00:00Journalists in Gaza and in West Bank in Palestine have done an incredible job in trying to cover what is happening inside the Palestinian territory.
00:09Over 210 Palestinian journalists have been killed since the 7th of October 2023, according to the Palestinian Journalist Syndicate.
00:20In many cases, we believe that such killings have been probably intentional.
00:28There are indications of that. They have been struck while they have been doing duty.
00:34Journalists have a special protection under international humanitarian law.
00:39So in these cases where there are suggestions that journalists could have been killed intentionally, this could be war crimes.
00:48And they have to be investigated thoroughly, all the 210 killings or more, and perpetrators brought to justice.
00:57In other words, accountability for such killings.
01:00This is one of the most deadliest plays on earth for journalists.
01:04I mean, the vast number of journalists who have been killed in action or when they were in their houses, including in many cases their family members, it's unparalleled.
01:18We don't even know how many people have been injured.
01:21So that's another aspect that we have to keep in mind.
01:25We want to acknowledge the amount of work that is done in exposing what is going on in some parts of the world.
01:33For instance, even in Gaza, where international journalists cannot go, national journalists have put their lives in forefront to tell the truth about what is happening in these places.
01:44So it's extremely important, not just in informing the world, but also in bringing accountability and justice.
01:52Now, I can understand family members look for final accountability.
01:57They want to see justice.
01:59These things sometimes take time.
02:01So patience, but also just want to, you know, thank the journalists for being such a strong part of civil society in bringing truth, justice, and accountability for human rights and humanitarian law violations around the world.
