00:00Added funds are set to be applied into the delayed railway station project in Leeds which could see it completed almost three years later than originally planned.
00:11The White Rose Rail Station scheme is reported to be around 70% finished, even despite the whole ÂŁ26.5 million budget having already been spent.
00:22Work on the station was originally halted due to rising costs.
00:27But West Yorkshire combined authority leaders are thought to agree to more cash for the scheme.
00:33The WYCA said that the sum, which is yet to be disclosed, could see the new station be opened by January 2027.
00:41West Yorkshire Mayor Tracey Braben said she wants to see the station open to passengers as soon as possible,
00:48as it's hoped that the transport link could improve connectivity to South Leeds,
00:53as well as attracting significant investment and act as a catalyst for the area's regeneration.
00:59Mayor Tracey Braben also went on to say that if the extra funding for the scheme was agreed,
01:04it would represent a major step towards resuming construction as we work with both the Department for Transport and Network Rail.
01:13A report also warned of the potential impact on the Trans-Pennine Route upgrade,
01:18designed to provide better rail links between towns and cities in the north of England.
01:22The report added that it's understood that the current status of the station
01:27and the potential timescales associated with the project completion represent a significant risk to the TRU scheme in the area of Cottingley Station.
01:36But it's hoped that the White Rose Station opening in 2027 would mitigate any impacts on the TRU operational timescale.
