A 44-year-old trader claimed trial in the Magistrate's Court in Seremban on Wednesday (May 7) to a reckless driving charge which led to the death of a 20-year-old motorcyclist.

P. Mohan pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to him before magistrate Nurul Farha Sulaiman.

00:28He was charged under Section 41, subsection 1 of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries
00:36a jail term of between 5 and 10 years and a fine of between 20,000 ringgit and 50,000 ringgit
00:42upon conviction.
00:43Those convicted will also be barred from holding a driver's license for a minimum of five years.
00:49Deputy Public Prosecutor Nadia Ezati Mohamed Zainal asked for bail to be set at 15,000 ringgit
00:55with one surety.
00:56Mohan's counsel, Rajandar Singh, asked for a lower amount of 15,000 ringgit, as the accused
01:02earns less than 3,500 ringgit a month and has to provide for his two children who are still
01:08studying.
01:09The court set bail at 7,000 ringgit with one surety and ordered the accused's license to
01:16be suspended till the case is disposed of.
