00:00Is 2.5% of GDP enough or do we need to go further?
00:02Oh no, I think it's rubbish.
00:042.5% we ought to be thinking in terms of what the polls are spending.
00:10They're spending over 4%.
00:11I would like to see 5% spent.
00:15Not when we can afford it, but now.
00:18There we are, Alistair. What do you think of that?
00:22Well, Colin's the greatest advocate.
00:24We should get him onto the political team here.
00:26What I would say is we've got 2.5% for this parliament.
00:28That's the biggest uplift in spending since the Cold War.
00:31We've said 3% in the next parliament.
00:34So we're moving progressively.
00:36We're in line with many other nations.
00:38And we're leading a lot of European nations as well
00:40to try and drive more spending for defence
00:43and ensure armed forces personnel get the capability they require
00:47if they should be called upon in the future.
00:49And I've served for 24 years in the Marines,
00:51so I know exactly what's required and what's needed as we move forward.
