Our planet is changing at a record pace, in fact experts say that human caused climate change has even forced Earth into another extinction event. That is largely due to the burning of fossil fuels and changes in the chemical makeup of our air and experts now say our atmosphere has more CO2 now than it has for millions of years.

00:14and changes in the chemical makeup of our air and now experts say that our atmosphere has more co2
00:19now than it has for millions of years researchers looked back some 66 million years taking into
00:26account both biological and geochemical signatures since finding that in 2023 there's more co2 in the
00:32atmosphere than there has been since the middle miocene period or around 14 million years ago
00:38the study's lead author told agents france press quote it really brings it home to us that what we
00:42are doing is very very unusual in earth's history with that same news outlet pointing out that this
00:48is in contrast to previous estimates which suggested that co2 levels were on par with those of only three
00:53to five million years ago experts say this is an important metric as humans only evolved around
00:58three million years ago with the researchers adding that our civilization is tuned to sea level as it is
01:03today to having warm tropics and cool poles and temperate regions that have a lot of rainfall and
01:08global emissions continue to rise with some predicting that by 2100 co2 levels could reach those of the
01:15aeocene period or the same level as those 30 to 40 million years ago
