00:00Voter turnout has been still slightly higher than for the presidential election in 2024,
00:07the one that was in the end annulled.
00:09In this voting station where I am now in Bucharest,
00:13the voting has been unfolding quietly.
00:16People are coming. They're very enthusiastic.
00:18They're very aware of how important this vote is.
00:22We've spoken to people from all ages
00:25who are saying that this vote will change the future of their country.
00:31Some are worried that the pro-European stance of Romania might change.
00:38Others are angry that the election was cancelled last year.
00:43And so they are all very happy to cast their ballots.
00:47For now, polls are showing that George Simeon is leading
00:52with about 30 percent of possible votes.
00:55But polls have been wrong in the past in Romania, as we've seen in 2024.
01:00So we'll have to see what happens after polling stations close at 9 p.m. local time.
01:08Currently in the polls, he's followed by Krin Antonescu.
01:12This is the candidate representing the ruling coalition.
01:15Then there's also a pro-European liberal Nikushar Dan,
01:19who's also the mayor of Bucharest.
01:23The voting stations will close at 9 p.m. local time tonight
01:27and we'll have the first exit polls a few minutes later.
