07:38This is Comic Madness. I've been building my Captain America collection for about 20 years. So if you'd like to see any of it, come on in.
08:15These were made out of metal and right now I think the cheapest of them goes probably about $700. Some of them go up to about $2500 since they're about 60 something years old.
08:28You have an artificial face, that Captain Action. That's right. It's Captain Action underneath. Doesn't look too much different, but he was the master of disguise.
08:45Yeah. And if you live in a small apartment, Captain Action is a good toy for you.
08:50That's right. You don't have a lot of storage.
08:52The well-loved Mego guy. Yeah, the Mego, that's one of the most popular lines in action figures. This one obviously has been run through the mill, but it has the original boots and shield.
09:07He didn't come with gloves, did he? Some versions did. Oh, they did? Yeah. This one. They did a couple different head sculpts. This is the only thing. Reproduction star.
09:22Okay, I won't tell. So this Captain America figure is from the early 80s. That's one of the first figures that I had. Is that a Secret Wars? Secret Wars Captain America. As you can tell, the paint has rubbed off due to excessive wear.
09:44I guess aside from the Randy Bowen set there, this would be the rarest item that I have. It's a bronze-looking bust of Captain America, well, Steve Rogers in his army gear.
10:02And it's signed and numbered by Randy Bowen out of 60 pieces. Historically, this is an interesting piece for the character, just because he's not Captain America. He's dressed as the captain there.
10:21Back in the mid-80s, Captain America quit doing the superhero thing because the government wanted to do, you know, to control him and that. So he renounced the American colored garb and still kept the crime fighting going on.
10:40So this was still Steve Rogers, but in a different outfit?
10:42Right. So he was just called the Captain there. And another character took that over later called U.S. Agent, but that wasn't Steve Rogers.
10:51And some of the better items, which I cannot get to recognize.
10:57Okay. Well, I'll zoom in on it.
10:58For one, the Alex Ross life-size bust. Kind of eerie looking, the realism of it, but a really nice piece. Alex Ross is a famous painter and he sculpted that and did the design for that one.
11:16And then the two bookend statues there. One of Captain America in his current garb and the second one of the Golden Age version with the triangular shield from World War II.
11:30That probably is my best item from the set. It's a signed and numbered set by the sculptor Randy Bowen. I think there was only 50 or 100 sets produced worldwide.
11:42The other extreme would be some items such as these two of my favorite items produced in the early 90s just for the sheer goofiness of them.
11:58You have the Captain America sneaker snappers, which you can put on your shoelaces, or even better, the Captain America head button fighters, which you attach to your buttons on your colored shirts and apparently makes you super cool.
12:14These were made in 2001. And one of the buttons, he can have a super villain beating action. This is from 1968, the Marx Corporation.
12:30The Walker, the Walker, the Walker. Yeah, he twists and twists. He doesn't work that well on this type of area, but he spins around. It's dizzy.
12:42Maybe that's when he's getting ready to throw a shield. It's in the discus action there.
12:47the captain america airplane which uh who knows when that came about uh another favorite is the
12:59captain america monster truck i think that says a lot about
13:03what's the america how can you live without that i don't know if you got a shot with the shield
13:12but that's another one of the better items a lot of people have been waiting a good number
13:17of years for a similar item where that red skull come from in the middle oh that one up there right
13:25here right here oh this guy yeah that's part of the marvel famous covers line from a couple years ago
13:32he's pretty mean looking yeah uh they didn't put the swastika on the armband i guess they felt that
13:39wasn't appropriate so he's just kind of part of a jumpsuit gang now
13:45this bust is of the new ultimate version of captain america but there's a resemblance to the serial
13:56version the fact that he doesn't have the uh wings on his head and then his girlfriend in the serial
14:02was the same character in the ultimate version uh gail richards i guess have you noticed any other
14:10influences uh from the serial in any of the comics that maybe we wouldn't know about i think his
14:17attitude uh his demeanor has gone back to that where he was tougher you know no nonsense uh he doesn't
14:26carry a gun but he's still back in the 70s and 80s they made him a little more uh too nice for his own
14:36good i think he's always been dealing with terrorist organizations like aim and hydra uh but they've
14:43always been goofy you know green and purple and yellow brightly colored costumes and not nowadays they
14:50have uh they're allowed to deal with the more extreme elements of it they're not you know using
14:56laser guns and spaceships they're real terrorists all these things that you have bought and collected
15:04for years and years they're prominently featured in your store right and i know i noticed them when i
15:10came in the first time i said this guy's a prime captain america collector and he's got a really nice
15:15collection you must be proud of it sure can you put into words what it is you admire about captain
15:20america that's a good question i think it is the character like you said not so much uh his comic
15:27books i think just because of the uh what he stands for not necessarily uh the government in america
15:35but you know the ideals and always protecting the defenseless uh his shield that he carries it's not
15:44necessarily an offensive weapon it can be but he's more into protecting i think that's pretty cool is
15:52different than a lot of the other guys who you know just trying to kill everyone yeah and it's not just america
15:59he's trying to protect but anywhere in the world all life is sacred and he'll do what it takes to uh protect them i guess
16:07so does he work for george bush now or not he's sanctioned by the u.s government
16:13and his team the avengers so they work with the u.s but i wouldn't say that he's his lap dog or anything
16:22like that so he has a degree of independence definitely as as well he should right correct
16:27okay well i thank you wade for taking the time to show us at the serial squadron your fabulous
16:33collection all right and i wish you luck in your collection in the future and i hope you enjoy
16:39the captain america dvd which is this soon this is soon to be part of looking forward to it thanks again
