The European health workforce faces a severe crisis. Rapidly aging EU countries have an estimated shortage of some 1.2 million doctors, nurses and midwives. Lack of nurses is especially significant. Our reporter Julián López Gómez travelled to Bulgaria, one of the countries most affected.

02:32Elsa es una de las 144 enfermeras de este gran hospital estatal.
02:42El año pasado ingresaron aquí unos 13.000 pacientes.
02:46Elsa trabaja en la unidad de ortopedia.

02:55de al menos dos enfermeras por médico
02:57considerada por profesionales sanitarios
