Yara Shahidi's hidden talent and the shows she can't stop bingeing in the latest episode of Pop Quiz.
Transcript
00:00I'm a little afraid to do the balloon closing.
00:02Let's go for it.
00:06Hey, I'm Yara Shahidi, and I'm playing Pop Quiz with Marie Claire.
00:11Let's go.
00:13What is the best gift you've received?
00:16My pocket watches.
00:18When I was young, that is literally all I wanted.
00:22And getting a vintage pocket watch for Christmas was incredible.
00:28I was prepared.
00:30How did you make your first dollar?
00:33I was six weeks old, the air was brisk,
00:36and I was in an advertisement, a print ad, for life insurance.
00:42It was just little baby Yara looking into the camera,
00:45like wouldn't you want life insurance to protect this?
00:48Next one.
00:50What word makes you cringe?
00:53I remember in ninth grade,
00:55my religion teacher wanted to find words that intentionally made us cringe,
01:02and so he found the word puse.
01:04It's a color.
01:05And I just, I don't like any bit of it.
01:08Okay.
01:09What can you not miss on TV or a streamer?
01:13Okay, I've watched way too many episodes of Atlanta,
01:20and the reason I say that is that there aren't many episodes,
01:22which means I've just continued to watch it and re-watch it.
01:25I loved re-watching Avatar with my brothers.
01:29Those are some that come top of mind.
01:30Great British Baking Show.
01:32Oh, that's my stuff.
01:34Last song you got stuck in your head.
01:37Oh, easy.
01:38The last one was called Pears by Weston Estate.
01:42I have been obsessed.
01:44Movie that makes you cry.
01:48So, you know that one part in Black Panther?
01:50Like, mind you, I've watched this movie five times,
01:52but when Michael B. Jordan says,
01:54I was just a young kid running around Oakland,
01:57I'm paraphrasing.
01:58Believing in fairy tales?
02:00There's something about that line
02:01that a single tear trickles down my face,
02:03like, on cue.
02:05Favorite couch snack.
02:07Other than nectarines, which was my favorite snack,
02:10like, favorite junk food snack
02:12would have to be those kettle corn pop chips.
02:14Such a delicious snack.
02:15What is something people would be surprised
02:18to know about you?
02:19My general party trick is that I sound hollow right here.
02:25The last book I read,
02:27it was probably something for my thesis.
02:30The work that I read was called
02:32Black Images, White Screens.
02:34Or maybe reversed.
02:35White Screens, Black Images.
02:37I think there's something so interesting
02:38about how granularly he analyzes old movies and films
02:43to understand why representation matters.
02:45Oh my god, this is such a cool question.
02:48Do you have any secret talents?
02:50I dabble in Old English,
02:53and the only phrase I've retained after a year of studying it
02:56is, um, the king said, which is,
02:59The last text you sent.
03:10Oh, it was a picture I sent of my brother,
03:12and I sent that to the family group chat
03:14because I had a picture of him
03:15that happened, like, a year ago to date,
03:17in which he looks like a different human being.
03:19Oh my god.
03:22What should every woman try at least once in her life?
03:25Oh, you know one thing I tried?
03:27I had a year of saying no.
03:29Our yeses are extremely powerful,
03:31but I know, especially as a young woman
03:33and a young woman of color growing up in this world,
03:35getting comfortable saying no
03:37and not having to justify it
03:39is something that takes constant practice.
03:41So, my year of no is a must try.
03:44And just like that, no more balloons.
03:46Well, that was Pop Quiz,
03:48and I hope you had just as good of a time as I did.
03:52See you later.
