, now that it's nice and warm, we put that right on our machine and beat it up into a froth.
06:38Okay.
06:39On a lowish speed.
06:40Yes.
06:41And then we have some that's already-
06:42Oh, I don't even have to do this.
06:43Oh, how lucky.
06:44We already have the meringue and you have some too.
06:47Yes.
06:48So here we can just turn this around.
06:50Okay.
06:51And we can top-
06:52I love piping bags.
06:53I love nothing better than a piping bag.
06:55Just squeeze with that hand.
06:56Don't squeeze with this hand.
06:57This hand is only for guiding.
06:58Right, for guiding and squeezing.
06:59Got it.
07:00And so we want like a little sort of a swirl, right?
07:02You want to put as much on as you want.
07:05Yep.
07:06So beautiful.
07:07Look how not horrible mine are.
07:10I will study them.
07:11Mine are sort of not horrible.
07:12Seriously, come on.
07:13That is perfect.
07:14It's not terrible.
07:15It's not horrible.
07:16I'm doing one more.
07:18You can make these ahead of time.
07:20I'm pressing my left.
07:21Put the meringue on and put them in the freezer.
07:24That one's pretty bad.
07:25If you have a-
07:26That might slide off.
07:27That might slide off, Isaac.
07:28It's sliding off, Martha.
07:29Sorry.
07:30Don't worry about it.
07:32So here, we're going to now make the plate.
07:34Okay.
07:35So here, this is how you-
07:36Creme en glaze.
07:37The secret for putting some creme en glaze on your plate without dripping.
07:41Without dripping.
07:42You had to say that, didn't you?
07:43Yes.
07:45And black plates are beautiful for this.
07:47Just one spoon.
07:48Look, I did it without spilling.
07:49Yes.
07:50All right, sorry.
07:51Okay.
07:52Maybe two, maybe two spoons.
07:53Yeah, I think two.
07:54And then swirl it around to cover the inside of the plate.
07:58Okay.
07:59I'm going to put a little bit more.
08:00Okay.
08:01That.
08:02Then we have chocolate inside.
08:03You're going so fast!
08:04Well, we have to because we're going to run out of time.
08:05All right.
08:06So now, to make the spider web, do you have any idea?
08:08I bet I know.
08:09I bet I can figure it out.
08:10Wait, don't tell me, don't tell me.
08:11Okay, I'm not going to tell you.
08:12I'm not looking.
08:13You put a little bit in the middle, and then you pull it with the things, right?
08:15Like this, with the toothpicks.
08:16No.
08:17What?
08:18Oh, God.
08:19Okay, wait, got it.
08:20Sorry.
08:21Mine is a little, kind of a bad spider web.
08:24It's like, okay, like that, right?
08:27It'll work.
08:28Look, it's not so bad, Martha.
08:29No, it's perfect.
08:30Okay, look.
08:31There you go.
08:32Voilà.
08:33Whichever way you wish to do it.
08:34But see that?
08:35Isn't that like magic, everyone?
08:37It really is magic.
08:38This is the Napoleon topping.
08:39Okay, guess what?
08:40I like mine better than I like yours.
08:42I'm just saying.
08:44Mine is more eerie and sort of scary and Halloween-ish.
08:47Well, fantastic.
08:49Oh, no, actually, yours is gorgeous.
08:50Sorry.
08:51I was mistaken.
08:52I would rather, if I were having, if I were choosing, I'd choose that one.
08:57So now, you choose one of your apples.
08:59Which apple are you going to choose?
09:00I'm going to choose this one.
09:01That one, because it's sort of tall.
09:02Okay.
09:03And you plunk it down.
09:04Right in the middle.
09:05And then...
09:06Uh-oh.
09:07This is the fun part.
09:08Martha with a blowtorch.
09:09Watch it, everybody.
09:10That's yours.
09:11Okay, this.
09:12You get a mini.
09:13I get the smaller one?
09:14How come?
09:15Just press that.
09:16All right.
09:17Or that.
09:18Press that down.
09:19Maybe with two hands.
09:21Good.
09:22Nice.
09:23Now, we don't want any more fires, darling.
09:25Enough fires.
09:27Look, I finished first.
09:29We'll take one.
09:32You can take that one.
09:33Okay.
09:34And we'll bend our hanger to create our skeleton for our ghost.
09:38And you push the ends in toward each other.
09:40Okay.
09:41And fold them over like this.
09:43And it actually creates the bend of the arm for you.
09:46Oh, okay.
09:47So it's your little elbow.
09:48Hello.
09:49Why isn't mine staying?
09:50This isn't staying.
09:51Oh, let's stay.
09:52Oh, over.
09:53Over itself, yeah.
09:54All right.
09:55Oh, mine's not staying out there.
09:56There, okay.
09:57There we go.
09:58And then you just want to straighten your hook here.
10:01Okay.
10:02And you will put the two together, and this will give you your skeleton frame, and this little
10:05Y here at the top, you want to...
10:08This way?
10:09Yes.
10:10Okay.
10:11And you'll twist those together to get that.
10:12Ours goes the wrong way.
10:13That's okay.
10:14Or we did it both the same way.
10:15Sure.
10:16All right.
10:17So that's what you want to end up with.
10:18That's what you get.
10:19Okay.
10:20And then we move on to this.
10:21We have our pantyhose.
10:22Okay.
10:23Two inches full of polyfill, and you just thread these right onto the...
10:28Oh, I see.
10:29...the skeleton like that.
10:31And go all the way through the center.
10:33There you go.
10:34Oh, through the center of the fill?
10:35Through the center of the fill.
10:36Okay.
10:37So that's just fiber fill?
10:38Totally.
10:39Polyfill.
10:40Okay.
10:41And your pantyhose, see, they bunch up a little bit here.
10:42And you want to take that little bunch and tie it to secure...
10:48You don't feel odd working with pantyhose?
10:50No.
10:51No?
10:52I'm a modern man, you know?
10:53Okay.
10:5421st century.
10:55So then, after you've tied that just like that, we move on to...
11:00The head.
11:01The head, yes.
11:02Which we have...
11:03Oh, so it's going to be this?
11:04Yes.
11:05It'll be the top of your pantyhose.
11:06Okay.
11:07We've created a little neck here with a twist tie.
11:10Oh, okay.
11:11And you have your swap right there.
11:12Oh, here's my twist tie.
11:13Okay.
11:14Yes.
11:15And we tie...
11:16This is where the Y at the top becomes important.
11:18Okay.
11:19Watch me here.
11:20We're going to tie...
11:21But I don't have anything to...
11:22Oh, I'm just going to use a swap out.
11:23That one.
11:24Okay, so fill it up.
11:25Fill it up to the top of your polyfill.
11:26Okay.
11:27Tie across your Y like this.
11:30Double knot it.
11:33And snip off your excess.
11:37And then to create the hook, so you can thread wire...
11:41These are cute.
11:42Aren't they?
11:43Yeah.
11:44You're going to bend the little bit of the hanger down like this.
11:48And you can slide a hook through there or a piece of string or whatever.
11:52That's how you would anchor it to your tree or inside.
11:56There.
11:57Got it.
11:58You got it?
11:59Got it, yeah.
12:00There.
12:01Okay.
12:02And then just push those down.
12:03Yep.
12:04Yeah, okay.
12:05As the ring to hang it.
12:07You can, yes, because then you slide your iron through that.
12:10Okay, great.
12:11So this is cheesecloth.
12:12Yes, actually we're using a gauze here.
12:15It's three yards, cut down the center, and we've shredded it.
12:18So you buy this at craft stores, at a hardware store.
12:21Exactly.
12:22And you want to start by dressing his arms or her arms.
12:26It's a she.
12:27This is a she.
12:28Okay, a her.
12:29She's wearing pantyhose.
12:30That's true.
12:31It's a she.
12:32Do I have to open this up?
12:33Oh, no, no, no, no.
12:34Oh, no, no, no, no.
12:35Oh.
12:36You can just slide it right on.
12:37Oh, okay.
12:38And we've clipped a little bit here, and just, you can shred it yourself.
12:42Just a couple of feet up.
12:43Oh.
12:44Okay.
12:45And we actually cut the fabric at an angle at the bottom, so it sort of gives this.
12:51Yeah.
12:52Tapered look to it.
12:53Destructive.
12:54Excellent.
12:55And it's a lot of fun, you know, get the kids, the whole family involved.
12:58And then after you dress her arms.
13:01I'm going to hang these in all my trees and from, you know, all around the gates.
13:05Oh, excellent.
13:06They'll look so nice.
13:07Yes, scare the trick-or-treaters.
13:08And here, if you want to grab your cheesecloth.
13:11Yeah.
13:12In the center there, slip that right over the little hook there.
13:17Okay.
13:18Right there.
13:19And here's another piece.
13:20This one.
13:21Same thing.
13:24Wonderful.
13:26And then this is the fun part because you get to style her, to dress her and make her look.
13:32And this, your grill cleaner, you know, from the outdoor barbecue, just shred those clothes.
13:38Yes, we use that to distress the cheesecloth.
13:41Yeah.
13:42You don't want her to look new.
13:44Too fancy.
13:45No.
13:46New or bright, yes.
13:48And also, if you want to add a little age to it, we have some coffee here and a spritzer.
13:53Oh, coffee.
13:54And, you know, give it a little brown look to it.
13:56Or tea would be good.
13:57Or tea.
13:58Same thing.
13:59Mm, smells good.
14:00It smells good.
14:01I think that's my leftover espresso from breakfast.
14:04Oh, well, we took what was lying around, you know.
14:07Well, that is a very good, and don't even tie the head or anything.
14:12Just let it look very scary, ghostly.
14:13Sure, right.
14:14And you can pose the arms because it's, you know, the hanger inside.
14:17So, make this this year, buy those things this year, and next year you can buy this.
14:23Another thing that I found were these 12-hour safety light sticks.
14:28You just break the stick, there, like that, and look what happens.
14:32Now, these are glow-in-the-dark.
14:34Put this around your neck or your kids' necks, and you will not be able to lose them, no matter how hard you try.
14:44These are really cute.
14:45And these are $1.97 each, and they last for 12 hours.
14:50They're really great.
14:51What I do, this is just a regular, like, umbrella you would buy at, you know.
14:55On the street.
14:56On the street, when it's raining, you know you have to buy an umbrella for how much, $4?
15:00Yeah, something like that.
15:01Okay.
15:02And first thing I do is I prepare it.
15:04I want to make sure that it doesn't, because it's a collapsible umbrella.
15:07So I prepare it with some tape.
15:08I put some tape on it to make sure that it doesn't collapse shut.
15:12Ever again.
15:13And then it also, I also want to make sure it doesn't open all the way.
15:16So I put some tape down here.
15:18I'll show you one that I prepared.
15:19Oh, okay.
15:20Because I don't want it to flip out inside out.
15:22Okay.
15:23So I'm going to show you.
15:24Oh, we have one already done.
15:25Here's one that's already prepared.
15:26I put tape.
15:27Okay.
15:28So adhesive tape.
15:29Don't use, you have to use a really good stiff tape.
15:30Yeah, something, this is actually gaff tape.
15:32Okay.
15:33But it should be, you can, you can.
15:34Looks like old-fashioned adhesive tape.
15:35You can double up the tape if you want to make it stronger.
15:37Okay.
15:38But you can see this is to make sure it doesn't open all the way, and this is to make sure it doesn't
15:41close all the way.
15:42What's the difference between gaff tape and gaffer's tape?
15:44I think they're the same.
15:45Oh, okay.
15:46I never heard gaff tape.
15:47I love tape, though.
15:48Tape and hot glue are my favorite things.
15:49Tape is great.
15:50Yes.
15:51Tape it to the limit is what I always say.
15:52Okay.
15:53And then this is a very strong.
15:54Just some string.
15:55Yeah.
15:56This is just a kind of nylon string.
15:57It could be anything.
15:58Unbreakable.
15:59I'm using white stuff so that you can see better here on TV.
16:00And this is going to activate up and down?
16:02Yeah.
16:03So I tie the string to the runner here.
16:05Okay.
16:06That's that piece that slides up and down the pole of the umbrella.
16:08Okay.
16:09And then I thread the string through.
16:10I just had a little loop here on the handle.
16:12Oh, okay.
16:13So I've threaded it through.
16:14And then what happens is I put a ring on it so I can pull it.
16:16Yeah.
16:17Oh, yes.
16:18And I get a little puppet movement action.
16:19Already looks bad.
16:20Okay.
16:21So the next thing that I want to do is I want to cut this so that it's into two bat wings.
16:25Oh, okay.
16:26So you have to take out a section.
16:27Yeah.
16:28So maybe you'll help me with that.
16:29Okay.
16:30And you want to cut.
16:31Oh, you already painted.
16:32We already painted.
16:33I spray painted it.
16:34And I also cut little scallops out, too, just to make it more bat-shaped.
16:36Okay.
16:37Should I cut?
16:38Yeah.
16:39So you're closer to the, or not too close.
16:40You don't want to cut the threads that throw it.
16:43Yeah.
16:44So all the way?
16:45Yeah.
16:46You can be in a little, maybe give it more like an inch of a margin.
16:49Oh, okay.
16:50I did something wrong.
16:51That's okay.
16:52And we'll do it on the other side, too.
16:55Okay.
16:56Oh, you don't want to see those on the opposite side.
17:01Okay.
17:02Very fun.
17:06And so, yeah, the Halloween parade in Brennish Village has been happening for years and years
17:12and years.
17:13Oh, yeah.
17:14People all over New York make amazing things that they bring onto the street.
17:18So here is, now it's starting to look like a bat.
17:21Definitely.
17:22Definitely.
17:23So you used chrome aluminum paint and just sprayed lightly.
17:29Yeah, I just did it so it wouldn't be so black, but you could actually do any color if you wanted to make it.
17:34This really is just making this basic bat movement.
17:36Okay.
17:37Now, it's kind of, it's up to you.
17:39I made, when I did the Halloween parade, I came up with this sort of goofy way of making a bat that I just, kind of these silly faces because I had to mass produce them.
17:48So I'm just sharing this with you.
17:49So rope and aluminum foil and marbles.
17:51I use aluminum foil and marbles.
17:53They make these eyes that they kind of, the aluminum foil catches the light.
17:57Oh, okay.
17:58I used a little bit of pasta for the teeth.
18:01Yes.
18:02It's just fun foam and I made a pattern for you guys so you can see.
18:05Oh, good.
18:06So just a few very common materials.
18:08And the nose I like because it's just a bit of rope that's tied into a bunch of knots.
18:14Like a knot on top of a knot on top of a knot.
18:16And then hot glue gun everything on?
18:17And then I just hot glue everything on.
18:19What's this?
18:20And this is just some fun fur to make it more fun and furry.
18:22Okay.
18:23So let's put some glue on there.
18:24Okay.
18:25Oh, black glue.
18:26I love your black glue sticks.
18:27Don't you love it?
18:28I remember them from last year.
18:29They're so great.
18:30Okay.
18:31Tape and hot glue are my favorite things.
18:34Weird.
18:35Yeah.
18:36Weird.
18:37Puppeteer.
18:38Puppeteer.
18:39And fake fur.
18:41And fake fur.
18:42Okay, so there's our bat.
18:43Very, very nice.
18:44Just kind of like stick on.
18:45And also, I made little hands.
18:49Yeah, little bat hands.
18:50They're also out of the same rope that I made the nose out of.
18:52So now, the eyes are here, but the hands are up there.
18:55Yeah, the hands are up at the top of the wings.
18:57Oh, that's right.
18:58This way.
18:59Yeah.
19:00And I didn't make any feet for him.
19:01Okay.
19:02So it's just the rope with tape.
19:04It's a good idea to look at a picture of a real bat and then play off the real thing.
19:08This is like a quickie thing that I made.
19:10Yeah.
19:11Really the main thing is making the umbrella so that it moves, but then you could make it
19:15however you want.
19:16You could make it different colors.
19:17I like the faux fur thing.
19:18But here, so first let's just glue on.
19:19Okay.
19:20I've mostly glued on these other, I've glued legs and arms.
19:23But you can just put a strip of glue right onto the arm.
19:27Yeah.
19:28And we'll just slap it right on here.
19:31Is that enough?
19:32Yep.
19:33Let's hit it.
19:34I want this to last.
19:35I'm taking this home.
19:37I love him.
19:38Okay.
19:39So this goes right on.
19:41Yep.
19:42Here.
19:43Oh, that covers up any...
19:44Yeah.
19:45Any...
19:46Any spokes you might see.
19:47Mistakes in the spoke world.
19:49And then the last...
19:50I love the little hands.
19:52I love the little hands, too.
19:53And then the head has to go on.
19:54And let's just put some more glue right here just so it stays, so he sticks on.
19:57Okay.
19:58Let's put another glue stick in there.
20:01All over here?
20:03Yeah.
20:04Just squirt it on good.
20:05He's going to fit right over that kind of...
20:08This little knob at the top of the umbrella.
20:11Mm-hmm.
20:12And he'll stay.
20:13That's good enough.
20:14That's enough?
20:15Yep.
20:16Glue is...
20:17Hot glue is very precise, right?
20:18Hot glue is the best.
20:19So we're going to turn it this way.
20:20Oh, yes.
20:21Okay.
20:22Here we go.
20:23That's going to hold?
20:24Squeeze them on.
20:25Yep.
20:26Oh, you have the little hole there.
20:27Oh, I forgot.
20:28The little hole is going to hold them on.
20:29Okay.
20:30So three cups of sugar.
20:31Okay.
20:32You have it here.
20:33All right.
20:34I have my three cups.
20:35And one tablespoon of meringue powder.
20:36Meringue powder.
20:37Just dump that in.
20:38Okay.
20:39Meringue powder.
20:40Meringue powder is like a substitute for egg whites.
20:41Okay.
20:42Oh, okay.
20:43And then three tablespoons of water.
20:44Okay.
20:45Okay.
20:46One, two.
20:47And you can mix this with your fingers.
20:48With my fingers?
20:49Yeah.
20:50Yes.
20:51Use a loose spoon first.
20:52Use a loose spoon first.
20:53Yeah.
20:54Then we're going to tear that sugar up, shock the sugar.
20:56No, no.
20:57Don't you like to get your hands dirty?
20:59Yeah.
21:00Well, yeah.
21:01We want to be gentle with the sugar.
21:02Okay.
21:03No, you don't have to be too gentle.
21:04Okay.
21:05We want that really mixed up.
21:06Okay.
21:07Get on in there.
21:08We made this for you already.
21:09Okay.
21:10That one.
21:11Okay.
21:12So just push that there.
21:13Okay.
21:14So now take your mold.
21:15Okay.
21:16Take your mold and take the sugar.
21:17Oh, see?
21:18And feel how damp it is when it sits for a little while.
21:19See?
21:20Yeah.
21:21You're going to get into your diamonds.
21:22Okay.
21:23You're getting it into your diamond rings.
21:24Yeah.
21:25That's okay.
21:26He's pretty blingy.
21:27A little sugar in the diamond ring.
21:28That's a song.
21:29Sugar in the diamond ring.
21:31That's a great song.
21:34Love that one.
21:35You can, you can, that's on your next album.
21:37You have to credit me.
21:38Absolutely.
21:39Title by Martha.
21:40I want you on the song.
21:41Oh, good.
21:42I'll be on it.
21:43I'll do it with you.
21:44Any time.
21:45Martha Goes Hip Hop.
21:46Yep.
21:47Love it.
21:48Great.
21:49I just...
21:50No, I'm a little sloppy.
21:51That's okay.
21:52You can be sloppy.
21:53But now you're going to press down with the cardboard.
21:55So you take a piece of the cardboard and really press.
21:58Okay.
21:59With the heel of your hand.
22:00Okay.
22:01Oh boy.
22:02Okay.
22:03So we get that.
22:04We want to make sure that it's in completely.
22:06Until now.
22:07Yes.
22:08All right.
22:09Okay.
22:10Let's see.
22:11Okay.
22:12We want those, those eye sockets and everything to sort of show up.
22:13Okay.
22:14Oh, I feel you.
22:15Okay.
22:16So now, now just go like this.
22:17Scrape it off.
22:18Okay.
22:19With the, with the cardboard.
22:20Okay.
22:21Scrape all the excess into the bowl.
22:22Now, can I ask a silly question?
22:23Yeah.
22:24Do you eat these?
22:25No, but you can.
22:26See, the whole thing is they are edible.
22:28Just in case somebody decided to take a bite out of the skull.
22:30I don't know what they would do.
22:31Just give these to your eight year old at midnight?
22:32Yeah.
22:33If you, if you want them up all night long, right?
22:36I know.
22:37So you have four kids?
22:38Yeah.
22:39Oh gosh.
22:40Are they fun?
22:41Yeah.
22:42Yeah.
22:44Very fun.
22:45Oh, I bet with a dad like you.
22:47Now turn this, turn this, put the cardboard.
22:49Okay.
22:50Okay.
22:51Oh.
22:52You're pretty good.
22:53You're pretty handy.
22:54Crafty.
22:55Wow.
22:56And now just lift off carefully.
22:57Oh, perfect.
22:58Look.
22:59Now let these, let them dry for five to eight hours, okay?
23:04Love that.
23:05Don't eat them.
23:06They're edible.
23:07I mean, they are totally edible.
23:08I love it.
23:09But don't eat them yet.
23:10Let them dry completely.
23:11And then we decorate them.
23:13Wow.
23:14And these are your little decorating.
23:16Okay.
23:17You have your own.
23:18Oh, okay.
23:19You know me.
23:20Yeah.
23:21Now if you want to wipe your hands, there's a little damp rag underneath.
23:24Okay.
23:25You have your own.
23:26Okay.
23:27I have all my own tools.
23:28You have everything.
23:29Now you collect, what do you collect?
23:30You collect hats, I hear.
23:31Yeah, I have lots of hats.
23:32Now I tried to get my Martha by Mail hat.
23:33Look, see that guy in the green shirt over there?
23:35Oh, that's funny.
23:36On your way out, grab that hat because that's a Martha by Mail.
23:39I need that hat.
23:40That's a collector's item.
23:41I love that.
23:42Yep.
23:43And he wants that.
23:44He says it's his, but you know what?
23:45Martha by Mail.
23:46Right.
23:47It's mine.
23:48I love that.
23:49It's mine.
23:50I love that.
23:51Okay, so now decorate any way you want.
23:52We gave you a few little examples.
23:53What do you want to do?
23:54Are you into skull thing?
23:55Yeah.
23:56I like skulls.
23:57I have no problem with skulls.
23:58We all have one.
23:59We do.
24:00Hopefully you all have a skull.
24:01Oh, let me see.
24:02So you can fill the eye sockets with this beautiful black royal icing.
24:06Oh, this is icing.
24:07Yeah, yeah.
24:08Edible.
24:09Edible.
24:10Oh boy.
24:11And then I'm going to make furrows on the brow.
24:13Okay.
24:14Oh gosh.
24:15I think I'm going to do something a little, I'm going to get a little creative.
24:18Make my man look a little wired.
24:20You are?
24:21Let's see.
24:22Let's see.
24:23You know what I'm saying?
24:24Oh, that looks good.
24:25Yeah, those big, you know.
24:26Yeah.
24:27You know those.
24:28And then you can make the mouth whatever you want.
24:32Horrible mouth.
24:33Yeah.
24:34If you want.
24:35Oh my gosh.
24:36I love doing this kind of stuff.
24:38This is really wild for me right now.
24:41This is so trippy.
24:44LL Cool J making sugar skulls.
24:47Let's take a look at our first model.
24:49This is Liberty the Pomeranian.
24:51With her pet keeper, Cheryl.
24:53And she's a New York sightseeing bust.
24:56That is very cute.
24:58Liberty.
24:59New York sightseeing bust.
25:01Did you make all the little dolls?
25:02It looks so cute because the doll is so little.
25:04I did not make the dolls.
25:05I ordered the dolls online.
25:06They're actually finger puppets.
25:07Oh.
25:08We didn't want anything too heavy.
25:09And they're in an egg carton.
25:10And they're inside of an upside down egg carton.
25:13Because it conforms to her back.
25:14Exactly.
25:15And the rest of it is felt with doll rods.
25:17Yes.
25:18And I hand made the letters and stitched them on last week.
25:21They are very.
25:22Are they cute?
25:23A little tiny dog as a bust.
25:24The incongruity of it is what's so appealing.
25:27So charming.
25:28Very, very cute.
25:29Now, let's take a look at our next model.
25:32He's a Bernese Mountain Dog.
25:34And his name is Tubbs.
25:36Tubbs.
25:38Hello.
25:39Oh, now what is Tubbs?
25:41Tubbs is a Bernese Mountain Dog dressed up as a Swiss pastry chef.
25:45Oh.
25:46Tubbs is from Switzerland.
25:47Yes, I know.
25:48I know.
25:49From Bern.
25:50Must be from Bern, right?
25:51Yes.
25:52So, hey, Tuz.
25:54Look at all the whisk hanging from him.
25:57You have a doggy cake and little footprints on your cake.
26:00I love paw prints.
26:01I love that.
26:03That is very, very charming.
26:05Where did you get the bones from?
26:06Oh, the bones are from PetSmart.
26:08Oh.
26:09And we like to think the whole cake is made of bones because he loves treats so much.
26:13Oh, he does, does he?
26:14Oh, great.
26:15What a well-behaved dog you have.
26:17Oh, thank you.
26:18Okay.
26:19He's perfect.
26:20And now let's take a look at our next model.
26:21Here comes Louie, the police dog.
26:26Oh, my God.
26:27Did you make that costume?
26:29We bought the base of it online, and then we created the patches, and we went to Michael's,
26:34and we ironed them on after we printed them on the computer, and then we bought patches
26:38and sewed on the letters also for Michael's.
26:40Sergeant Louie.
26:41Now that dog fits the costume perfectly.
26:43Oh, that dog does fit the costume, and the costume fits the dog, right?
26:47The costume fits the dog.
26:48Yeah.
26:49It's really amazing.
26:50Look at the handcuffs.
26:51Handcuffs.
26:52A special, his special walkie-talkie to the rest of the police force.
26:58I would like him to be on.
26:59What gave you that idea?
27:00Oh, my fiance's a correction officer, so what better costume than having a bad dog police
27:05officer?
27:06Oh, perfect.
27:07Well, thank you very much.
27:09And our next model dog.
27:11Oh, look how cute.
27:12Oh, isn't this charming?
27:13This is great.
27:14Oh.
27:15Again, the costume.
27:16Oh.
27:17And Sherlock Holmes.
27:18When they start to shake their heads, forget the hats, right?
27:20Sherlock Holmes is one of my favorite characters.
27:22Oh, Sherlock Holmes.
27:23We call him Sherlock Bones, actually.
27:25Oh, sure.
27:26Oh, it's Nicky.
27:27Yeah.
27:28Nicky.
27:29Nicky from our kitchen, head of our TV kitchen.
27:31Nicky, they told me you were going to be in this show.
27:33Yes.
27:34Oh, your dog is beautiful, Nicky.
27:38You know what's nice about this?
27:39All it takes is the pipe and the hat and the magnifying glass.
27:41And the magnifying glass.
27:42And you know it.
27:43You know.
27:44Oh, yes.
27:45And you know, too, don't you?
27:46You're going to be investigated.
27:48And for our final model, thanks, Nicky.
27:51You're welcome.
27:52Come on.
27:53Oh, this is the piece de resistance.
27:55Tippi, the seven-year-old peacock.
27:58She's with her owner, Marty, and she does look regal.
28:02What a beautiful costume.
28:04And greyhounds, I mean, they're just such beautiful dogs.
28:08And what's great about this costume is because the greyhound has a long beak like a peacock.
28:12Yes, exactly.
28:13And look at the feet, the front legs.
28:14He prances like a peacock would walk, too.
28:15Oh, he does.
28:16And the little hat is perfect.
28:17She's perfect.
28:18And your beautiful purple collar.
28:20It's all befitting.
28:22And that's a beautiful thing.
28:23You have the purple collar.
28:24I didn't even notice that.
28:25Like a peacock's purple neck.
28:26Oh, but look how regal.
28:27Yeah, it's perfect.
28:28And she's a rescue.
28:29And she is a rescue, Will.
28:30Yeah, greyhounds is wonderful.
28:31So wonderful.
28:32Thank you very much.
28:33What a beautiful, beautiful costume.
28:35And so let's take a final look at all of our costume creatures.
28:40You want to go stand over there, please?
28:42Come on, tip, tip.
28:43And it's very, very nice to see all these clever dog costumes in our audience.
28:50What a beautiful array.
28:53Yes.
28:56So gorgeous.
28:57Well, thank you all for making the effort.
29:00You can find all these tapes at Home Depot.
29:04And the tapes come in different colors.
29:06This is Hillman Sign Center.
29:09These are reflective tapes.
29:10They're not glow-in-the-dark tapes.
29:12So these will not show up in the dark only if light is on them.
29:18But it's really great.
29:19And you can use these tapes even as enhancers for the costumes themselves,
29:24along the hems of the costumes, on hats.
29:27They're very, very good.
29:28And we've been, to make all these little creatures of the night,
29:32we're just using our round punch.
29:34And you can use any kinds of punches that you want.
29:37You can punch big rounds like this.
29:40Or you can do halves like that.
29:43And just go around the whole edge and cut them out.
29:46And then just in any way you wish.
29:48Oh, if you want to make eyes on them, just use a Sharpie pen.
29:52You don't have to, it's so easy to make an eyeball or part of an eye on this reflective tape.
30:03So, so easy.
30:04And then just paste them on the bag.
30:07So here's, we'll do one little cross-eyed creature.
30:14That's a good one.
30:16Just do, just eyes are fun to do.
30:20And I think it's so easy.
30:23And you can do this or your kids can do this and take them to school.
30:29They're just so simple.
30:32And we're going to be doing all these integrations with all the kinds of things that you can find at the Home Depot.
30:40I went into the Hollywood Home Depot in California the other day.
30:43I was there on Monday.
30:44I had so much fun finding all kinds of things that I needed, first of all, around my house.
30:53And all kinds of things that I could put to uses, not necessarily the common uses, like reflective tape.
31:00Who would have guessed that you could make these cute little bags?
31:03Well, I'm back with Rosie Perez and we're almost ready to light up our Jacko clocks.
31:07And so they have been all, yes, Rosie, they have all been cut out very beautifully.
31:13Look, real clock on here.
31:15Now you can buy this, this little, it's called clockparts.com.
31:24$3 to $5 for the little clock hands and a battery run clock behind it.
31:31So this is great.
31:32I mean, $3 to $5, you have a real clock.
31:34That's the financial crunch today.
31:36Yes.
31:37It's a bargain.
31:38So, but the pumpkin will rot, you know, after a week or so.
31:43Right.
31:44And then your clock will have to be transferred to something else.
31:46Okay.
31:47You can just put it on the wall, paint numbers on the wall and stick this on the wall.
31:50Clockpart.
31:51Yeah.
31:52Yeah.
31:53But now if you want to illuminate this and it's really great to have it illuminated because
31:57once you turn the lights down, you'll see it better.
31:59Just use, you know, this is a double duty.
32:02This is Christmas tree lights.
32:03Just wrap this around your arm like this.
32:05You want to sort of around, they don't come like that, but use your Christmas tree lights
32:10for Halloween and then take them out of the pumpkin and use them for your tree or your wreath.
32:19That's good.
32:20It needs to go around.
32:21We're going to stick this.
32:23It doesn't work like that.
32:25Sorry.
32:26No shortcuts.
32:28Yes, Martha.
32:30You can stuff it all inside.
32:35So now you have sort of the shape of your pumpkin like that.
32:39Okay?
32:40Right.
32:41Okay.
32:42So now turn your pumpkin over.
32:43Now be careful of the clock and you stuff this inside.
32:50Again, I said to my producers, why not a 200 watt light bulb?
32:55Why all these, right?
32:57Yeah.
32:58I mean, for goodness sake.
33:00And why go around your elbow and you can just stuff them in here like this?
33:07Oh, the glory of TV.
33:11Yes.
33:12Let's see.
33:13Okay.
33:14Now, just to be a little careful.
33:18Now, it's not ready yet.
33:19Oh.
33:20Use this to hold it in.
33:21Okay.
33:22Like that, right underneath your, so that just holds it in a little bit.
33:26And it's going to get hot in there with the lights on.
33:31And then put your little part back in.
33:35So cute.
33:36Okay.
33:37Put your little, did you put it back on?
33:38Yep.
33:39Use these little toothpicks.
33:40And just to hold it in, sort of wedge them in as if you were like that.
33:45You know what I, I get so, like, who thinks of this stuff?
33:49Huh?
33:50Oh.
33:51We have, we have goblins and gremlins working night and day to come up with these great ideas,
33:56Rosie.
33:57I love it.
33:58This is, this is serious stuff.
33:59You know what we used to do during Halloween?
34:00Yeah.
34:01We used to go get the leaves and take wax paper and crayon shavings and then iron it.
34:06You remember that?
34:07Yes.
34:08I used to love that.
34:09Oh, yes.
34:10Well, I, I think there's a project just like that in our magazine.
34:13So that you're not disappointed.
34:15So this, then.
34:16Find, find your, uh, plug.
34:19You can figure it out.
34:21There's the positive and the negative.
34:23Oh, my God.
34:24There.
34:25What kind of outlet is this?
34:27I know.
34:28No, it works.
34:29It's there.
34:30It's there on the side.
34:32Yes, please.
34:33Yeah, see.
34:34The other way.
34:35Yeah, not easy.
34:36Okay.
34:37So you're 12 on top.
34:39And I, I just think it's really, really great.
34:44So.
34:45And now you're, you're, um, you can take this to Obama.
34:49Oh, yes.
34:50Yes.
34:51You're working with him, right?
34:52Yes.
34:53I'm working with, uh, Barack Obama on his campaign.
34:54Um, there we are.
34:55That's when I met him in Washington, uh, D.C.
34:57Oh.
34:58I was so nervous.
34:59He said, hello.
35:00And I said, no, no, no, no.
35:01That's all I said.
35:02And, uh, and, um, he asked me to campaign.
35:05He asked me to campaign for him.
35:06And I said, it would be an honor because I think it's really crucial right now with
35:09everything that's going on.
35:10And, and, uh, we're going, we're going to be down in Florida and central Florida on the
35:1511th in Tampa, Florida, and on the 12th in someplace else in Florida.
35:20But you can, you can, if you want to go, if you're in Florida and you're watching, go
35:25to my.barackobama.com and you'll, you can come see me and Congresswoman Nita Velasquez
35:31and, and some other Latin folks.
35:33Oh, good.
35:34So you're going, you're going down to, down there to do that.
35:37That's great.
35:38Yes, yes.
35:39And I'm very, very excited about it.
35:40And I just encourage everybody to get really involved with this election, right?
35:43Yes.
35:44It's very important.
35:45Very important.
35:46It is, um, it is a crucial election and very important now to keep this from rotting.
35:50Uh huh.
35:51Uh, at least, at least a little bit, use some Vaseline just on all the cut parts.
35:56It'll keep it from, huh?
35:58With little Q-tips.
35:59Oh, you can do that too.
36:01For real?
36:02Anything that's sort of lubricating.
36:04Well, I'm from Brooklyn so I'm going to do the lip gloss.
36:07Okay.
36:08Okay.
36:09Is Brooklyn in the house?
36:10No problem.
36:11And, uh, and now we're going to look at our pumpkins by dimming the lights just a little
36:18bit so that you can see how cute these are as it gets darker and darker.
36:23And every day you'll see more and more Halloween on our set.
36:27Well, Rosie, your delight as usual.
36:30Thank you, thank you, thank you.
36:31And would you like to take your clock home with you?
36:33I was going to steal it, but I'm so glad you offered it.
36:35No, you don't have to.
36:36So, thank you.
36:37Thank you very much.
36:38Take it home and put it in your window, okay?
36:41Thank you so much.
36:42If you're hosting a Halloween bash, and I am, here's a great idea for a party favor,
36:47a coffin treat box.
36:49It's simple to make and drop-dead adorable and, uh, very, very simple.
36:55Watch this.
36:56It's so great.
36:57So, you need a template.
36:59And we have the template right on MarthaStewart.com.
37:02This is the template for the top.
37:04You can see that the rim is a little bit smaller than the template for the bottom.
37:09And you'll need some, if you want to make it black, which is very, um, appealing for this time of year,
37:15uh, you can just get some black craft paper like this.
37:18And this is card stock.
37:20It's a little heavier than regular craft paper.
37:22And some interesting, look, two different sides.
37:27This is all Martha Stewart crafts at Michael's.
37:30Just glue the two together and you'll have a nice, hard card stock.
37:35And you can just use a glue stick.
37:37And a little bit of glue goes a long way.
37:40This is a nice, fat glue stick.
37:43And just put a little bit of glue all over this.
37:46And stick this together.
37:51You can make an orange box.
37:53You don't have to use this decorative side if you just have plain orange paper, which would be just fine.
37:59And let that dry before you use it.
38:02And here we have the card stock.
38:04And here is the bottom of the box.
38:07And if you want to hold this, you're going to cut this out.
38:10So to make it very easy, just staple this around.
38:13You can do more than one at a time, by the way, as, uh, depending on how good your scissors are,
38:20you could probably do three or four boxes at a time.
38:23And then just cut out the shape.
38:26And, uh, because these are straight lines, you could use a rotary cutter if you like.
38:31Or you could even use a great big paper cutter, which would work very easily.
38:35Or just excellent craft scissors.
38:38So cut that all out.
38:39And we have it all cut out here.
38:41This is what it looks like.
38:42Cut, um, on the, um, solid lines.
38:46All the solid lines are to be cut.
38:48Not the dotted lines.
38:49The dotted lines are folding.
38:51And, of course, when you want to do your folds, let me just show you.
38:57You know, I always talk about bone folders.
39:00And I just want to make sure.
39:03So instead of the ordinary old bone folder, use a bone folder.
39:10This is probably from, what part of the skeleton was this?
39:16Somebody stole it off that little fellow out there.
39:19I know they did.
39:20I said, you know, get a bone.
39:22And, uh, what bone is missing over there, Joey?
39:24I think you should go look.
39:25I don't know.
39:26It looks like a femur.
39:27Okay.
39:28No.
39:29A femur is bigger than that.
39:30It's...
39:31Femur is bigger than that?
39:32Yes.
39:33Definitely.
39:34It could be a finger.
39:35Yeah.
39:36It looks like a part of a very long hand.
39:39Anyway, fold this.
39:41Give it a good push with the bone folder.
39:44So you get a nice crease.
39:46And the whole thing is folded up like this.
39:49And then you put it together.
39:51With glue, another...
39:53Use the smaller glue stick.
39:55And, um, you want to put the glue on these little flaps.
39:59And this is going to be folded up like that.
40:01So you put the glue on this part.
40:04And do it neatly so you don't get glue everywhere.
40:08Fold that like this.
40:10And to hold it together while the glue dries, just use a paper clip.
40:15You know, we have so many paper clips lying around from all the memos that come around this place.
40:21And then this one goes like that.
40:23So all of a sudden you're getting the real shape of a coffin.
40:28I actually don't like coffins very much.
40:34But I like this one because it's just for candy.
40:39So here.
40:43There's some things that are just a little ghoulish.
40:46Coffins are one of them.
40:48Make sure everything's very nice on the outside so it looks very neat.
40:52Here's the finished box.
40:53Look at this.
40:54Isn't that the cutest?
40:56Here's the top.
40:59Now you can fill this with candy, with M&M's, Milky Ways, Twix, Snickers.
41:07Joey, you love all this stuff.
41:09Yes, indeed I do, Martha Stewart.
41:11Okay.
41:13Joey's hanging around.
41:15Have you been dipping into all the little jars and things that we have on the set?
41:20Yes, I have.
41:21I forgot to ask them to please glue them down.
41:24Okay.
41:25Anduin.
41:26Anduin does our set design here and she's forgotten to glue it down.
41:30Keep your fingers off that.
41:31Okay.
41:32Okay.
41:33Now, these are cute.
41:34These are spooky phrase stickers.
41:37Have you seen these in the store?
41:39These are in the craft stores.
41:40Look at this.
41:41Rotten, caution, beware, poison, toxic.
41:44Okay.
41:45So for you, I won't give you poison.
41:47I will give you toxic.
41:49Put that on your coffin.
41:53Okay.
41:54And then an old piece of twine.
41:57This looks so good.
41:59And crisscross this so it looks really as if it were ready for the crypt.
42:11Tie it.
42:12And it's ready.
42:13Now, I'm having a party for 55 next week.
42:18And I want 55 of these boxes, please, Joey.
42:22Okay.
42:23In your time off at lunchtime, I want you to create these for me.
42:27I'll get my bone folder ready, Martha.
42:29Okay.
42:30I think you could use a real femur bone.
42:33It would work better than this little dinky bone that I was given.
42:37I happen to have a couple laying around.
42:38Okay.
42:39Here, Joey.
42:40Thank you, Martha.
42:41Candy.
42:42A party favor to die for.
42:46On this pedestal, we have all different kinds of creep cakes.
42:49This is to, if you have trick-or-treaters come to your house and you invite them in,
42:54if you live in a neighborhood where you can do that.
42:57You want to, and we, and I grew up in Notley, New Jersey, where we had fantastic homeweens
43:03every single year.
43:04Just wonderful things.
43:05And we would go in and to get a treat, we'd have to, you know, do a trick or a performance
43:10or something.
43:11Right.
43:12Snaggletooth smiles.
43:13I love these.
43:14Yummy mummies.
43:15Sugary skulls.
43:16Beady eyes.
43:17So we have to make colors of frosting.
43:19Okay.
43:20This is just a nice, rich buttercream.
43:21Are you a good cook?
43:23No.
43:24No?
43:25Oh.
43:26Okay.
43:27Can you microwave?
43:28Can you microwave?
43:29Yes, I can microwave.
43:30Okay.
43:31So these little airheads, they're called, have to be softened before we can cut them.
43:33Because if you try to cut them when they're hard, they, oh, they cut a little bit.
43:37Maybe because of the lights here.
43:38Okay.
43:39But just put those in just for a couple.
43:40From one airhead to another.
43:41Yes.
43:42Right.
43:43Wherever the microwave is.
43:44There it is.
43:45And you need to go out and find all kinds of candies.
43:49There are airheads.
43:50There are gumdrops.
43:51There's licorice lace.
43:53There's mini marshmallows.
43:55There is, oh, there.
43:57Perfect.
43:58There is black sanding sugar.
44:01Did you know that sanding sugar came in black?
44:03And did you know there is such a thing as sanding sugar?
44:06It's the kind of sparkly sugar that will make these wonderful spidery, spiders with fangs.
44:11I've never seen that.
44:12Yeah.
44:13It's amazing what you can get in the cake decorating store.
44:16And if you can't find stuff, go to MarthaStewart.com and it sort of instructs you about where
44:20everything is.
44:21So now with our scissors.
44:22So now what do we do?
44:23Okay.
44:24You can take your scissors and just cut this into long kind of tentacle, tentacles.
44:29Yes.
44:30Like that.
44:31I'm going to mess this up.
44:32No, I'm going to mess this up.
44:33No, you're not.
44:34You can't mess this up.
44:35It's not.
44:36I think you can get four out of one of these airheads.
44:39Why are they called airheads?
44:40I have no idea.
44:41That makes absolutely no sense.
44:42No.
44:43I don't even know what an airhead is.
44:44Oh, they smell really good.
44:45They're apple.
44:46Yeah.
44:47Oh, they are?
44:48They're appley?
44:49Yeah.
44:50They're like green apple.
44:51Okay.
44:52I don't know why they're called airheads though.
44:53So there.
44:54We need to look it up and find out.
44:55Now we can ice the cupcakes with the buttercream.
44:58And you can use this kind of chartreuse.
45:00There's your cupcake.
45:01That's my cupcake.
45:02And I'm going to mix, do mine with this kind of a brighter apple.
45:06All right.
45:07Appley green.
45:08Sort of like an airhead green.
45:09Okay.
45:10So then you stick these little.
45:11All right.
45:12Mine doesn't look pretty good.
45:13Tentacles in here.
45:14Of course, Mark the store did it much better than I did.
45:16No, yours is beautiful.
45:17Don't talk smoothly too much.
45:18Okay.
45:19Okay.
45:20Tentacles to stick out and use the flat end in the frosting.
45:25You might even have to add a little bit more frosting.
45:27Okay.
45:28I have to fix my tentacles.
45:29Think of the frosting as the glue.
45:31Okay.
45:32And then you.
45:33This is so exciting right now.
45:35Stick these in.
45:36Sorry.
45:37We're going to make these gorgeous.
45:38Okay.
45:39Thingy spiders.
45:40And these are very easy to make because now you're going to use the white frosted cupcakes.
45:45And you dip them into the sanding sugar, really push it in there so that it completely coats
45:50the frosting with that black glistening sugar.
45:53Now, isn't that great?
45:54That's great.
45:55It's just an amazing transformation, the sanding sugar, what it does for cupcakes.
45:59And if you've been reading, cupcakes are the thing right now.
46:03Everybody wants to make cupcakes because everybody likes to eat cupcakes.
46:07Do you go to Magnolia Bakery?
46:09Oh, of course.
46:10I went in there the other day.
46:11There was no room to stand.
46:14There were so many people in there ordering and buying cupcakes.
46:17Just the best.
46:18Yep.
46:19Really good.
46:20I live from Magnolia Bakery.
46:21But you can make those.
46:22You don't have to stand in line.
46:23You can make these.
46:24Indeed.
46:25Put fangs.
46:26And those are just the mini marshmallows that you cut with a scissor.
