00:00Welcome to La Vuelta Femenina into its third edition as a fully-fledged week-long stage
00:11race and for the third year of running we kick off with the team time trial so the GC favourites
00:16will have to be switched on from the word go. The woman to beat is no doubt the defending
00:20champion at Demi Follering. The Dutch woman lines up for her new team FDJ Suez alongside
00:26Juliette Labusse and Evita Music both in the top five last year. Last year's runner-up
00:31Rihanna Marcus has switched to Lidl Trek along with Niamh Fischer-Black and the American squad
00:37are out to win the TTT for the second time in a row. Reigning Tour de France champion
00:41Casio Nuevi-Odoma is also here but she will be in a support role for Niamh Bradbury over
00:47at Canyon Tram. SD works are headed by the returning Anna Pontebrechen whose Ardennes Classic season
00:53was blighted by illness and there's another big comeback for Pauline Ferron-Prevo who's
00:58riding her first Grand Tour in a decade for Visma Lisa bike alongside Mariana Vos.
01:03Well this opening team time trial around Barcelona is just 8.1km long and it's going to be fast
01:10and furious. This one is all about raw power. It's a nice flat course with plenty of long straights
01:16and the times will be taken when the fourth rider of each team crosses the line.
01:23So time to get the party started in Barcelona.
01:34Well lotto ladies kicking off this Vuelta Femenina and setting the first time to beat
01:3810 minutes and 7 seconds. But they didn't spend long in the hot seat. Their mark was bettered by
01:45Cofidis and then blown out of the water by Picnic Postonel. The Dutch squad roaring round in an average
01:51of more than 50km an hour. And they obliterated. Go to the top of the timesheets. The first squad to
01:56break 50km per hour. Vinca Vinca leading their line to the line.
02:03So 9.39. Now the time to beat. And that was just beyond the home favourites Movistar. The Spanish
02:11team with their new Swiss powerhouse Marlon Reusser coming in at just 7 seconds down.
02:18Well meanwhile there was a bit of a chaotic start for Visma Lisa bike.
02:21One of their riders just late to the party. And will she get on? I mean that's absolutely disastrous
02:26for a team of that calibre. And indeed for two teams. So I wonder if there are just some communications
02:31issues among the teams. The ladies in yellow setting off without Imogen Wolf who would never
02:36catch up again. And that no doubt cost them in their bid to win the TTT for the second time in
02:41three years after 2023. Visma Lisa bike finishing 12 seconds down. Picnic Postonel were eventually
02:49knocked off their perch though. Mavi Garcia's Liv Alulajeico team powering their way to the line in
02:55Barcelona. But it's going to be the top spot for now for the Liv Alulajeico squad. 50.8 kilometres an
03:03hour and that is the fastest time so far. A brilliance effort from the Australian outfit
03:09and it was beyond the reach of Canyon Schrams on the Crypto who came in just five seconds down.
03:16Lidl Trek looked in the mood though with their incredibly strong line-up including Emma Norsgaard,
03:21the Danish time trial champion, Anna Henderson, the British time trial champion, Rihanna Marcus,
03:26the Dutch time trial champion and Ellen van Tijck, the three-time world time trial champion.
03:32Even with all of that firepower it was going to be mighty close.
03:35Through to the line and that's good enough by three seconds just about get there.
03:39It's Lidl Trek have taken over as the fastest team on stage one of Vuelta Femenina.
03:45SD works pro time also enjoying a solid day at the office. Vanderbrechen and co only dropped three
03:52seconds on Lidl Trek. But there was then a scary moment for the last team out on course, FDJ Suez.
04:00Oh, rider down. Oh, and that's very, very painful.
04:02Well, Vittoria Guazzini going to ground hard. We hope she's okay. The rest of her teammates
04:09recovering though and limiting the damage to just six seconds. Victory for the second year running
04:16going to Lidl Trek. Well, in 2024, Lidl Trek won the team time trial here despite a crash in the final
04:24kilometer. And it's one of the women who went down that day, Ellen van Dijk, who becomes the first
04:30leader of the 2025 edition. The American squad laying down an early marker.
04:35We are super happy. We really wanted this win. We trained really well for it. We had the whole
04:42team like really going for this, not just the riders, but all the staff. We were here with a lot
04:47of staff. So, yeah, we really, really wanted this win. So to, yeah, to do it in the end is super nice.
04:55Well, the gaps were super tight today with just nine seconds separating the top six teams.
05:00Among the GC outfits, Visma LisaBike lost 21 seconds after their mix-up at the start.
05:07Lidl Trek had the top five riders overall, with van Dijk saying she was honoured to wear red on
05:11behalf of the team. Misha Bredewold is the best of the rest for SD Works.
05:18Monday's second stage should give the sprinters a first chance to stretch their legs
05:22as we head from Molins de Rey to San Bois de Jobregat. Do join us then, and thanks for watching.
