Kennedy MP Bob Katter has successfully retained his seat for the 13th time, representing the region for 32 years. The North Queensland Register spoke with northern voters ahead of the result of the Saturday, May 3 voting day, and asked what they would like to see from Mr Katter should he successfully contest his seat once more.
Cost of living and housing issues were high on the agenda for most people.

00:00Maybe housing. They are literally nothing to rent out here.
00:05My child is houses for sale, looks like selling, and we cannot get them anywhere to live.
00:11So they are looking at having to leave town.
00:14Even though he's a good fellow and he's done a lot of work, and he's done a lot of good work,
00:18I think it's time he just handed it over to someone else.
00:21Just housing stuff really needs to go down.
00:24Especially in town, it's $600 a week for rent.
00:30And it's really ridiculous, and especially food as well.
00:33Out here it's $12 for a bag of shredded cheese.
00:39It's really ridiculous.
00:42Definitely groceries are a lot more expensive.
00:44It's a lot harder to sustain that comfortable living environment at the moment,
00:49but you've just got to be more conscious of it at the moment than we used to in the past.
00:53Hell's Gate.
00:54What's that?
00:55Hell's Gate.
00:56What would you like to see done with Hell's Gate?
00:58Go ahead.
01:01And why is that?
01:02What do you think it will do, positively?
01:04I think it will provide employment, it will provide security as far as what's going on,
01:11agriculture, possibly even hydro down the track.
