00:00I'm just making a mess here, but we're committed to the bit.
00:03What's gonna happen with the Merchant Gold?
00:05Did they ever go back to excavate El Dorado?
00:07We finally did it.
00:10We finally found the gold.
00:12Well, that is a very valid question,
00:14and if I told you right now, I would probably get in trouble.
00:17I will say that you will get that answer in season four of Outer Banks,
00:21so make sure you go watch it.
00:22So I'm gonna throw that one to the wayside.
00:30Hello, I'm Chase Stokes, and I am answering fan mail from Outer Banks fans.
00:35Let's dive in. Let's see what we got today.
00:38Rewatching Outer Banks, and I'm still mad John B. wasn't consoling Sarah
00:41when Ward was blown up on the druthers.
00:44Crying face, crying face, crying face. Also the emoji.
00:48You let her ex do it. I know you hate him, but come on.
00:51Well, Shama, you're not wrong.
00:53I think John B. kind of dropped the ball on that one,
00:55but I also don't think he knew that Topper was going to randomly appear
00:59in the background and run in Consult Sarah.
01:01So two things can be true, I guess, in that space.
01:04But yeah, we're gonna move on.
01:05Next step.
01:06What, in your opinion, would be the absolute worst way to end the show?
01:11Ooh.
01:12I think for the Pogues not to find some form of happiness.
01:17I think if they just ended up being sad and miserable
01:20and never getting any financial compensation
01:23for all these insane treasures they've chased over the years,
01:26that would probably suck.
01:28Oh my God!
01:34Hopefully, and I don't know, but hopefully our writers don't do that
01:39to these sweet, sweet human beings.
01:41So, we'll see.
01:43Next.
01:44Recently, my dad, who was 85, was telling me about a show he was watching.
01:48Last year, he had a stroke, so it took me a little while to figure out it was OBX.
01:52Keep doing what you're doing.
01:53It's resonating with all ages.
01:55From the user, the Tales of the Three Amigos on TikTok.
02:00I love hearing stories like this.
02:02I think whenever you set out to make anything, you hope that it resonates with some people.
02:08But when you kind of get the feedback that it's dads and their sons and moms and their daughters,
02:14or mothers and sons, and every single area that it's hitting, it's kind of a beautiful thing.
02:20So, I'm sorry about the stroke, but I'm glad you enjoyed the show.
02:25I'm going to put this one in my pocket.
02:27That's a keeper, for sure.
02:29Next up.
02:30This one says, I didn't like Big John until the last 20 minutes of the last episode.
02:34That is from Leah Corona on TikTok.
02:36Well, I think that most of the world would probably agree with you.
02:40Got to be honest, he wasn't the greatest dad, you know?
02:43But then he does redeem himself.
02:44That is true.
02:45You know, he kind of tells his son that he's the gold he always wanted, so.
02:49You are the best son any man could hope for.
02:54Big John, you did your best, but it wasn't really the best.
02:58But that's okay.
02:59Live and learn.
03:00Or he died, so never mind.
03:03Ooh, we've got a bingo card.
03:06Reddit user Ohanan compiled a bingo card of OBX's most used and cliched story beats slash plot points.
03:15This is incredible.
03:16Car chase scene, for starters.
03:18Seriously?
03:19What is he doing?
03:21We do have a few of those.
03:23Or boat scenes.
03:24Yeah, we've got a lot of boat chases.
03:26Cops slash bad guys don't know how to aim.
03:28Pogues come out of every shootout unscathed.
03:32Hayward being the best parent in the show, that is absolutely true.
03:35Climbing over gates and walls.
03:37Wow, I've never thought about that.
03:39But yeah, we do climb over a lot of walls.
03:43Pogues making stupid decisions, which also kind of goes hand in hand with this other one,
03:47which is J.J. comes up with a horrible, reckless plan.
03:50Give me the keys.
03:51No, dude.
03:52No, no, no, no, no.
03:53Give me the keys right now.
03:54Okay, that doesn't seem like a really good idea right now, J.J.
03:55Yeah.
03:56Yeah.
03:57I think season four, you might see a version of plans coming to fruition in a better way.
04:02So maybe, maybe we're setting you up for something.
04:07Maybe.
04:08I'm actually gonna send that to our writers so they can have a little look at it and get a little laugh.
04:14What else we got?
04:15It was kind of poetic for both John B. and Sarah's dads to die together.
04:19They were men who were overtaken by greed and they sacrificed themselves in the end for what truly mattered to them.
04:25This is from Robbie1863 on Reddit.
04:28It is very poetic, Robbie1863 on Reddit.
04:30I think that sometimes when you chase the wrong things in life, it'll lead you down the wrong path.
04:36Next step is, hold on.
04:38This is, this is deep.
04:39Mr. Sun is a villain theory.
04:42I'm blown away at this.
04:44Okay.
04:45He seems like he knew too much about what was going on with the Pogues.
04:48I know he's a history teacher so it makes sense that he might have the diary, but giving it to the Pogues.
04:53Careful with that.
04:55It just seems reckless and a diary as valuable as that is not something a teacher would give his students.
05:01If Mr. Sun is a villain, I will, I don't know what I'll do.
05:06I think I might cry because it's such a great character and I personally thought he was just a sweet human being who was trying to help these kids find their way in life, but this changes everything.
05:19Wow.
05:20Wow.
05:21That just threw me for a loop a little bit.
05:23Okay.
05:24Let's see what we got here.
05:25What is your favorite scene you filmed as John B?
05:27I really think it's still to this day the first scene that I shot and it was with Peterkin, Sheriff Peterkin.
05:33God rest her soul.
05:34Season one.
05:35I admired her as an actress prior to even getting the job.
05:39All I'm worried about right now is making sure you're in a safe home.
05:42Yeah, super safe.
05:44Super sound, sturdy, you know what I mean?
05:46And they kind of threw me into the fire with such an established incredible actress on my very first day on the show.
05:52And she made me feel so safe.
05:54And she gave me so much good advice on how to be a part of a long running show and her experiences before cameras even rolled.
06:03So I think that was something that really allowed me to settle in even in that first take and in that first scene to feeling somewhat confident to play this character.
06:13It's just kind of a core memory.
06:14Like it's a beautiful way to start the show and even when I'm not feeling super secure in myself or I leave work and I'm not super loving the performance I gave that day.
06:23I still kind of always go back to that.
06:25So that was a great question.
06:27It's been a lot of scenes.
06:29Joey King, Chase Stokes, Keith Powers, and Brianne Chu to star in Hashtag Uglies, All of My Favorite People in One Film from K. Maldo on X.
06:38I am very, very proud to be a part of that film.
06:41It kind of talks about sort of the ways that people identify their physical selves as sort of their definition of who they are.
06:53And I think in society we're so obsessive over our physical features that we forget about the internal parts of our self.
07:00The whole cast and the whole experience of making this movie, we started as strangers and it really quickly turned to family.
07:05You know, we have a very active group chat that has stayed consistent since we started filming, which is the longest consistent group chat that I think I have in my life right now.
07:13So it's a really cool film and it's based on a best-selling novel written by Scott Westerfield.
07:17It's just a badass young girl's hero's journey and I'm really, really excited to be a part of that.
07:24What I really liked about working in the sci-fi space was it was just so drastically different from Outer Banks.
07:30We also shoot a lot of exteriors on the show in Charleston, South Carolina, and it's hot. It's so hot all the time.
07:37So a soundstage with air conditioning was such a nice change of pace.
07:42But I think it's just fun as an actor to dive in a different world.
07:46So for me, this is sort of my first departure from Outer Banks and John B.
07:50So it was really cool to play a character that was so vastly different.
07:54The final fan mail.
08:01Who's worse? Big John Luke Erward by Chemical Speech on Reddit.
08:06You know what? D all the above. They all suck.
08:09So I'm going to say all of them. All of them. All of them. Bad dads.
08:19I'm in a mess. But that's okay.
08:22Well, I gotta be honest. I learned more about the show today than I have in the last six years.
08:27That's totally a joke. But Outer Banks is now streaming on Netflix.
08:31I like that you guys added Stapler. Did you guys ever do that when you were kids in high school?
08:35You would like pull it out and shoot them at your friends.
08:40Yeah. Looking back, that was never really a good idea.
08:43Yeah.
08:45I like it here.
08:46Yeah.
08:48Yeah.
08:49Well, I agree with that.
08:50Thank you, Michael.
08:51It's all right.
08:52Yeah.
08:53Yeah.
08:54Yeah.
08:55Yeah.
08:56Yeah.
08:57Yeah.
08:58Yeah.
08:59Yeah.
09:00Yeah.
09:01Yeah.
09:02Yeah.
09:03Yeah.
09:04Yeah.
