00:00Hour number three continues to roll along and we cover everything and I mean everything from the PGA Tour to horse racing to the NBA.
00:08A lot of fun, a lot of laughs and a lot of great information.
00:10Donnie Wrightside joined along with Joe Ranieri and now Keith Stewart, a resident PGA professional, joins us for the show to get us caught up.
00:17Keith, how are we feeling today?
00:19I'm feeling fantastic down here, Donnie.
00:22I've slept in my own bed last night.
00:24We're in Philadelphia.
00:25Quick commute from New Jersey.
00:26I tell you what, the truest championship, I've already been around the property this morning.
00:31The Philly fans are showing up.
00:32They don't see the PGA Tour every week.
00:34Rory's here.
00:35Let's have at it.
00:37Now, if we start here, Keith, with Scotty Scheffler to get involved, even though we don't have him in this tournament here, what he did last week?
00:45I mean, like, did he birdie every hole?
00:47Did I miss something here, Keith?
00:48Like, Scotty Scheffler on an absolute mission and also, why isn't Scotty Scheffler here for the truest?
00:52Come on now, Scotty.
00:53Hey, DRS, that was the first question that was on my mind, was that if Scotty's on a heater, I mean, next week at Quail Hollow, he doesn't play there a bunch.
01:03He's only played there once, and that was in the 2022 President's Cup.
01:06I mean, if I was him, the guy had 40 birdie chances, and, you know, he had, what, three eagles and 29 birdies or something like that in 72 holes?
01:16It's insane.
01:16I mean, he lapped the field, and it was a field he should have lapped, and what the real storyline here is, Donnie and Joe, is the fact that we're heading into the PGA Championship.
01:25Rory's on a heater.
01:27Scotty's on a heater.
01:28Somebody's coming out of this signature win.
01:30They're going to be talked about.
01:32If it's Jordan Spieth, God forgive us all.
01:34He's going into a career grand slam opportunity at Quail Hollow.
01:38It's going to be insane next week, and I think, you know, this week, again, I think the Philly fans are going to show up, and it's going to create quite some theater down here at the Wissahickon course.
01:48So, yeah, I was going to say, tell me about this course here, because I know what, what, it's the oldest country club in the United States here.
01:55They've gone through some renovations.
01:57What is this course, and what are we looking at here?
02:01Well, Joe, it's the oldest established country club in the United States.
02:05They have the longest waiting list.
02:06That's why you and I are both still on it, but you know what?
02:09It's a par 70, 7,100 yards, which is going to be short for these guys' standards, and when they had to do some rerouting, because this is a signature event, you've got Rory, Ludwig, Jordan, you know, all the guys are here, Xander.
02:21So, they've moved some of the holes around.
02:23You've got to pay real attention to the scorecard.
02:25It's going to be totally different this week, but it is a classic-style golf course, and unfortunately, when it was designed, most of the carry distances on those dog legs,
02:34the cross bunkers are right around 300 or 305 yards.
02:39Rory said it this morning in his press conference.
02:41He goes, if you can carry it 310, you're going to avoid a lot of trouble, so I think I'm just going to send it off every tee.
02:48Distance always wins.
02:50We love to see that also.
02:51Let's get some of these Keith's keys out here.
02:53Rory's in there.
02:53Collins in here.
02:54Xander's out here.
02:55A lot of big names in this tournament.
02:57How do some of these players factor into this-style golf course, Keith?
03:00All right, well, I just gave you a preview of the first key, which is drive for show.
03:05The second one is putt for dough.
03:06Anytime you have 72 rookies and there's 72 players in the field, go to a brand-new venue, the putter always translates.
03:15So, Keith, key number one, drive for show.
03:17Number two, putt for dough.
03:19And then the other thing is that this golf course, back then, you didn't have a lot of ways with which to try to create some sort of challenge.
03:27So, what you see is 118 bunkers on this golf course.
03:31Joe, 60 of them are greenside, and that's the biggest challenge these guys are going to face.
03:36So, those are my three keys.
03:37When you look at the top of the board, you've got Rory, a perfect setup for him.
03:42Xander needs a win going into defending next week.
03:45And there's some other guys that are pretty hot that have been playing well, like a JT.
03:49And I believe, too, if I'm not mistaken, right, Justin Rose is in this also here.
03:56Do you expect him, probably a big number, do you expect him to show up at a course like this?
04:02Justin Rose this morning around 65 to 1.
04:05Hey, the PGA Tour doesn't come to Philadelphia very often.
04:09When they do, Justin Rose wins.
04:11He won at Aaron Mc back in 2010, and he won the U.S. Open here at Marion in 2013.
04:16Joe, it's a great grab further down the board.
04:18For me, my early leans on the early line today, number one, I am ready to ride the roller coaster.
04:24Jordan Spieth, plus 2,800, four straight top 20s, and he looked fantastic.
04:30The approach game is back.
04:32This type of place, the creativity you're going to need around the greens to score.
04:36Hey, guys, the Vegas over-under on the final score is 19.5 under par.
04:39You're going to need to make some birdies.
04:41We know Jordan can do it.
04:42And the second guy, Captain Keegan.
04:44Now, this Wissahick and golf course, it is designed by A.W. Tillinghast.
04:49He also did Bethpage Black.
04:51You know Captain Keegan's going to be fired up.
04:53He's a Northeast guy.
04:55Northeast golf course.
04:56He'll be used to the agronomy, and he can go deep.
04:58Remember a couple years of the Travelers ago when he won at 20 under par?
05:02You know he can do it here as well.
05:05Ah, love to hear it here.
05:06Great, beautiful golf course in the city of brotherly love out there for the truest championship.
05:12Keith, bring in all the heat that we needed today.
05:14And, May, those tickets cashed in your pocket out there.
05:18Thanks, Keith, for joining us this morning.
