00:00India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire following weeks of tension over the disputed region of Kashmir.
00:08Both sides confirmed the de-escalation on Saturday afternoon, agreeing to stop all firing from air, ground and sea.
00:15The truce agreements brokered by the United States, Saudi Arabia and Turkey come after a fourth day of strikes and counter-strikes against military installations.
00:25Let's talk now to our correspondent in Delhi, Ravinder Bauer.
00:28Ravinder, what is the Indian government saying?
00:35Well, this has come as a good news, especially for those Indians who are living on the north, in the northwestern border areas,
00:42who have been bearing the brunt of this fight between the two countries in the last four days.
00:49High octane combat with, you know, modern weaponry.
00:53And now the reactions which are coming in from these areas are that people are all, you know, sharing the same sentiment that nobody wants war.
01:02And people should say the country should sit across the table and discuss the issues and trash them out.
01:08So that's what the information coming from the border areas.
01:12People are happy that the ceasefire has happened.
01:15On the other hand, what we have seen that the external affairs minister has tweeted immediately after this announcement was made,
01:21in which he said, and I would like to quote here,
01:24So this last line is important to see that India's stance will continue to be the same,
01:46that any act of terror will be considered as an act of war.
01:50That is the message which India is trying to send.
01:52But at the same time, in 48 hours, the two sides will be back on the table.
01:57Till then, the biggest challenge will be to implement the ceasefire on the ground,
02:01while both the, you know, defense forces on both the sides are on high alert during these 48 hours.
02:07But definitely all eyes now on the 12th of May,
02:09when two sides sit across the table and trash out the issues with people of both the countries want the leaders to do.
02:17Paul.
02:18Ravinder, many thanks for that.
02:19That's Ravinder Bauer, our correspondent in Delhi.
02:22Well, let's get the view now from Pakistan and our Islamabad correspondent, Daniel Khan.
02:26So what are officials there saying now, Daniel?
02:32Well, Paul, until just last night, the situation was highly unpredictable,
02:36with tensions between India and Pakistan reaching levels not seen in recent history.
02:41But in a dramatic turn, diplomacy appears to have prevailed,
02:44and the immediate threat of war has been averted.
02:47Now, Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar,
02:52has confirmed the development on social media,
02:55stating that Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect.
03:01Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region,
03:06without compromising on its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
03:11While this marks a potential diplomatic breakthrough,
03:14an official statement is still awaited from Pakistan's highest offices,
03:19including President Zardari, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, or the military.
03:24For now, the guns have fallen silent.
03:27But observers say the real test will be whether the ceasefire holds
03:31and whether it leads to a long-term path toward stability in the whole region.
