00:00Who has the European Commission had meetings with since the beginning of its new mandate?
00:08EU lobby groups held around 5,813 meetings between the beginning of the new Commission
00:15mandate in December 2024 and the start of April this year. At least a third of all
00:21disclosed meetings addressed subjects related to the EU's climate agenda. Simplification
00:26and competitiveness topped the list of most popular subjects for climate related meetings
00:32with 421 meetings mentioning one or the other or both. By contrast the Green Deal as a subject has
00:39disappeared from the EU's lobbying landscape with 21 meetings specifically mentioning the EU's
00:46landmark climate package. Agriculture, automobiles, chemicals, big tech and finance dominate meetings
00:52with the European Commission. Nearly 37% of the Commission meetings were with companies and
00:58groups while almost 30% were with trade and business associations. Meanwhile only 16% of all meetings
01:05were with NGOs. European farmers had 34 meetings. This is followed by the lobby groups European
01:11Automobile Manufacturers Association and Business Europe both with 29 meetings each. Transparency
01:18international EU experts claim that lack of balanced stakeholder access could lead to policy capture
01:25where the Commission only caters to the interests of a select group of organizations.
