00:00So what else is new? The country posted a 5.4% GDP growth for the first time in the first three months of the year,
00:09showing a solid consistency held over the last 15 years.
00:13This despite headwinds of global market, worries over uncertainty of America's pivot to heightened tariff rates,
00:21and a looping recession, fluctuating oil prices, and stubborn and thorny domestic inflation,
00:27which the government has successfully reigned in thus far.
00:31Then again, the latest GDP growth posted pales against last year's mark of half a percentage point,
00:38more for the same period as we hear more from Christian Bascones.
00:46The Philippine economy grew in the first quarter of 2025.
00:50More businesses expanded, more jobs were created, and more Filipinos earned a decent income.
00:56The 5.4% growth in gross domestic product, or GDP, means a more active economy,
01:03more goods and services, and wider opportunities for all.
01:07The Philippines rung second among the fastest-growing economies in Asia,
01:11matching China and outpacing Indonesia and Malaysia.
01:14The economy strengthened due to a surge in tourism, rising consumer or domestic spending,
01:20and continued infrastructure projects under the Build Better More program.
01:24Domestic demand remained a key pillar of growth, expanding by 6.7%, up from 5.4% in the previous quarter,
01:35easing food inflation-supported household final consumption, which grew by 5.3%.
01:41For ordinary Filipinos, this growth translates to more jobs, better services, and more secure future.
01:47All these gains are the result of the strong and prudent leadership of President Ferdinand R. Marcus Jr.,
01:54who continues to guide the economy toward a faster and more inclusive type of development.
01:59The drop in prices of essential goods like rice, a result of government programs,
02:04is a big relief for every Filipino family.
02:35With the administration's continued focus on the economy and public service,
02:39more Filipinos can expect to benefit from the nation's progress.
02:44Ang gusto talaga namin is to really have, to really carve a niche, no?
02:50Dito sa AI landscape, no?
02:54But, of course, there's still a lot that we need to do.
02:58Pero we think that we're not really starting from scratch, no?
03:01Kasi marami na rin naman tayo in terms of the manpower.
03:05We just need to upskill pa rin yung sa AI natin.
03:09Christian Bascones from the National TV Network for a new and better Philippines.
