Speaking to reporters outside the White House on Sunday, President Trump defended his movie tariff idea.
Transcript
00:00What about the movie tariffs, what they've done is other nations have been stealing the movies,
00:11the movie making capabilities from the United States. And I said to a couple of people,
00:16what do you think? I've done some very strong research over the last week.
00:21And we're making very few movies now. Hollywood is being destroyed. Now,
00:25you have an incompetent, grossly incompetent governor that allowed that to happen.
00:29So I'm not just blaming other nations, but other nations,
00:33a lot of them, have stolen our movie industry. And I'm saying,
00:37if they're not willing to make a movie inside the United States,
00:41then we should have a tariff on movies that come in. And not only that,
00:45governments are actually giving big money. I mean, they're supporting them financially.
00:49So that's sort of a threat to our country, in a sense. And it's been a very popular thing.
00:56I can tell you one thing. Movie makers love it. Movie makers.
01:00Mr. President, will you bring that up with Canada? Will you bring that up with Canada tomorrow?
01:06The movie business is my business as well.
01:08Well, Canada is only one of many countries.
