00:00It was interesting when he was in, I think, first grade.
00:04One of the neighborhood ladies across the street said to him,
00:07you will be the first American pope.
00:09She knew that, she sensed that at six years old.
00:12How she did that, who knows.
00:16I got the phone call that there was white smoke coming out of the chimney in Rome,
00:20so I went downstairs, turned on the television,
00:23and watched the proceedings going on.
00:27I called my niece to let her know there was white smoke coming out,
00:31and we watched together, and then we saw the curtains move,
00:34and then we saw the cardinal come out and announce who the pope was.
00:38She started screaming because it was her uncle,
00:42and I was in the moment of disbelief that this cannot be possible
00:45because it's too far from what we thought would happen.
00:52So I was in a period of disbelief, and then as he came out to talk,
00:55then we knew this was real.
00:57And I guess a sense of tremendous pride came over me,
01:02but then also, how's he going to handle this?
01:05Not only the sense of pride, but the huge responsibility
01:08that now is on his shoulders.
01:10.
01:23.
01:27.
