00:00Police say that the 52-year-old driver failed to stop at a stop sign around 6 o'clock yesterday
00:10evening on Mother's Day. Now, as a result of that, they say that he then crashed into another car
00:19that was travelling in this area of Trafalgar, which is about 125 kilometres east of Melbourne's
00:26CBD. So that's near Mowi in the Gippsland region. And in the end, his car ended up coming to rest
00:33in a drain embankment. Sadly, the 48-year-old woman from Dandenong North, who was in the front passenger
00:40seat, died at the scene. Her 19-year-old daughter and 15-year-old son, along with her 52-year-old
00:49husband, who of course was driving, they were all seriously hurt. And we understand that they were
00:54flown to hospitals here in Melbourne. Now, we've heard from Detective Sergeant Mark Amos from the
01:02Major Collision Investigation Unit. And he says that the investigation is ongoing, and police are
01:08trying to piece together exactly what led to this driver failing to stop. It's just an absolute
01:15tragedy that we've got the loss of a life, a wife, a mother, on Mother's Day, is killed in a crash that
01:24just should never, ever have occurred. At just a moment of inattention, a moment's distraction,
01:31you go through a stop sign, and you ruin your life and the lives of your family in one single blow.
01:38That's Detective Sergeant Mark Amos, and he was just again reiterating that people really need to
01:44stay alert at all times when they're on the road. Now, he says that a 58-year-old woman who was in the
01:50passenger seat of the other car, the intersecting car that was crashed into, she was also seriously
01:57hurt, while the 60-year-old male driver sustained minor injuries. And in another shocking crash here
02:04in Melbourne's southeastern suburbs in Clayton South, two people have died. Police say that two cars
02:12collided head-on at the intersection of Westall Road and Rosebank Avenue just before six o'clock this morning.
02:21They say that the female and male drivers were the sole occupants of both of those vehicles, and they were
02:28declared deceased at the scene. And they are currently continuing to close that intersection while
02:35investigations remain on foot there.
