00:00America is undoubtedly the epicenter of fast food.
00:04As a matter of fact, Americans spend $400 billion a year on it.
00:09But the question is, are we the best at it?
00:11That's why we're here in the UK, our biggest competitor.
00:14Supposedly, they're using better ingredients.
00:16In fact, there are some ingredients in the US that are illegal in the UK.
00:20On top of that, they have bigger menus, more unique items,
00:22and fast food experiences that the US has never seen.
00:25So it's finally time.
00:26The whole world's watching the ultimate fast food showdown.
00:29The US versus the UK.
00:31Starting at KFC in the UK.
00:33But I'm not doing this alone.
00:34Today, I'm joined with guest judges, UK YouTube duo, Jolly.
00:38We'll be pitting the UK's top fast food spots against their closest US counterparts.
00:42And at the end of each stop, we'll be rating our overall experiences out of 10.
00:45The country with the highest total average wins our battle.
00:49Now, to kick things off at UK KFC, we've got their fried chicken bucket,
00:52the french fries, or chips as they call them,
00:54and a unique item we don't have called the Tower Burger.
00:56All that said, we're going to be rating every spot,
00:58purely by experience on a scale of 1 through 10.
01:01But we will also be talking about speed, flavor, texture.
01:03Chicken.
01:04Reach into my bowl of wonders and grab a piece of chicken.
01:06Distinctly KFC smell.
01:07Is that the same as the American KFC smell?
01:09Something's missing from it.
01:10Oh, it's all the chemicals.
01:13The stuff that we don't allow.
01:14You know, this is actually, this is probably about the same.
01:17I'm always amazed at how little crunch there is.
01:19It's like if they dipped it in breading, refrigerated it, baked it, and then dunked it in oil.
01:23It's flaccid.
01:24Yeah, incredibly greasy, really.
01:25I don't enjoy how that tastes.
01:27Texturally, especially.
01:28The texture, I just, oh, it's awful.
01:30It's like mid, on a good day, maybe above mid.
01:32That said, flavor-wise, it's okay.
01:34Salt levels are okay.
01:35The 11 herbs and spices, to me, I think here in England, they're doing more like two or three herbs and spices, possibly.
01:40Next up, a unique item only available in the UK, the Tower Burger.
01:44They didn't even get this centered.
01:45This is way off.
01:46If you're expecting them to center the ketchup, then I think already your expectations are too high.
01:50A hash brown, a fried KFC chicken.
01:52For some reason, there is American cheese on here.
01:54I have no idea why.
01:55Contextually, that makes no sense.
01:56This feels like a special moment as well, eating with the colonel himself.
02:00Wow.
02:01That's fucked up.
02:02I believe that there are great chicken sandwiches in this wonderful country.
02:06We call them chicken burgers, but yeah, we'll take it.
02:09That is not one of them.
02:10The number one problem when I bit into it was, all I tasted was ketchup.
02:13Once I finally got past the great wall of ketchup, I then was greeted with the texture of this potato,
02:18which was probably greater than or equal to a paste of cornstarch.
02:21I'm just not picking up much crunch from it.
02:23Same thing, not much crunch from the chicken.
02:24The salt level is pretty underwhelming, and overall, it's been fried in oil.
02:28It's been reused and reused, so you're getting a little bit of that bitter aftertaste.
02:31That said, I do have a couple of positive notes.
02:34It's amazing listening to someone who actually knows what they're talking about.
02:36What a pro.
02:37I'm loving this.
02:38I mean, we do this for a living, but we've got no idea what we're doing.
02:40Yeah.
02:41I want to point to the salad.
02:43It tasted like it had been put through a paper shredder.
02:45You know what they call that?
02:46In America, they call it shreddis.
02:47Shreddis.
02:48Really?
02:49Now, for the moment of truth, the french fry.
02:51This is what won our best fast food french fry in America.
02:54Not this one, but the one in America.
02:56These fries are different.
02:57The question is, are they better?
02:58No.
02:59These are terrible.
03:00That's atrocious.
03:01It's funny that guy's coughing right now, because I'm trying not to suffocate.
03:04Three items from the UK, KFC down.
03:06Now it's time to rate our overall experience.
03:09Four out of ten.
03:10I'd say a three.
03:11It would have been a three if there wasn't a guy gagging.
03:13It was like a soundtrack, so I'm going to go 2.2.
03:16The UK, not off to a strong start, but there's plenty more places to visit.
03:20So let's see how KFC is doing in the US.
03:22Before we go in, I have an announcement.
03:24Merch has been released.
03:25The second channel is known for a while, and I'm bringing it over here.
03:27A very limited release, so be sure to get yourself some.
03:30It's in the link in the description.
03:31We've got a bread shirt.
03:32Look at this.
03:33Come on.
03:34You like bread?
03:35I like bread.
03:36We have our Needs Salt shirt.
03:37And a beautiful hat.
03:38So if you'd like some, go to the link in the description and get some before it runs out.
03:40Love ya.
03:41Now, let's get in there.
03:42Can I do a six-piece chicken bucket?
03:44French fries as well.
03:46That guy was so Southern, I could barely understand what he was saying.
03:51Speaking of Southern, Josh and Ali got a little taste of Southern hospitality.
03:56Thank you so much.
03:58Southern hospitality.
03:59You guys are so friendly.
04:01Dude, Texas people are nice.
04:03Everyone thinks that we're mean.
04:04Have you had KFC in America?
04:06Is this a new experience?
04:07I honestly don't think I've ever had American KFC.
04:10I mean, I opened the lid of this bucket and my fingers are covered in grease.
04:14But my first impression is, holy crap.
04:17What are you feeding your chicken?
04:18Why is that so big?
04:19Because it's literally double the size.
04:21I think that's the biggest piece of fried chicken.
04:23That's a breast.
04:24This is a wing.
04:25Oh, the leg's actually really small.
04:26Skip leg day and got a breast enhancement.
04:29Cheers.
04:31Oh, wow.
04:32Crispy.
04:33It's got way more seasoning to it.
04:34It's just as oily.
04:35I keep chewing, but nothing's happening.
04:37That was very stringy.
04:38It took like 10 times the amount of chewing as the KFC in the UK.
04:41I mean, the initial flavor is so good though.
04:43That batter, while being greasy as hell, tastes good.
04:46I feel no less disgusting, but it just tastes better.
04:49When we had KFC in the UK, I really did feel ashamed of myself.
04:52And I feel similar, but it just tastes better.
04:54It feels like the reward for debasing yourself-
04:56Is much higher.
04:57Is much higher.
04:58Whoa.
04:59We tried that.
05:00Off to a good start.
05:01Let's try the fries and decide.
05:02The French ones.
05:03These are completely different.
05:04They're skinless.
05:05They're battered.
05:06They're seasoned.
05:07And I will say these don't look as good as the ones that won the fry competition.
05:09And that shows the inconsistency in a fast food restaurant.
05:12Ooh.
05:13Ooh.
05:14Chemically aftertaste.
05:15That is completely different to the British caffeine.
05:17You see what it does to you?
05:18They're addictive as hell.
05:19What the, what's going on?
05:20Oh my gosh.
05:21It's quite difficult to stop.
05:22They're really satisfyingly crunchy.
05:23And look, the scary aftertaste went away.
05:25Now it's-
05:26You're right.
05:27It's alluring you back in.
05:28Oh my gosh.
05:29America.
05:30I can't taste the chemicals at all anymore.
05:31Rating time.
05:32First impressions, definitely better than KFC in the UK.
05:35You're probably going to give this 7.7.
05:38I'll give it a 7.
05:39I think I'm also going to give it a 7.
05:40This is the best KFC I've ever had.
05:42On to the next.
05:43The US on the other hand starting off very strong, back across the pond.
05:46See if the UK can respond.
05:48We're here at a place that's new.
05:50Not to the world.
05:51Definitely not to the US.
05:52But definitely to the UK.
05:53And that is Wendy's.
05:55It's newish.
05:56Last couple of years.
05:57People have suggested that it's better than the one in the US.
05:59There's only one way to find out.
06:00And we're going to kick that off with none other than a chicken burger.
06:03I see you've picked up on our-
06:05I don't know what you're talking about.
06:06Let's just go for it.
06:07Cheers.
06:08That is easily, I would say, the freshest tasting of any of the fast food we've had today.
06:13The lettuce has a real crisp to it.
06:15Well, they haven't shredded-
06:17Yeah.
06:18There's a little bit of spice in the batter.
06:20It's got kick.
06:21Texturally great.
06:22I have no issue with the texture.
06:23It's got a nice crunch.
06:24The inside's got some juiciness to it.
06:25It's not super dry.
06:26On the lettuce, the bun is chewy, but on the flavor side, somehow not that punchy.
06:31There's good spice, but I'm not getting a lot of chicken.
06:33I'm not getting, like, herbs and spices.
06:35I'm not getting, like, garlic.
06:36I'm not getting umami.
06:37I'm not getting lots of chicken.
06:38I'm just kind of getting, like, blank piece of paper with paprika on it.
06:41On to the next.
06:42Dave's double.
06:43You've got a great maillard, which is kind of a surprise.
06:45What's a maillard?
06:46Whenever you sear something, get a full context here, you get this nice browning here.
06:50Ooh.
06:51I like it.
06:52A little sear.
06:53Why is there no salt?
06:54I bite into something, and I think, that is perfect.
06:56And then you explain all of the reasons why it's not perfect, and I'm like, oh, yeah.
07:00The ingredients taste fresher.
07:02It feels like it's actually made by hand.
07:04You can taste the freshness of the lettuce, the freshness of the tomato, the beef that's
07:08actually got a bit of chew to it.
07:10The beef does taste like it could have been frozen, but at least it tastes more like beef than
07:14some fast food joints.
07:15It's got the maillard on it.
07:16Yep.
07:17That's a duck.
07:18Maillard.
07:19Maillard.
07:20Long story short, lacking flavor, lacking salt.
07:21I hate fast food patties.
07:23They don't have the right fattiness to them.
07:25They're a bit, like, chewy and kind of dry.
07:27Everything else was solid.
07:28We have one more left.
07:29The spicy nugs.
07:31The nuggets, they're dry.
07:32They taste nothing of chicken.
07:33There's no crisp.
07:34It's like eating a sponge, and all I taste flavor-wise is really just a slight spiciness
07:39with no other background flavor.
07:40No garlic.
07:41No seasoning.
07:42But there is a little more salt in it present.
07:44I'll give them that much.
07:45I'm not joking.
07:46When I eat this stuff, I feel all at sea until you talk, and I'm like, yep, I kind
07:50of agree with that.
07:52My overall score is going to come out to a solid five.
07:54It is mid as .
07:55Probably a six and a half, I reckon.
07:57I would probably go 5.5.
07:59Now, I've never loved Wendy's in general, but the question is, is it better in America?
08:04There she is.
08:05There she is.
08:06All right.
08:07Chicken sandwiches.
08:08Oh, look at that.
08:09It's like an emoji.
08:10That's like a butt that's been sat on a bench for a bit too long.
08:12Let's do it, guys.
08:14Again, they've got the seasoning down.
08:16That's salty as heck.
08:17It's almost too salty.
08:18Quite spicy as well.
08:19Yeah, there's a bit of heat to that.
08:20More spicy than the British one.
08:22Everything they said is spicy in the UK was almost not spicy at all.
08:26They should really just trim these up into squares and make nuggets out of them.
08:29The day is double.
08:30It's shinier on the top.
08:31It looks almost more plasticky, maybe.
08:34It does look better than the one in the UK.
08:36Shininess and all.
08:37Cheers.
08:39You were talking about the salt level in the UK burger, and this is definitely seasoned better.
08:44It's just drowning in sauce, which I think the main issue was that it was too dry.
08:48The meat is different.
08:49It's fattier.
08:50Ah.
08:51The first burger that we had in London was less fatty.
08:54And I think you want a fattier piece of meat in a burger to help hydrate all those ingredients.
08:58Yeah, yeah.
08:59It tastes better, but it tastes unhealthier.
09:00Okay, let's move on to the next.
09:02One nugget.
09:03Go for it.
09:04Oh, that's very different.
09:06Very bouncy.
09:07Quite rubbery.
09:08I liked it less with each bite.
09:09It's like when you meet someone the first time, and they're like, they're really great.
09:12And then you meet them again, and they're like, I've had a few less beers, and they're less great.
09:16I feel like they're both equally bad for different reasons.
09:19I mean, salt level's better.
09:20But the texture was worse.
09:21And not much crunch.
09:22Ratings.
09:23You've rated it.
09:24You're giving that a 6.5?
09:25Okay.
09:26I'm gonna give it a 5.
09:27I'm gonna go 7.2.
09:28You're giving it higher than a 7?
09:30What? That's crazy.
09:31What are you thinking?
09:32That was a good fast food meal.
09:33What I will say is the flavor was very good.
09:36There was garlic and seasonings in the chicken.
09:38The beef tasted of beef.
09:39There was no flavor that drew the rating down.
09:42The only thing that did was the texture of certain things.
09:44Yeah.
09:45The chicken nugget being spongy, and the chicken breast in the sandwich being a bit dry.
09:49You took the words right out of my mouth.
09:50That was exactly what I was gonna say.
09:51There you go.
09:52There you go.
09:53I'm a big texture guy.
09:54Would you say texture over taste?
09:55Buy it now.
09:56It's on Amazon.
09:57Did you know that?
09:58The link's in the description.
09:59Moving on.
10:00The US is looking good, but this next competitor might just be what breaks that momentum.
10:04We have a unique offering.
10:05Something I didn't expect, but something that was highly requested.
10:08Not even by these two, but by my DMs.
10:10As soon as people found that I was here, the first thing I kept seeing over and over was
10:13this place called Greg's.
10:14And I was like, what is this?
10:15A 7-Eleven?
10:16It's a British institution.
10:17The sanctum of sausage.
10:19Sausage roll, run it.
10:20Here we go.
10:21Cheers.
10:22Mmm.
10:23Mmm.
10:24Mmm.
10:25This is probably the fast food that I eat more than any other.
10:28I hate to say it.
10:29This is actually really good.
10:30Because it tastes like almost nothing.
10:31It's the essence of nothing that yearns for something.
10:34There you go.
10:35A wise man once said.
10:36Literally, it's wonderful.
10:37Super crispy on the outside.
10:38It's flaky.
10:39The sausage is super moist.
10:40It's not dry at all.
10:41I thought it would be.
10:42I was expecting something snappier and more toothsome.
10:44But I don't mean that in a way of not liking it.
10:46It's just different than I expected.
10:47But I do like what I got.
10:48If you had the sausage by itself without the pastry, it would be awful.
10:51Like genuinely God awful.
10:52But it works together.
10:53I will say, if you start to peel this back, the first thought is, oh, it's granddad's toe.
10:57It doesn't look right.
10:58On to our next Greg's item, the chicken bake.
11:01Oh, wow.
11:02It really doesn't taste good.
11:04Mother of God.
11:05The way that that slithered down my throat was unacceptable.
11:10That was, I feel violated.
11:12Well, you're going to love the next thing.
11:13This really does look like Subway vomit in a Pop-Tart.
11:16Did you know what this one is?
11:17Right.
11:18This is Subway vomit in a Pop-Tart.
11:19No, it's a sausage, bean and cheese melt.
11:22We Brits love our baked beans.
11:24Atrocious.
11:25We're getting worse.
11:26Cold.
11:27Ice cold.
11:28So cold.
11:29That's because no one orders them.
11:30That's the thing with the sausage roll.
11:31You're going to Greg's, you're always going to get fresh sausage roll because their turnovers
11:34are so quick.
11:35Everyone who used to order these is gone now.
11:37Let's end it on a pleasant note because Greg's also does sweet treats.
11:40These are yum-yums.
11:41My lord, it's a little flaccid.
11:43Well, it is, a little bit.
11:45That's actually pretty good.
11:46Maybe give it a little Dunkaroo.
11:48This is a pre-diabetic masterpiece.
11:50Wow.
11:51Maybe a post-diabetic.
11:52If we're all lucky, we're all going to lose our left foot.
11:54Put it in a bake.
11:56Honestly, these were banging.
11:57It seems like UK does fast food a little differently.
12:00It is also not just about there being a drive through, but just being able to go inside,
12:04grab and leave.
12:05And that's not so much the American mentality.
12:06The American mentality of what fast food is, is there really, there should be a drive
12:09through.
12:10That is like the determiner in America if it's truly fast food is that you don't even get
12:13out of your car.
12:14Because we have this thing, it's called walking.
12:16Yeah.
12:17I like what Greg's is offering.
12:19It's conceptually similar to the 7-Eleven model, but it's way more focused on quick service
12:24food.
12:25But I mean, all things considered, I'm kind of a fan.
12:27Like if I were strolling by a Greg's, I would probably stop to get a sausage roll.
12:30Hell yeah.
12:31If I were to give it a rating, 7.9.
12:33I think I'm happy with 7.9.
12:34I mean, I'm going to go for a 10.
12:3610 out of 10.
12:37You can't improve on a Greg's sausage roll.
12:39If you're going to walk in for a fast food baked good, they've perfected it.
12:43I think there's a reason that it's basically a national religion.
12:46I'm not surprised that Josh, he's not fully on board.
12:48He's a new convert.
12:49It's like the first church service he's gone to.
12:51Right.
12:52He likes what he sees, but he's not ready to get baptized straight away.
12:55No.
12:56All these insane scores are going to make this a little hard to beat.
12:58This now comes down to which country has the best average?
13:01America is down, but not out.
13:03So let's see if they can clutch it up.
13:04The question is, what is the best comparison to Greg's?
13:07A place where you can get a cheap sausage item.
13:10A chicken bait?
13:11A plethora of dessert options.
13:12The answer?
13:13Costco.
13:14So we gave the lads a tour.
13:15It's not exactly a one-to-one experience of walking to Greg's, but it may have been better.
13:19Funny enough, they don't turn any profit on their food, but I'm curious to see where it lands.
13:24You're an idiot.
13:25Welcome back to America.
13:28For the price of $1.50, which is the price of our sausage roll, you get not only this hot dog,
13:33but also a free refill drink.
13:35I mean, that's math.
13:36Cheers.
13:38That's a hot dog for $1.50.
13:39Is that beef?
13:40Yeah, beef hot dog.
13:41I mean, it's hard to hate something that costs that little.
13:43Coming back from the UK, a sausage roll hits way harder than that.
13:46100%.
13:47It's the same price, right?
13:48Yeah, it's the same price.
13:49You don't get a drink, but it's way more comforting.
13:51Ultimately, there's just not that much to say about that.
13:53It is a hot dog, and that's about it.
13:55Greg's also had something else, and they call it a chicken bake.
13:58But guess what?
13:59America has a chicken bake, too.
14:00That's a monstrosity.
14:01It is a monstrosity.
14:02This is so heavy.
14:03It's ridiculous.
14:04I mean, it's almost like they're compensating for something.
14:06You sold that as Greg's chicken bake?
14:08Don't want a male name to give ownership to this.
14:12That is a lot better than Greg's chicken.
14:14This is like a whole meal.
14:15I really like the baked cheese off the side.
14:17If you just compare the inside of that to the inside of the Greg's chicken bake,
14:22it's like a chicken Alfredo inside a crispy pizza packet.
14:25Honestly, this is very good.
14:26It's just too big, though.
14:27Like, who wants all of that?
14:28I do.
14:29I could easily smash one of these.
14:30There's no yum-yums, but they do have soft serve ice cream.
14:33You're a sucker for some soft serve ice cream.
14:35I love some soft serve.
14:36Oh, my gosh.
14:37Cookies and ice cream.
14:38Oh, my gosh.
14:40You've absolutely screwed us by giving us this right before giving the rating.
14:45Before this, I would have said a five.
14:47The hot dog was so much better than all the fast food we've had today.
14:49Yeah, but they're gatekeeping.
14:51They don't let you in.
14:52The chicken bake is oppressively large.
14:54Yeah, exactly.
14:55A little bit insecure, honestly.
14:56Okay.
14:57But, holy crap.
14:59This goes straight to my heart.
15:00It actually does.
15:01You're going to go into cardiac arrest very soon.
15:03Costco, including the experience.
15:067.5.
15:07I was going to go with seven.
15:08I came in with a bad attitude.
15:10The hot dog, it is the same product no matter where you go, right?
15:13The chicken bake, it is actually very good.
15:15And then the chocolate chunk cookies sealed the deal for me.
15:17All things considered, was this seven?
15:19Wow.
15:20Big ups to Costco.
15:21Who would have thought it?
15:22Moving on.
15:23Greg still holds on the top spot, but America's still dominating the leaderboard.
15:25On the overall average, let's see if the next competitor can get the score for the UK.
15:29If there's any fast food that represents American fast food better than any fast food joint,
15:34not by quality, but by cultural significance, it is McDonald's.
15:37This french fry contains four ingredients.
15:39Here's how many the US McDonald's french fry contains.
15:42I can't see what was on the screen.
15:45It's just slightly salty, very oily potato.
15:49This is the most pure potato McDonald's french fry I've had,
15:51because the McDonald's french fry does have a McDonald's flavor in the US.
15:55If you go and taste a US McDonald's french fry, you would probably take a step back and go,
15:58hmm, there's a flavor in here I can't quite identify.
16:00Is the texture the same? I know you like texture.
16:03Why do you ask it like that? He looks me right in the eyes and he's basically like,
16:07I know you like texture.
16:09We tasted it here, but in order to really make a determination,
16:11we've got to try the ones in the US.
16:12Next up, the Quarter Pounder, a better burger experience than the Big Mac,
16:15because let's be honest, the Big Mac is mostly just bread.
16:18This is a bit weird, but what I crave in this is that little piece of crispy bun.
16:24There's nothing about this bun that is crispy.
16:27When I was a little kid, you'd be drinking all that fruit punch and all sorts of random ass cookies and things,
16:32and you throw up in your mouth a little bit, right here.
16:33Good, happy childhood memories.
16:35Lackluster experience so far, but let's see if an item exclusive to the UK swings things around.
16:41But it's not just any cheeseburger. This is the chili cheeseburger.
16:44It has some sort of a chili sauce. It has pickles, but wait a minute.
16:47I also see pickled jalapeno.
16:50It's somehow more dry than the Quarter Pounder.
16:52The patties are thin and getting obliterated.
16:54I really need something to wash that down with.
16:56Very much of American cheese and jalapeno. I didn't get any beef.
17:00The buns are super sweet in a not-so-enjoyable way.
17:04Everything's just kind of one texture. The meat is chewy and floppy like a sandal.
17:09So is the bread. Both are equally as dry.
17:12That's the overall experience of it, and...
17:14It feels like my body's rejecting that a little bit.
17:17We've had the UK experience. I'm giving you a solid 2.5.
17:20Probably just give it 2.
17:21Blah.
17:222.2.
17:23I think we'll stick with 2.5, yeah?
17:25Okay, okay.
17:26It's better when you're in charge.
17:272.5, you ask what you got.
17:30Wow, you gotta stop doing that.
17:32They really are surprising me.
17:33I've noticed a significant difference in the quality.
17:35They have Maillard's now in their patties.
17:37I think they're actually searing them.
17:38The cheese looks better.
17:39All the toppings look decent.
17:40Good toast.
17:41The bun looks nice.
17:42I don't know what's happening.
17:43I think McDonald's is tired of being on, and they actually want to make better food.
17:46Maybe that's happening.
17:47Honestly, I think that is the best-looking McDonald's burger I've ever seen in my entire life.
17:51I did not expect it to be such a contrast from the UK to here.
17:55It could still be worse, so let's taste.
17:57I can taste the mallard in there.
18:01I'm kind of blown away.
18:03Here's what I will say.
18:04The texture's kind of on point.
18:05It's juicy.
18:06It's fatty to the way I like it.
18:07The cheese is kind of melting and making its own sauce.
18:09The pickles come in.
18:10You can taste them.
18:11It's pretty damn good, and the bun is not bad either.
18:14But what I will say, flavor, despite the nice texture, is severely lacking to me.
18:18Not just salt level, but I'm just not tasting much beef or much of anything.
18:21I just taste ketchup.
18:22Surprisingly decent texture.
18:23Like, if I already give this texture a rating, I might give it a 7 or a 7.
18:26or a 6.5, but the flavor is sub 4 to me.
18:29It's not giving much.
18:30We compared the patties at the UK McDonald's to a coaster you put a beer on.
18:34The thickness to this is so different.
18:36There's not really any distinct flavors there.
18:39You just taste all of it in one.
18:41Take a piece of that ground beef and taste it.
18:43It tastes of nothing.
18:44It really does.
18:45Because there's no salt, and this is the most flavorless beef that there is.
18:48It scratches an itch.
18:49Almost no other fast food can.
18:51I can't imagine it would really get much better than this at a McDonald's.
18:54Are the McDonald's fries in the US better than the ones in the UK?
18:58Or is it the other way around?
19:00Yeah, there's literally 12 more ingredients in this.
19:02Is there any potato in that at all?
19:04It just gets dipped into like 12 chemical baths and then fried.
19:07There's no salt in them, but there wasn't salt on the British ones either.
19:10No.
19:11They're not crispy somehow.
19:12They're like chewy.
19:13That's a bad fry.
19:14Honestly, 1 to 1 the US and UK fries were similar because they were both mid.
19:17Maybe I'd give it to the UK due to the lack of chemicals, but you know what?
19:20Time to rate.
19:21When I say the burger was as good as a McDonald's burger could be, there's still a ceiling to that.
19:25I think this whole experience has been really pleasant for me.
19:28The double cheeseburger way surpassed my expectations.
19:31I might even give it a 5.8.
19:32The fries really dragged it down.
19:34I'd maybe give it a 6.5.
19:35I'm going to go for a dead six.
19:37I'm going to give it a flat 5.5.
19:39Honestly, kind of high for McDonald's.
19:41In the UK, I felt sick immediately after eating it.
19:45But then as soon as we bit into the McDonald's, I felt like I might crap myself.
19:49Did you?
19:50That's private.
19:51Okay.
19:52Moving on.
19:53McDonald's yet again, leaving us unimpressed this time for both UK and the US.
19:57And now the time has come for our final matchup.
20:00Taking the UK's top grossing chicken spot, Nando's, and putting it up against the US's top grossing chicken spot, Chick-fil-A.
20:06This is a battle of chicken Goliaths.
20:09Apparently the Brits love a Chicky Nando's.
20:11But it's only fair to compare it directly to one of the chicken spots that continuously has Americans in a chokehold across the country.
20:17This is going to be interesting.
20:19All you need to know is British people love Nando's.
20:21It's beloved.
20:22So, careful.
20:23Watch your words.
20:24We're on the street corner right now next to about 350,000 bikes.
20:27Yup.
20:28Those are all the people that are parked and are just waiting in case you bad mouth.
20:32Oh, fantastic.
20:33Nando's.
20:34This is your half chicken.
20:35This is maybe one of the most common orders.
20:36People come into Nando's, they get a half chicken or a quarter chicken.
20:38It's rotisserie style.
20:39We've gone for a classic medium hot sauce.
20:42People are very particular about how spicy you go for your peri-peri hot sauce at Nando's.
20:46If you want to go hot, we have some hot.
20:48We have to do right.
20:49A little bit hot sauce.
20:50Oh, wow.
20:51There you go.
20:52Bam.
20:53It squirted a little bit.
20:54Juicy.
20:55Seasoned nicely.
20:56It's got the smokiness from the grill.
20:57I'm kind of surprised.
20:58In the wing roulette.
20:59Wings.
21:00But it's got a little bit of novelty factor.
21:01There's multiple different spice levels on the wings.
21:03You don't know which one you're going to get.
21:05You just take a bite, roll the dice.
21:08That's for sure spicy.
21:09This one's just barbecue.
21:10I got off easy on the roulette there.
21:11I think that's quite lemony.
21:13I like the ooey gooey.
21:14They're cooked nicely.
21:15You get the smoky grill flavor.
21:16I mean, this is quality cooked chicken.
21:18I'm kind of surprised.
21:19In Chicago, I went to Nando's.
21:20Very nice.
21:21But this one is significantly better.
21:22Seasoning is better.
21:23Texture is better.
21:24It's cooked nicer.
21:25I think it would be lower quality.
21:26I'm trying to understand why you're surprised by this.
21:28You're baiting me.
21:29You're baiting me.
21:30Nando's is a bit more pricey than your average fast food.
21:32And, you know, I think it tastes it.
21:33We have the thighs.
21:34It is juicy.
21:36That's good.
21:37I'm getting the most, like, char-grilled kind of action.
21:39Reminiscent of, you know, the sort of Burger King fake char-grilled.
21:42But the real version.
21:43I wish there was a little more salt on this.
21:45But it's not, like, missing enough for me to complain.
21:47But what I will say is they're cooked nicely.
21:49But the flavor is very chicken-forward.
21:51It's nice.
21:52Someone just brought me a plate of that.
21:53And I closed my eyes and I ate it.
21:54I think my first thought would be, like, you know what?
21:55This is close to an 8 out of 10 overall.
21:57Like, in the sense of tastes good.
21:59It delivers.
22:00It's not dry.
22:01And that's, like, the biggest loss on most chicken bites.
22:02It's overcooked.
22:03Surprisingly cooked nicely.
22:04But, okay, we're sitting at an 8 out of 10.
22:06The convenience element is a problem.
22:08I think that it drops that down from the fast food world closer to, like, a 7-5.
22:13To enjoy a Nando's, you kind of have to go and sit down.
22:15And if I'm going to do that, I don't want to go to a chain.
22:18I want to go, you know, somewhere local.
22:20Somewhere that the people making the food really care about.
22:22Yeah.
22:23That's how it really suffers.
22:24While the taste, I agree, it's on, like, an 8.
22:26For me, convenience brings it down to, like, a 5.
22:28It's mid.
22:29Oh, wow.
22:30Nando's is super mid.
22:31Okay, I instinctively want to go higher.
22:33But mainly because I'm a contrarian.
22:35Okay.
22:36And also, I don't like upsetting people.
22:37It was juicy, well-seasoned.
22:39I would say 7.5.
22:41And just like that, Nando's is on the board.
22:43That only leaves one spot left to go before deciding which country is taking home the crown.
22:48On to Chick-fil-A.
22:49It's poppin' in here.
22:50We've got a double line.
22:52The first queue of the day.
22:54Yeah, they're also known for being extremely polite.
22:57What can I do for you today?
22:58Can we do three spicy chicken sandwiches?
23:00Can I also do one order of the grilled nuggets, one order of the four-piece tenders?
23:03Four-piece tenders, yes, sir.
23:0434-11.
23:07I got called, sir.
23:08Wow, they were very, very polite.
23:10She didn't say my pleasure, which was really upsetting to me.
23:12Oh, that's a thing they do, isn't it?
23:14There you go.
23:15Awesome, thank you.
23:16Our pleasure.
23:17Why would you say that?
23:18Why did I not say that?
23:19You don't say it.
23:20You cannot take pleasure.
23:21They're being pleasured.
23:23We're back in America at the US's version of the top grossing chicken spot.
23:29Nando's has grilled chicken, but so does Chick-fil-A.
23:32But it only comes in one form, which is grilled nuggets.
23:34You have grilled nuggets?
23:36It doesn't look great.
23:37That looks like bodybuilder food.
23:39Meatheads love this stuff.
23:40Why are they slimy?
23:41It's very, very soft.
23:43It's a bit rubbery.
23:44It feels refreshingly healthy for a fast food spot, you know?
23:47It's not deep fried in batter.
23:49If I'm in a pinch, and I'm traveling, and I'm somewhere in the United States, I can rely.
23:53The Chick-fil-A will have some grilled nuggets that I can eat and hit my protein goal.
23:57It makes it very easy.
23:58I feel like I'm in a men's health video right now.
24:00Yeah.
24:01What they are known for is their fried chicken.
24:03We're going to start with the tenders here.
24:05Very crunchy.
24:06A little bit spicy.
24:07Way less greasy than KFC.
24:08Spicy?
24:09Warm.
24:10No?
24:11Just a little.
24:12You're not getting anything?
24:13You guys are roasting yourselves, I don't even say.
24:14With the Chick-fil-A sauce, it's damn good.
24:16It goes down very, very easy.
24:18Yeah.
24:19What's up, man?
24:20How are you?
24:21This is the obligatory break in the episode.
24:23Where Joshua gets recognized.
24:24We should say this did happen to us once on the shoot.
24:27A guy pulled up, wound down his window, and he said, this is a direct quote.
24:31Are you the guys who do those videos with the little kids?
24:34Okay.
24:35I will say these are the better breaded ones that I've had, which is not what I want.
24:38It's slacking something, but we still have one more item.
24:41This is what put them on the map.
24:42This is the reason that people love Chick-fil-A.
24:44It is a chicken sandwich.
24:45A little bit of trench foot on the bottom there.
24:47The way you took that bite, you were going Pennywise.
24:52It's spice.
24:53It's got that little bit of heat.
24:55It hits the spot.
24:56One of the worst Chick-fil-A sandwiches I've ever had.
24:58However, you're right.
24:59It really does hit a spot.
25:00It's very hard for me to dislike that.
25:02Well, experience-wise, very, very friendly.
25:05I was looking forward to the manners.
25:07You told us that they would be polite, and I was not disappointed.
25:09The food hits the spot, but I think you're right.
25:11It is more disappointing.
25:12It's more Chick-fil-B minus than other Chick-fil-As that I've had.
25:15For me, it was above average as far as chicken experiences go.
25:20That said, the convenience much higher than Nando's.
25:24Taste was not as good.
25:26I had the one that had trench foot, so I do feel personally a little bit affronted.
25:31It doesn't matter how polite you're being, it's still not bad.
25:34We've got low standards.
25:35Yeah, we do.
25:36We do.
25:37The texture of flavor was good.
25:38Salt levels were good.
25:39I'll give it a six today.
25:405.5.
25:41I'm going to give it a six.
25:42All right, so we have a final ranking, but do you know the top spot or the winner?
25:47I honestly have no idea.
25:49Was it Greggs?
25:50Greggs must have ranked pretty highly.
25:51The highest ranking of this video.
25:53Greggs!
25:54Yes!
25:55Come on!
25:56In London!
25:57Unbelievable!
25:58But USA wins the overall competition by a landslide!
26:03Which honestly, frankly, makes a lot of sense.
26:06We're allowed to use ingredients that you guys aren't.
26:08You're the kings of fast food.
26:09I actually am not proud of this.
26:11It's a poison chalice.
26:12Sometimes literally.
26:13Fast food is just something that America owns.
26:16And whether that's something that we can take pride out of, which probably we shouldn't,
26:19we at least can have that.
26:20Let me please be the first to say, it was my pleasure.
26:24Subscribe, love you, bye.
26:28By the way...
26:29To be continued...
26:30All right.
26:31I appreciate it.
