00:00In its final year in office, the former Labor government initially froze vehicle
00:07registration costs for this financial year. In a pre-election move, it then took things
00:12a step further, introducing a one-off, one-year, 20% vehicle rego cut from September. The new
00:19LNP government says it will now increase vehicle rego costs back up to what they were before the
00:25discount, plus out an extra 3.4%. All state government fees and charges will also increase
00:32by the same amount from July 1. So we're very focused on driving down cost of living for Queenslanders
00:39and this is a moderate increase that is reflective of what has occurred in recent years. They should
00:44be doing everything that they can within their powers to make things more affordable for everyday
00:48Queenslanders. So what does this mean for your hip pocket? At the start of this financial year,
00:54the cost of registering a standard four-cylinder vehicle, excluding CTP insurance and traffic
01:00improvement fees, was $360. When the 20% discount was introduced, that figure fell to $288. But under
01:09the new vehicle rego hike, that fee will climb to $372. Of course, I don't want any more fees to
01:17increase. The cost of living is already hard. What can you do about it? You can't change it.
01:23They've made a decision. We've only got the one car, so we've only got to register one. But I mean,
01:28just expect it these days, to be honest. The rego price increase will take effect from September 16.
