00:0080 years ago World War II ended. Today the United Kingdom comes together to
00:10remember and to honour. In London a grand parade honoured the heroes. Troops marched
00:17joined by allies from NATO and Ukraine. The skies roared with a fly past as jets
00:24old and new flew over Buckingham Palace. Today is informed by the history of the
00:30past and to remember the the events of VE Day 80 years ago it's crucial that new
00:40generations learn about the history of the Second World War to you know to
00:44inform them their knowledge of how we've gotten to today of how nations across
00:49the world allied together during the Second World War to defeat Nazism. The
00:57royal family watched from the balcony. King Charles stood with Queen Camilla
01:02surrounded by their loved ones young and old waving to the cheering crowd below.
01:07An actor read Churchill's words from 1945. There's more and more veterans passing away
01:17so it's more important than ever I think to keep the memory alive and you know
01:23celebrate how they would have done and how they'd like us to. I mean to be on HMS
01:27Belfast is brilliant and there were some special guests earlier on today which is
01:32really nice and it's not every day you get to be on a live-in museum on such a
01:37special day in history. That's fantastic that they're able to do it.
01:41Veterans stood proudly remembering their fallen friends. Across the country there
01:47were tea parties, music and moments of silence.
01:53It's a huge historical moment in time. The VE Day is massive for us here in London
02:02and in Europe as well and yeah I'm really enjoying myself from my own personal
02:08reasons but also to just yeah to make my mark and and and make people aware that
02:13women were definitely here and important at that time. At HMS Belfast, one of the
02:19last great warships from that time, people walked the decks where sailors once
02:24stood during battle.
02:29Red poppies bloomed at the Tower of London, each one a symbol of sacrifice. This is more
02:37than a celebration. It is a reminder that peace must be protected and memory kept alive.
