00:00I'm not sure how the Trayvon Diggs situation became controversial, but here we are.
00:09I'm Mike Fisher, your trustee and trustee reporter.
00:10We are in Frisco, Texas, home of the Dallas Cowboys.
00:13This is the fishbowl that is the star we'll be inside in a little bit.
00:17Maybe this is Stephen Jones, the Cowboys COO, having been misunderstood.
00:22Maybe somebody's misspeaking, or maybe somebody's just missing the point,
00:28or making stuff up, or stirring stuff up about cornerback Trayvon Diggs
00:32and his efforts to work his way back from his 2024 season-ending knee surgery.
00:38Fake news.
00:41Here we are getting ready for Cowboys OTAs and minicamp and training camp.
00:49And Cowboy fans find themselves in the middle of online debates.
00:54Questions like, will Diggs be ready when the team kicks off the season in September?
00:59Well, the answer is no.
01:01The answer is almost certainly no.
01:03A Cowboy source telling CowboysCountry.com, me, fake news.
01:09That's fake news.
01:11There has at no point in this process ever been a responsible report from inside this building
01:16suggesting with any realism that Diggs would be healthy by the start of September 2025
01:22when the season kicks off.
01:23How did we get here?
01:24Pro Bowl playmaker Diggs battled through the calf injury.
01:27You start the first 10 games of the season last year.
01:29Then his knee flared up.
01:31That side lined him for two games.
01:33He returned to play a full game in week 14.
01:35Didn't go well.
01:36Was shut down then.
01:38And then was scheduled for surgery.
01:41That knee surgery was finally performed in late February.
01:46Tissue graft surgery on his left knee.
01:47As we reported at the time via sources inside this building.
01:53That procedure and the ensuing rehab was going to sideline him for a period of at least eight months.
02:00That timeline simply doesn't allow for this debate.
02:03That timeline doesn't allow for a return to training camp in Oxnard in July.
02:07And if you do the math, it suggests a fully healthy return, not in September when the season starts,
02:14but in November, again, do the math, has the surgery in late February, I think on the 23rd, March, April, May, June, July, August, September.
02:26That's eight months.
02:27That gives you a chance to, after September, be ready.
02:31So, October, November?
02:37Injuries have, of course, become a bugaboo for Diggs.
02:39It's too bad.
02:40Last two years.
02:41All after signing his new $20 million per year contract.
02:44Tore his ACL after just two games in 2023.
02:48That required an extensive rehab process that sidelined him until August 2024,
02:54along with whispers from the organization that he didn't rehab quite properly, quite intensely enough.
03:03And Jerry Jones has openly talked about that now, saying,
03:06I think he's learned from that experience.
03:08Jones says, this time around, he'll come back quicker and sounder.
03:13Sounder's fine.
03:14Come back more sound.
03:16Come back more quickly?
03:17No, that ain't it.
03:19It's not fair to report or to suggest that Diggs is somehow supposed to beat the clock on the eight-month rehab process.
03:26It's not responsible to suggest that he should somehow accelerate everything,
03:30because there's pressure coming from third-round rookie, Siobhan Revell,
03:33who, by the way, has his own need to rehab.
03:36The Cowboys need to do this right.
03:39Diggs needs to do this right.
03:41And anybody with a hand in spreading fake news, we should all try to do that right, too.
03:47In Frisco with the Cowboys, Fish, out.
