05 May - national forecast presented by Tom Morgan
Transcript
00:00Hi there.
00:01The dry theme continues through today and through much of the coming week as well.
00:05But we will have a few showers around courtesy of a clear front this afternoon and we can
00:09see on the latest radar where those showers have been over this morning so far across
00:13the east of England and particularly the southeast where a few heavier showers have been affecting
00:17East Anglia and the greater London region over the last few hours.
00:21And through this afternoon it will continue to stay quite cloudy in the southeast and
00:24quite breezy and cool as well with a north-eastly wind bringing a few further showers across
00:29the far southeast and central southern England.
00:31But the vast majority of the UK will have another fine day with a mixture of cloud and sunny
00:35spells and in that sunshine it should feel fairly pleasantly warm once again with 16 degrees
00:40in the west with lighter winds across Scotland and Northern Ireland but still a little bit
00:44cooler further east with some quite blustery winds particularly on the North Sea coast and
00:49temperatures here a little bit below average at just 12 or 13 degrees and particularly gusty
00:54in the far southeast of England with perhaps wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour.
00:59So with those clearing skies through this evening and those still quite brisk winds in the south
01:03it will start to feel quite chilly as the sun goes down and clearing skies across many parts
01:08of the UK overnight tonight so we are likely to see a fairly widespread frost in the countryside
01:12by tomorrow morning so gardeners and growers beware temperatures falling down to perhaps minus
01:17two minus three degrees in the coldest spots. Towns and cities generally staying a little bit
01:22above freezing and generally speaking frost free in the far southeast of England because of that
01:26breeze continuing. One or two mist and fog patches as well perhaps well in the countryside but
01:31those will clear pretty rapidly on Tuesday morning and once again another fine and sunny picture is on
01:38offer through Tuesday for the vast majority. A bit more in a way of cloud across northern Scotland,
01:42the odd shower for Shetland and perhaps a bit more in a way of cloud coming in once again across
01:46northeast England, the Midlands, East Anglia and the southeast. So here not so sunny and still quite cool
01:52with perhaps if you're very unlucky the odd light shower. Once again the highest temperatures in the
01:57west though 17 or 18 degrees so a warmer day for many of us compared to on Monday but still a little
02:02bit disappointing compared to the last week or so particularly in the east with temperatures here
02:07at 14 or 15 degrees at best but it won't be quite as windy tomorrow as today.
02:13So if you'd like to know what's coming up in the week ahead then Craig Snell will have your full
02:17forecast for the week ahead on our YouTube channel later but that's everything from me for now.
02:21I'll see you again soon.
