Amid rising tensions along the northern and western borders with Pakistan, the Ministry of Defence has granted the Chief of the Army Staff extended powers to mobilise the entire Territorial Army (TA) for essential duties and deployment. This move aims to enhance readiness and operational flexibility.
Transcript
00:00The Modi government has empowered the army chief to exercise powers of
00:03calling out every officer, every enrolled person of the territorial army
00:08to provide for essential guard or to be embodied for the purpose of supporting
00:13or supplementing the regular army. So this is big breaking news.
00:17All power given to the army chief to go ahead and call every officer
00:21and also any person of the territorial army to be deployed and to help
00:27the Indian army in this time of conflict.
00:31Considering what we've been seeing along the border and along the entire stretch
00:35of the states that are bordering with Pakistan, this power has been given to the army chief
00:40that if he feels the need for more deployment, more personnel, more boots on the ground,
00:44he can go ahead and take that decision.
00:46Shivani Sharma is joining us with more details on this important decision
00:50that's been taken by the Modi government, Shivani, and clearly this is a step
00:53to ensure that there is a free hand given to the forces, which the Prime Minister
00:57has repeatedly said, that our forces have complete freedom to retaliate
01:01in any manner they want to Pakistan, add to it also to ensure adequate deployment.
01:09Absolutely, Akshita, as the Indian armed forces are all set to give a befitting response
01:15to the escalations from Pakistan, they are preparing with the additional strength on ground,
01:21the boots on ground, as you were saying. And this is a notification that is now authorizing
01:25the chief of army staff to recall the territorial army personnel for supplementary duties
01:31or wherever they can contribute in the time of operational action that's going on,
01:37especially on the western border. But these deployments will be across the country
01:41in all seven plus the ATAC. So all these commands will be now having additional territorial army officers
01:50who will be contributing to these commands while the operational officers, they will be moving
01:56towards the borders if required and as in when these operations are called for, the territorial army
02:05personnel can contribute. And these are the orders for 14 out of 32 of these territorial army regiments
02:14which have been now given. So the chief of army staff has been now authorized for recalling
02:20these officers. And this order is for three years. So this is the authorization, the power which has been
02:27given to the chief of army staff because we know the situation has been escalating and Indian army
02:34is prepared with all its strength on ground. Akshita.
02:37All right, Shivani, do stay on with me. Shivani has been tracking all the latest updates that have been
02:44doing communications that have been going out from the government as well.
