00:00So I worked with the team. All the waste which was collected from the dining and decor was
00:04segregated into wet and dry waste. This Chennai bride tried to make her wedding as sustainable
00:09as possible. The fruits and food that was wasted was taken to feed the cattle. Consulted the
00:14veterinary doctor here and upon his approval we fed the cows here. Instagram user Uma Raghavan
00:19shared that over 110 kg of waste was managed through careful segregation, composting and
00:24recycling. Food scraps were reused as cattle feed, banana leaves and flowers were composted
00:30into manure and discarded plastic bottles were repurposed into decorative elements.
00:34And since I worked with this team last minute, the catering team already bought the water bottles.
00:39We decided to recycle the plastic bottles here. The water that was wasted was reused for the
00:43plants and the team collected all the plastics from the event and this was sent to the plastic
00:48recycle place. Around 110 waste was collected in our event.
00:51Talking of waste, an average Indian wedding with 400-1000 guests generates nearly 3 tons
00:57of trash. That includes 700-800 kg of food waste and flowers and up to 1500 kg of plastic plates,
01:05cutlery and decor. Even fancy wedding invites ends up in the bin. And with 80 lakh to 1 crore
01:11weddings every year in India, you can imagine the mountain of waste. But in all this, Uma's
01:16eco-friendly wedding broke the pattern and the internet couldn't stop applauding.
01:21Thanks to Connect2Boomy team for helping me in planning and organising this whole thing.
01:25They also placed posters all around the hall for educating the people about the minimal
01:28waste event. Though I couldn't completely avoid plastics in my event, I tried what I could
01:33in every way possible to bring a change.
