Wes Streeting has said that Reform UK poses a genuine threat to Labour and is now being regarded as a serious opposition force following the party’s strong performance in the local elections. Both Labour and the Conservatives are facing pressure to turn around their fortunes after Reform gained control of 10 councils and secured more than 600 seats in Thursday’s polls. The Health Secretary acknowledged that Reform UK is a significant threat and that his party is taking it seriously. Report by Covellm. 00:00I don't think it's clear yet whether it's reform or the Conservatives that emerge as the main party
00:06of the right at the next general election. We don't have a candidate in that particular race,
00:12like watching Alien vs Predator, rather neither of them won, but we're determined to take them
00:17on. And with reform, Nigel Farage is now positioning himself as a candidate to be Prime
00:22Minister, so we'll take that threat seriously. He's got to start answering some questions about
00:27the NHS. He says that those who can afford to pay should. Well, who's he talking about?
00:32How much is he expecting them to pay? He wants an insurance-based system for our health care.
00:37Well, that's the dismantling of the National Health Service, free at the point of use we've had since
00:411948. If he wants to run the country, he's going to have to start answering some questions about
00:47how his policies stack up and the threat he poses to the NHS.
00:51Well, obviously, these are disappointing results for Labour. And we know that whether it's the
00:58Conservative Party or reform we're up against at the next general election, we're up for that fight.
01:03And we know that by the next general election, people need to be feeling the change, feeling our
01:09country is moving in the right direction. And while we're making progress, NHS waiting lists are
01:14falling, interest rates are coming down, wages are finally rising higher than inflation.
01:19And that change is not yet being felt universally across the country. So lots done, so much more
01:25to do, not a hint of complacency from this government. The Prime Minister is determined that we make
01:30progress on those issues, on the economy and cost of living, on our borders and security and on
01:35our National Health Service. We need to go further and faster.
