00:00Two, and one!
00:04The Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry, METI, will engage more aviation companies in strategic partnerships to bolster Malaysia's aerospace capabilities.
00:14METI Deputy Secretary General for Industry, Datuk Hanafi Sakri, described the collaboration as a key milestone in Malaysia's ambition to become a global aerospace powerhouse.
00:25Today's launch is not just about celebrating a new facility. It is about laying the foundation for Malaysia's aviation's future.
00:35It is about ensuring sustainability, competitiveness and resilience in the dynamic global industry.
00:44At the launch of a new aircraft maintenance facility by Deviation Group and Japan's Marubeni Corporation on Thursday,
00:51Hanafi also addressed rising concerns over US tariff hikes, revealing that METI is in discussions with US authorities to secure exemptions for Malaysia's aerospace sector.
01:04If possible, definitely everything is in the decision yet.
01:10But it depends on critical What we believe is that when we have a food tax year, the U.S. will be mentioned to the clients based on the path of unsere trade.
01:19So, I believe that in negotiations that one of the key things is to be excluded from our trade.
01:28That's one of the strategies of the Kerajaan to ensure that the sector is competitive and that Malaysia can continue to make the decisions in this industry.
01:38Meanwhile, Deviation Group Managing Director Kevin Teo highlighted the environmental and operational benefits of timely aircraft maintenance.
01:48So decarbonizing and maintenance itself is essentially very simple.
01:52For example, if you don't service your car regularly on time, the maintenance costs will go up.
01:57So similarly for aircraft maintenance, for engines and aircraft maintenance as well, it's the same concept.
02:02So if we continue to extend or delay aircraft maintenance services or it's not done to the optimum level as per manufacturer's structure,
02:11then you will see a degradation in performance.
02:15Teo added that Malaysia is well-positioned to become a regional hub for aircraft maintenance,
02:21citing the country's skilled workforce, accessible resources and strong ecosystem of local and international industry players.
02:29KMRO, a joint venture between Deviation Group and Marubeni, currently operates at 10% capacity and aims to service up to 30 aircraft by year-end.
