00:00There was a lot of goofiness happening on the set of The Lord of the Rings and in the two towers John Rhys-Davis, who played Gimli, pulled off a bit of a prank on Peter Jackson.
00:08John is actually, he's missing the end of his middle finger.
00:12I was playing with a van on my farm and we needed to do an engine swap in any way.
00:17The long and short of it was the short of it, if you'll pardon the expression.
00:20So the makeup guys basically helped him make a bit of a prosthetic for the finger to extend it so that it looked normal for the filming.
00:27Well, having got the artificial fingertip on, we just had to sort of play it for what it's worth.
00:32But Peter Jackson wasn't aware of this, so they figured, let's trick him.
00:35Let's cut that little prosthetic up, put some blood in it so it oozes out.
00:39And then John approached Peter Jackson and said that he had an accident while showing the split in his finger with all the blood oozing out.
00:45And Peter went absolutely white.
00:47Oh, we should get the medic.
00:50Medic, we should get the medic.
00:52I'm sorry, I'm pretty childish.
00:54After which John and the other people aware of the prank cracked up and Peter had a big sigh of relief.
01:01Yes, let's get you in your clothes, John.
01:04Why don't you just take a rest of the jam?
01:05No, no, no.
01:06Oh, John, come on.
01:08And I think these kind of things yet again prove what an amazing cast and crew they put together for these movies.
01:13Since this kind of stuff happened all the time and in the end is a big reason to why the movies turned out as well as they did.
01:19So, let's get started.
