00:09Are you fired up and ready to go?
00:13All right.
00:14Can you imagine this?
00:17An administration not understanding
00:20that there are over 70 million Americans
00:24who rely on Social Security.
00:26For more than 40% of them,
00:31it's the only benefit that they have.
00:37For 5 million of our fellow Americans,
00:425 million,
00:45they get below-poverty-level checks
00:48from the wealthiest nation in the world
00:51and the most incredible insurance program in our history.
00:56It's time this ends.
01:01We not only have to stop Social Security being cut,
01:06we have to expand it for the first time
01:09in more than 50 years.
01:12The last time Social Security's COLA was affected
01:18in an effective manner was 1971.
01:22Richard Nixon was President of the United States.
01:26We're far beyond that.
01:29Thank God that the senators here,
01:31and I just saw Chris Van Hollen come in,
01:33are standing and fighting every single day
01:37to make sure that this doesn't happen
01:40and drive the message home
01:42to the American people
01:45just how important this is
01:49to every single family
01:52in the United States of America.
01:55It's an honor to be here this afternoon
01:57and stand with Nancy Altman
01:59and Social Security Works
02:01and the job that they have been doing
02:03for decades
02:05to make sure
02:11that the greatest insurance program
02:15in the history of the country
02:17remains strong and vibrant
02:20and helping out the very people
02:24that Franklin Delano Roosevelt intended it to.
