00:00The last landlord of the Radnor Arms cuts the ribbon on a new era. A member of the
00:13community, Nigel closed the doors in 2016 but now after a lot of fight the pub is
00:19community-owned. Opening the doors for the first time as an up-and-running pub
00:23with regular working hours, those with fond memories came to celebrate.
00:27When we moved, obviously, the pub was a wreck. The community were fundraising, there was a shareholder thing and we were more than happy to get involved and it's great to see that the pub's actually open now and the hard work that's been put in is phenomenal and it's just fantastic because, you know, it's a new community facility and you can just see by how many people are here that it's a wanted facility.
00:52I often walk by the sad-looking pub with the ferns growing inside and it's amazing to see it open and the life that's in there now, it's just brilliant and I'm sure the village will use it regularly.
01:10Utilising local talent, artist Rachel helped bring the interior to life by honouring its Victorian history.
01:16It feels like the village has now come alive. I think that it is a building that provides much joy, recreation for people but it also is really important about holding the history of the pub and also the archival content which there is much and also really important.
01:39And I think the pub is important and I think the pub is important and it's a safe space for people. It's not about necessarily drinking a vast amount but it's a warm social space and for those who don't have family, it's a safe house as well as a public house.
01:56The pub is currently open on part-time hours, Friday to Sunday but right now that's enough for people who have missed having a local in the village.
02:04Well, I moved in in August but you've lived here much longer.
02:07I've been here much longer, yeah. On and off, yeah, most of my life. Everyone from around the village used to be here.
02:15More of a sense of where you see people you know or maybe you don't know them.
02:20You see it's valuable by how many people have come. You know, every opening we've come down just for one or two maybe but it's been packed out every single time. It's clearly a valuable asset to the village.
02:32Many, many things to celebrate as the Radnor Arms in New Radnor finally opens at long last. Busy. A lot of the locals have come in to celebrate and see it open again after so many years close.
02:44It's not the end though. There's still a lot more to do. They're going to reopen another bar and then eventually get accommodation and who knows what else is here in the future.
02:51But for now, we know that people can at least come in Friday, Saturday, Sunday, get their drinks and have a good time. The village has a pub again. A lot to celebrate.
