01:36ladies and gentlemen please welcome the former ibf world champion and tonight the reigning and defending
01:45ib.0 super featherweight champion of the world
01:51Anthony the andytown apache kakache
01:57well there may not be the 67 000 that were at Tottenham Hotspur stadium a fortnight ago but there are thousands in here making a real racket hundreds of Irish fans to our left and
02:15so many here to see Lee Wood this world class fight between two such entertaining and long-serving boxers who we admire so much the fusion of these two could produce
02:32a fight and a night to remember the natural super featherweight
02:51and Lee Wood up in late back after a long layoff and well he's so desperate for the win
03:00he's so desperate for the win here but
03:05kakache in terrific form dary
03:08yeah he is really really confident at the minute but Lee Wood you can never rule him out
03:14jab very very key for both early on that stabbing jab to the body from Lee Wood important to
03:21get the hands low of kakache and kakache to set up that powerful right hand of his
03:30barrier i was thinking as they got into the ring had it been Anthony Kakache was in comparison to Lee Wood
03:37yeah it's been Lee Wood that's taking the sound of the ring but i would say he's throwing a couple of jabs and
03:41and kakache's throwing that right hand over the top and landed twice so maybe
03:45was going to make sure that jab's come back comes back as fast as it goes out
03:48very very positive start here from Lee Wood taking a little step back there just missing the left hook
03:59you gotta make sure he gets out of my door Lee Wood i think kakache just had a timing coming in here
04:03he's got those long arms kakache both switch hits
04:15kakache off to the southpaw but they start orthodox Lee Wood was once upon a time trained on that
04:23winker back hill under Brendan and Dominic Engel
04:32i mean the experience in 55 fights between them and what they've seen through the years
04:39amazing yeah what could still be to come as well for the winner it's a very very important win here a loss
04:46you would say that's all she wrote and also let's be honest Lee Wood you never thought he would get to this level
04:54he surpassed everyone's expectations and he's been brilliant once he got this
04:57down he proved he deserved to be here and he should have been here all the long and for kakache
05:02it never looked like his ability was going to get the rewards he deserved for a long time
05:06and now they're both here they both really belong and it's a really really interesting fight
05:11and the cage is sharp as well yeah there wasn't much in the shot but he's landed over the javelin wood from kakache
05:24plenty of respect early in this one yeah do you know what that left up is there for kakache
05:30when wood comes forward and falls short that captain left up a very dangerous shot
05:34the team around this man anthony anto the apache kabache and he really is
05:44a super fighter in fight number 25
05:48for the ibf champion at nine stone four what a win that was in rear against joe cordina under
05:55even at the time but what victories lee wood has had particularly that unbelievable moment or moments
06:05later on against michael conlon yeah incredible that that was spectacular the fire and the atmosphere
06:12but i'll tell you what he doesn't well he hasn't approached this fight he hasn't started this fight
06:16lee wood as if he's been out the ring for for as long as he has
06:20a double jab there from lee wood nice solid left hands
06:29they're looking composed here lee wood
06:3219 months of inactivity trying to get that jab going
06:37do you think kakache stepping in a little bit too far with that front foot when he throws the jab and that's just
06:41short in the distance allowing wood to match in with that left hand
06:44you've got to step with the jab you've got to use that reach as well step in and off really quick
06:51barrioral division and lee wood has moved up he said he just could have made featherweight and he feels so much stronger now at this one
07:00yeah i don't know and you can argue that you know the probability that's in his chin might have even been making weight all those things have a factor of course but
07:06added with that you're fighting guys who are coming down from a bigger weight again so there's always that worry that
07:12you're not going to need to have the strength and power that you do power the lower weights
07:15or you replenish properly with with no the nutrition values and then you are more powerful
07:23and what about kakache could he be moving to lightweight how will he be
07:30under the pressure was a good shot from kakache best of the fight so far
07:36yeah that was a lovely overhand right
07:42picked it well didn't it yeah he did very sharp and accurate with it didn't load up with the shot
07:46either and again beautiful right hand straight this time taking it well though because he's been able to
07:52see it so he just just tense that neck up when he takes the shot and talking about stepping up in
07:57weight i think that will help his punch resistance
07:59the part of the thrills of lee wood's career is that he has been stopped a couple of times
08:15he's been down hurt come back for dramatic victories that's why the fans here love him in nottingham
08:23he's uh just really replaced karl frocks as the headliner in this fighting mad city how long can he go on for 36 now
08:41has been great under ben davidson over the last few years they're a really tight team
08:46and can he produce one of those standout wins he still believes that huge victory is to come and
08:56that he couldn't really celebrate the michael connor one because he was worried about him afterwards
09:02maybe is tonight well that you can totally understand why he believes that with the
09:08experience that he has the power that he carries that the resilience
09:11he takes out a nice sort of short effort there though from kukachi nice wide behind that double
09:18jab though from wood turns southpaw for the first time kukachi yeah mp the profile there's a little bit
09:24just got a little dini with that jab there woods just takes you up with it there's a really good
09:28angle for the for the attack listen to this crowd
09:40i say more faints there from kukachi i think is needed
09:44which is going to be careful not getting too far over that front foot
09:48the catcher wood tries to come back he shoulders a little bit tightly wood he hurt him i don't think
09:55kukachi realized they're saying that he's more dangerous isn't he he would when he's hurt
10:04trying to get that right hand around the guard kukachi who broke through joe cordina
10:10in spectacular fashion but he knows about wood's power there's the uppercut for the first time these
10:17big long arms of kukachi beginning to work he describes that little white uppercut really well
10:24do kukachi right through the garden lee wood just going to straighten that right hand over there
10:29kukachi will let it go and wood's got to keep those hands a little bit tighter when he's coming forward
10:36i think the last southpaw that lee wood faced was jason dickens and he walks into a left turn
10:41so kukachi mixing it up because dickens b lee wood
10:44just out of range wood in this third round kukachi looking more accurate and fluent
10:57and fluent and fluent and the little faint there as well from kukachi
11:02jab is so important for lee wood that's stabbing jab to the body
11:06former world featherweight champion former ibs super featherweight champion they're elite really even at 36
11:18and you can't take your eyes off this and you can't take your eyes off this the boxing grade is ticking over
11:25as they trade leather in front of this packed round in nottingham
11:31as well around the naples area anthony kukachi has got
11:45friends and followers all over the place he once upon a time delivered pizzas and chinese food he was
11:52struggling as a young fighter and he's beaten the system and he's come through to this sort of level
12:01he's great to watch so too is lee wood and the respect you saw darren at the end of that third round
12:07between the parallel was great wasn't it so what gentlemen they are but it was a bag of tricks in that
12:13third round kukachi hard to read start switching a lot more as he is now at the southpaw
12:22he's got to be careful when you're switching you don't overdo it and overcomplicate yourself
12:28i was just thinking that when isham pippering did that and was knocked out as he switched in a world
12:33title fight yeah it was martinez wasn't it sheffield it was indeed lee wood the nottingham man following
12:43the footsteps of herald mom and glenn and karl frotch jason and nicky boo jowie calique and others
12:52will you get that dream fight at the city ground or anthony kakachi silenced the home crowd he's boxing
13:05well in patches kakachi yeah woods walking down here but kakashi's down to get a better shot
13:11even though they're on the full trail left hook it was a nice tricky little sneaky shot there from kakachi
13:16and the the difference when you're watching two top level fighters the the non-punching activity look at
13:23all the feints that they're doing they're trying to find the openings because they're hard to come by
13:27when you're fighting at this level swimming through it to set traps combination from wood partially brought by
13:34kakachi but the fans got behind that one and they'll be driving wood through the rock patches this is
13:41better from lee wood he's just not committed to the right hand here we don't understand why because
13:45he's been caught throwing it a few times but he's double jabbing there and that's where that right
13:49hand's gonna go rotate with that right down yeah i think he really needs to take that head off the
13:53line to his left when he throws the right hand try and keep yourself out of danger as you throw the shot
13:58i understand he doesn't want to throw from here but with the double jab it gets in close to this
14:02he can really commit to the shot he's got a lovely jab lee wood but the reach with kakachi who's got the
14:11speed here they both carry fast hands i would i would say for catching i think ever so slightly
14:21i think it's not whipping this shot if more than speed maybe
14:25yeah the whip of kakachi right now from wood standing in front of him really wants to fight
14:32there's the apricot nice work from lee wood late on in this round and kakachi's smiles warming up nicely
14:43he told me it will be a golden 2025 frank warren at the beginning and he's delivering
14:50who sick dubois which i guess along with canelo and crawford is the fight of the year but within
14:58the trade many people excited about the one that's right on right here fifth round
15:05anthony kakachi lee wood and it's been absorbing yeah that's exactly what it is that's the perfect
15:12words absorbing it hasn't been the firefight yet because either one knows they can't make a massive
15:17mistake and they get they will have to obtain maybe the ultimate price how are you seeing it after
15:22four got kakachi just in front here it's close though the wrongs are close they've got kakachi
15:28though slightly bent more ahead from darren i think at the minute
15:31let's bring kakachi um three one up the last round was the first round i'd give to lee wood and i think
15:41there was a couple of close rounds um but anto was landing the more telling shots i think in each round
15:48apart from the last one two and three anto probably stole the round because he'd hurt he hurt lee
15:53once or twice so i'm in front here i think you're back on i think lee wood's last round was his best
15:59he could argue possibly about one of the others but kakachi in front on car's unofficial guard three
16:06judges at ringside ibo belt on the line but these are world-class operators former world champions
16:16and the intelligence and real iq and look at kakachi's speed and the way he goes through the gears yeah
16:23fantastic jab sharp and followed it up in the right hand he's done well just to take the feet out of
16:29range lee but as he does there just taking this thing out of the shot and there's a lovely thing that
16:34it's just beautiful to watch i know someone else with a good jab and there's a little pause and
16:38then they feel a three-trinch combination it's just something really beautiful to see about it
16:42it's like you back with the shot and then they accelerate again both of them have shared a ring
16:49with the leeds warrior josh warrington who's on the comeback trail he uh wants one more big fight
16:56really warrington his uh stable mates maxi hughes and reese mold involved in the big doncaster
17:04stadium show that's may the 23rd on the zone right before we go to scotland it's a fantastic night
17:13and these two are giving us an entertaining battle it's a boxing match at times but it's gonna
17:23heat up there's gonna be some mini explosions in there i feel you know something's gonna happen but
17:28there there's a nice step that he does leave without the range i feel like he's got a punch off for that
17:33he takes a step back as he does there let your shot go let the right hand go
17:40again trying to find the upper cup room at the end of a close round
17:44the commentator's table ed hardy recently gave us some farm produce the young prospect from doncaster today
17:53garen parker was given a cigar from timo and to kakache i'm gonna explain that
17:59but i've got a gift here i'm all for it though will they be celebrating tonight the irish plenty of them
18:07packed just to our left around ringside the nottingham fans just quiet for a moment as they uh wait and watch
18:16lee wood not quite got into his groove kakache boxing very smiley here he's come out though
18:25he's written 10 leeward in this sick round
18:28he's working there from kakache and he's taking them taking the pay off wood there he's not pushing back
18:34with the shots
18:37wood the double jack this way kakache is going to go
18:40so double jack but wood's going to close the gap
18:42there's not much in this but he just looks slightly sharper
18:49kakache he punches landed just seven in it but maybe it's the freshness the momentum
18:58the fact that he's on that winning streak and wood's won his last couple back they've been a long time
19:04ago i tell you what ben davison mentioned something about in the corner he's catching on the way out
19:08and that's a worry yeah could you remember that he knocks it because you you relax you knock your
19:13head back and even though it's not a big shot it gives the impression that it is
19:17and it's always with the left hand of kakache i just feel after he takes that step back when you would
19:23just slip inside and throw your right hand you've done you don't know the hard part you've missed the
19:29heavy shot just don't get caught but just take that hit off the line throw the right hand good feet
19:34there for kakache stick and half a step back and then skip it up a distance very good feet from kakache
19:41it's almost getting better with age
19:45leeward should persist for that right hand he only missed by an inch there
19:50oh lovely work for kakache brilliant hand speed and big looping punches and wood just in a
19:57slight problem here 45 in the sixth round the upper car goes in and kakache now the natural super
20:05featherweight and the right wood is the puncher on paper not sure if that's happening in reality
20:12i'll tell you what that left hook that hit the right glove of leeward was the noise that come off of it
20:20kakache is a feint here now i think would still hurt a little feint there for that right hand
20:24that's a lovely barry that's a lovely thudding jab from kakache those long levers are really good
20:32punches on the punches and he's hurting wood here so he does exactly what i've been asking for for
20:38wood here takes a step back and he throws the counter and he walks onto it when he takes the step
20:43he needs a front foot there gives him the chance to pull back on the back leg and the power in that
20:47right hand back onto his heels and then some of those classy shots have been posted at the uppercut
20:53using that shoulder to create the space some really good quality work there from Anthony Kakachi
20:58and would have the show again in another fight his resilience and his toughness high class skills here
21:06on display in this ibo super featherweight battle remember the white and green of the home city hero leeward
21:14has got to be a chunk behind on points you feel because Anthony Kakachi is boxing really well great feet speed the jabs
21:26pinpoint and some of the shots just troubling leeward as well he needs he needs some success here quickly
21:34he hasn't been here before has he leeward this is the sort of fight he revels in this doesn't he he loves it barry but can
21:40he keep digging himself out you tend to think he's always against you but you know we've had fights
21:45before kiko martinez in this ring division those springs to mind Kyle boxed him twice and then seven
21:52years later and he was still locking people up when he thought he would pass himself like this it's an
21:55extraordinary sport it really is let's bring karl in how are you assessing things i i have at the well in
22:01front of giving leeward only one round i think he's boxing beautifully at times that last round his feet were so
22:06good and he was making lee leeward fall short and just just throwing a job really simple boxing he's
22:13making it look simple but i i think he's performed out of his skin here but lee has to get a bit closer
22:18what he's doing lee i think he's throwing a slow double jab it's not quick enough and he's just been able
22:24to step out of range and land his own job brilliant carl i think you're right i think the speed that
22:30might have carried up from featherweight is not really there i'm not sure he'll be struggling with
22:35the inactivity but i think more it's how well Anthony can catch his feet are moving and his boxing brand
22:42as he switches stances and finds shots from different angles and that jab orthodox and southboard
22:49aaron perfect yeah the variation was brilliant whether it be on the front foot or the back foot
22:54he's just that much better at the minute you know like he mounts tax better that's good work though
23:00with a right to the body though from leeward but it is next to step out of range kakachi
23:05he'll fire back absolutely the work to the body mile more effective when he walks downstairs leeward
23:12lovely there for kakachi though triple jab
23:15yeah you got to count right the double jabs the right movement it's too slow you've got to snap with
23:23the front foot or you do that double jab you're going to be a quick snap snap movement with this
23:32yeah watch the bag in the head says john lathan hasn't had to do much the referee
23:37these guys are so experienced 23 wins for kakachi 28 for leeward over long careers
23:48it's a bit better with the jab from wood but he's got to build on that
23:52yeah working well to the body with that right hand as well
23:55might see him fire the right hand over the top once he's thrown it to the body
23:59he just moves with such ease kakachi he would with a huge amount of work to do here but we've
24:09seen this before we've been here before michael connor was out boxing him and in the 12th round
24:15he was knocked out through the ring so you never know with leeward but so far so good for team kakachi
24:23he's boxed beautifully but how many times can he pull that dramatic finish out of the bag that's
24:29the question when you're in there with someone who's boxing so well like kakachi so smooth at the
24:35minute very in attack changing stars a bag of tricks at times he's countering once he takes a step back
24:43that's a good right hand that was a cut to the cheekbone as well of kakachi yeah a spot of blood
24:50for kakachi and to the nose as well and leeward will be inspired by that that right hand was decent
24:58but have we got more of it will kakachi begin to slow down and feel the super featherweight limit
25:06could wood come on here barry lee wood i don't do
25:14the thing is if he takes the foot of the gazelle kakachi allows wood any momentum he's going to
25:19he's going to struggle good body shot from kakachi only eight knockouts on his record
25:25you wouldn't have thought that against joe cordina it's deceiving man i don't know how that that's been
25:29that's what he's going to do
25:38get that defeat to martin j ward all those years ago kakachi but he's just stuck with it and he's been
25:47around world level now for a little while and there could be some more big nights to come for the
25:53belfast man but he's got to see this out lovely work there from kakachi jabbing going back there
25:59kakachi wood coming forward
26:04look at the feet though they're just all the time when they're down
26:07always grinding in and out positive on the front foot very very quick on the back
26:16those feet working beautifully look at the left one with the ring tied to his shoelace
26:23just like david haye used to do family man they both are lee wood telling his kids he doesn't
26:31want to go on too long and kakachi just catching him now
26:38looks like the inactivity has not suited lee wood yeah i mean look he done the right thing when
26:45you've been out the ring for that long it's sometimes dangerous taking a step back and trying
26:49to find your time and in your distance he's trying to grab the fight by the scruff of the neck
26:53but it is that speed of foot and hand of kakachi has made it so difficult
26:58for lee wood yeah it's all it's all kakachi's doing i think they're moving out they're feeling really good
27:03he's touched long for most parts of the fight which has made it difficult for lee wood to close the gap
27:07without running straight away
27:10but not desire as he swings from the hip and goes to the body he's not going back quietly lee wood
27:20here boxing is absolutely buzzing at the moment in britain you're watching antoni kakachi and lee wood
27:30And Lee Wood in the super featherweight division, former world champion in this weight, Barry Jones.
27:37I was thinking earlier on the way up about that humdinger between Michael Jones and Alexander.
27:43And I think he can catch him as Paul Lee Wood here in the ninth round and hurt him.
27:49And Wood shakes his head in the goals.
27:52That's where the back of the ropes, catch him up.
27:55We're going to count for that.
27:58Yeah, ropes catch him up.
27:59There's the count, and there's a long time left of the round.
28:04And Kakashi suddenly pushes his foot down, and Wood is really troubled.
28:11And left hook will get at him, it's a big shot.
28:14He's still badly hurt Lee Wood.
28:17Let's remember what how accurate he was against Joe Cordino, but he had in hurts.
28:21He doesn't miss with a shot.
28:24Kakashi has boxed so well, and now he wants the knockout.
28:29Wood standing strong, but Kakashi, with the knockdown, and again, he's just fighting the chin of Wood too easily.
28:40He looks at his corner.
28:42How much is left for the brave Nottingham man?
28:45The instinct of Lee Wood to keep fighting, it's unbelievable.
28:50Oh, my God, Lee Wood!
28:53He doesn't know how to lose Lee Wood.
28:56Oh, my love a lion.
28:58Incredible to see.
29:00And now Wood tries to come back from the Southpaw's dance.
29:06And maybe Wood wants this as a dogfight, but Kakashi seems strong.
29:14Well, what a round.
29:17Incredible.
29:17You almost expect this every time Lee Wood fights, but he looks so dangerous.
29:23Kakashi, Alpocats, he's gone!
29:25He's got it!
29:26Referee, have a look.
29:28Referee could have stepped in there.
29:30Body shot.
29:32Kakashi's on the verge here.
29:33Great decision.
29:36Oh, Ben Davison.
29:37Anthony Kakashi stops Lee Wood.
29:41And silences Denalihan Proud.
29:43It was a brilliant decision for Team Wood to get their man out of there
29:48because he was brave beyond, but what a win.
29:53What a performance from Anthony Kakashi.
29:56He's done Joe Cordina, Josh Warrington, and now Lee Wood.
30:01This is one of the best fighters in the world.
30:04Incredible.
30:05The form of this man is remarkable.
30:08Ladies and gentlemen, here is the official time.
30:13Two minutes, 15 seconds of round number nine.
30:15The red corner retires their fighter,
30:19and our referee in charge, John Latham, accepts their retirement.
30:24Therefore, your winner by way of technical knockout,
30:28and still IBO Super Featherweight Champion of the World,
30:36Anthony, the Andy Town Apache, Kakashi!
