An iconic London red bus has been turned into a "beautiful" two-bedroom apartment - and it could be yours for less than £50k.

Dan Atkins, 45, founded Buses4Homeless in 2020 after he discovered that one of his friends had become homeless and was sleeping in a coach's luggage compartment.

He wanted to help those in similar situations and so started transforming a selection of London's iconic red double-deckers into homeless shelters which provide spaces to sleep, cook, eat, relax, and search for jobs.

Now though, Mr Atkins, a father-of-one from Sunbury-on-Thames, has taken on a new challenge - and has converted a double-decker into a two-bedroom family home.

The 1998 diesel bus features a master bedroom, a kids' bunkbed room, a designer kitchen, a luxury bathroom, and a stylish living area.

It also boasts a 32 inch smart TV, a breakfast bar, and an engine bay converted into a large, lit storage space.

Mr Atkins says he reckons it's "one of the most beautiful buses that has ever been renovated" and as a result is selling it for just shy of £50,000.

All the money will go towards his charity - so he can help more people escape homelessness.

Mr Atkins says the engine has been professionally removed, making this a fully static build – ideal for permanent placement in a holiday park, private land, or glamping site.

He believes it could be a unique family retreat, a stylish home office setup - or even the ultimate Airbnb.

The converted bus is currently on sale on eBay for £49,995. You can view the listing here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/226713620270?itmmeta=01JT0PKTQMSJP54FKZGRX6ARQC&hash=item34c92f4f2e:g:uf4AAOSwz0RoCecn

00:00Hi, I'm John Atkins and this is Roy Nagel and we have kitted out this amazing bus.
00:13Basically what it's all about is helping prison leavers and ex homeless people to upskill,
00:21to learn different things and basically get back on their feet once they come out.
00:26And this bus is the absolute epitome of it.
00:29Roy and I have been kitting this out, he's been absolutely instrumental in helping create
00:35this, do all the carpentry, the flooring, the painting, basically everything I do, Roy
00:42fixes.
00:43Yeah.
00:44Hey mate.
00:45Every time.
00:46So John, tell us a little bit about the process and what are you most proud of on the bus?
00:51I'm proud of all of it, from start to finish.
00:55Straight into doing something good.
00:57Yeah.
00:58It's changing my life.
00:59Previously we ran a project called Buses for Homeless, which kind of says what it does
01:02on the tin.
01:03We had an eating, a sleeping, a learning and a wellbeing space.
01:07And basically it was an entire program that helped homeless people get back onto their
01:14feet, get into education, training and then employment.
01:18And now we're moving on to modular housing, which is a far better concept and far more sustainable.
01:26But I've always wanted to create an amazing bus that's super high level, super high spec,
01:32type of a static bus as well, used for either a static location, an Airbnb, or just to have an
01:40incredible bus parked somewhere in a lush English beach or forest or something like that.
01:48What we're aiming to achieve here is to auction it off, obviously for the highest bidder to raise as much money as we possibly can to help support the next iteration of our program, which is the modular housing and the solutions for living program.
02:01We've got a full working kitchen, a beautiful lounge, a working shower, upstairs there's a couple of bunks in the kids room, there's also a master bedroom, a stunning space at the top where you can have some food as a family or a games night or something like that.
02:19There's a desk for the Instagrammers or dad or mum who's working.
02:24We've put so much thought and effort into the detail of this bus and cannot wait to see it in the home of a new person, sighted and just having people enjoy it.
02:37And none of it would have happened if it wasn't for my mate Roy here.
02:40So mate, honestly, thank you so much.
02:42You're an absolute legend.
02:44How has the support and the work helped you?
02:49Amazing.
02:51Got everything I've ever needed.
02:54Over the years, working with various builders and stuff, and working with my old man, learning from him.
03:04Yeah, just learning off a lot of people.
03:06Never done a bus.
03:08Houses, yeah.
03:09Building sites, yeah.
03:10Bus, never.
03:10So the question is, would you build another one?
03:13100%.
03:13That's my boy.
03:16That's my boy.
