00:00No one in America can pick up a chainsaw now without thinking of Leatherface and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
00:08The rumor back then was that it was true, like it was basically a documentary.
00:13I remember the first time I watched it.
00:15We expected to see, you know, a horror film, but not that horror.
00:19You wondered what was behind that mask.
00:21Leatherface.
00:22Still run around up and down them Texas hills.
00:25Nobody really met him or saw him in costume until they, you know, first encountered him.
00:33Really, all he wanted a cast to do was be scared when they saw him.
00:36O-M-G.
00:38Toby asked me if I were crazy.
00:40Gunnar Hansen actually went to a home for mentally challenged people and the disabled.
00:44It wasn't just a simple thing for him of just throwing on a mask and running around going,
00:48And he pretty much came up with most of what he did on his own.
00:52You get an idea, this is kind of what we want to see, but it requires the actor to bring it to life and give it its quality.
00:59There's only one original guy that set the tone.
01:02The one that got me back into movies was called...
01:07Hollywood Chainsaw Strippers?
01:09I think it was Texas Chainsaw Hookers.
01:11Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers.
01:13That's what Leatherface looks like.
01:14I mean, a lot of the roles he got traded in on his notoriety as Leatherface.
01:18Gunnar Hansen with a chainsaw cutting a mosquito.
01:22I'm in.
01:22As soon as they see that the original Leatherface is in it, they immediately pay attention to it.
01:27Most of the films I've worked on have been with people who, they really are passionate about doing their movie.
01:33They haven't learned yet to lie to you.
01:35Tony Timpone, who was the editor of Fangoria Magazine at the time, kind of convinced Gunnar that he should be, you know, going to cons and signing autographs.
01:43And he was kind of a little reluctant at first.
01:45He interacted very well with his fans and with people.
01:49He really was just such a class act.
01:51People would walk away so happy, man.
01:54Just, man, Leatherface, he was such a great guy.
01:57As an entertainer, that's all you ever hope to do, is be remembered.
