00:00And you said there it was a surprise, but how can Pope Leo balance his national identity
00:06as a U.S. citizen with the universal nature of being the Pope?
00:12As you said, the U.S. is very political, and you didn't expect this.
00:17It's amazing how the politics of the United States is now intertwining with the Vatican.
00:23Pope Francis, his very last formal audience, was with Vice President J.D. Vance
00:28and with his family.
00:30And there was this back and forth between the Vice President of the United States and the Pope
00:34that began even just before the Pope fell sick.
00:38And it was amazing is that J.D. Vance actually quoted a Latin text that is from St. Augustine,
00:45who lived around the year 400.
00:48And the Pope engaged him also on his Latin text.
00:51And now we have an Augustinian father who is Pope, and he's an American,
00:55who has been criticizing the Vice President and has been challenging Trump's administration,
01:01especially with respect to their immigration policy.
01:05But what's interesting is there's also a lot of common convictions between the Trump administration
01:10and Pope Leo.
01:11These common convictions, for instance, have to do with his very clear condemnation of socialism
01:16and of communism, any form of collectivism, and also his condemnation of gender ideology,
01:23his defense of human life and his defense of the family.
