00:00I'm quite happy to take that, go into next week, make sure you don't concede early and fingers crossed to see Manchester United in the final.
00:07It was quite an incredible result tonight for Manchester United, they're halfway into the final.
00:13Let's get some instant reaction now on the pitch, Becky Ives is with Harry Maguire.
00:19Thank you Harry, wow, what a night for Manchester United, 3-0 after the first leg, was that just a really well executed first 45 minutes?
00:26Yeah, I think it was, listen, the first 20 minutes was difficult, the crowd was super loud, the intensity was high, they come afterwards, we met a few areas, we looked a little bit nervous at times in the first 20 minutes, but I thought the lads grew into the game really well and we weathered the storm and we knew we'd get our chances and yeah, it was really clinical in that first half, so really pleasing to go to Old Trafford, listen, the tie's not done, we'll be focused, we'll be ready at Old Trafford next Thursday for the second leg and I'm sure Old Trafford will be like this place.
00:55Well, should we just talk about your positioning lately? Because whether you are centre-back, centre-forward, are you having a go on the right wing today? It was exquisite down there.
01:04Yeah, no, I found myself obviously attacking the back post and I think Garner passed me the ball, but no, it was nice to do a bit of dribbling out there and obviously putting a great cross and we had a lot of bodies in the box, so they must have trusted me to get that cross in, so no, it was a nice feeling and Kassa put it in the back of the net, it was a great header in the end.
01:23You won't have seen this because you've just come off, but they're calling you Haradinho on Twitter right now, you've got a new nickname.
01:29Oh, it's brilliant, I'm sure there's a few nicknames out there for me, but no, it's more important than we had, it was a clinical first half, a professional second half, we had chances to get the fourth, but we maybe could have played at a little bit bigger tempo,
01:43but I think we played really, maybe a little bit too safe, but no, it's a great victory in the end, but like I said, another big game on Thursday next week.
01:51Yeah, I know you said it's not done yet, but 3-0 up, taking it back to Old Trafford, is there one foot in the door, do you have that slight mentality?
01:58Yeah, of course, it's a great start, to come here and get a result, a victory and obviously three goals, clean sheet, it's a great start, we can't hide away from that,
02:08all the pressure will be on us now, everyone will expect us to go through to the final, so next Thursday we need to make sure we prepare well, prepare like we've done for this game,
02:15and if we do, we'll give ourselves a great opportunity to reach the final, and no, it's been a great night for us, but like I said, one foot in the final, but he's still not done.
02:26All right, we'll see you next week, well done Harry.
02:28Thank you very much, Becky, Harry Maguire there saying the tie isn't done despite the fact that they've got such a good lead, such a good result from this away tie,
02:41out at Athletic Club, leading by three goals to nil, going into the second leg next week, and we'll be there at Old Trafford to take it all in,
02:48and there is plenty more football to come as well, the highlight show follows us next, then at the weekend,
02:54we're back to Premier League action in the race for European football at Villa Park, where Fulham are the visitors,
02:59next week, Arsenal are hoping for a special Champions League comeback against PSG in Paris,
03:05we'll also have all the second legs of the Europa League and Conference League games, including Manchester United bringing that 3-0 lead back to Old Trafford.
03:17And live right now, it's the World Snooker Championship semi-finals, it's three frames all between Judd Trump and Mark Williams,
03:25that is live on TNT Sports 3.
03:28And we are also the home of cycling.
03:34Next week, we're going to be bringing you the first grand tour of the year as the world's top riders tackle the iconic Giro d'Italia.
03:41Britain's Tom Pidcock, who won the under-23 edition in 2020, will be one to watch on his senior Giro debut.
03:47We'll have every stage live, kicking off on Friday the 9th of May, live from midday on TNT Sports.
03:54European football on TNT Sports is sponsored by Motorway.
04:03Get him!
04:04TNT Sports, powered by Maitre.
04:08Ruben, congratulations. What pleased you most about tonight?
04:11I think the result is really good, but we have to understand the result also.
04:18At the same time, we struggled a lot in the beginning, and then the goal from Casimiro and the sent-off changed the game.
04:25But that is a good thing.
04:27With a little bit of luck, but we managed to keep us in the game, and then any game can change with one situation.
04:35I think we had opportunities to score one more.
04:38This is not done.
04:39They can do the same thing in Old Trafford, because they are really strong, they are really intense, and one sent-off can happen in our stadium, so we need to be prepared.
04:52Do you feel your senior players like Casimiro, Bruno Fernandes, Harry Maguire, the experience they are bringing you, is pulling you through these ties?
04:58I think it's a good point. You can feel that, especially in the beginning, even players like Ugarte, with a lot of experience, he was a little bit nervous.
05:11Patrick is a little bit nervous, so he's a semi-final. Of course, he's not Champions League, but he's a European competition.
05:18So these kind of players like Casimiro, Harry, Bruno Fernandes help a lot.
05:25It's going to get mentioned to you, so I might as well start. Harry Maguire tonight on the right wing, providing, wherever you put him at the minute, he provides you a solution.
05:34Yeah, he's a good winger.
05:38Sometimes there are moments in our life, and Harry had difficult moments, and everything he did was, I don't want to say wrong, but he's that way wrong.
05:51And now everything he does is good for the team, so he has to enjoy.
05:56Look, I know you just said this is not done, so is that the mentality that you have to take, whilst still being confident of being 3-0 up?
06:03Of course, we need to, of course, we are in the advantage. We have our fans. But again, this could change. Anything can happen in one game.
06:15Of course, we are confident, but we need to be really careful with our players against Brentford.
06:22Because you can feel that noose, Masraoui is dead, Patrick is tired, so we have to manage the players.
06:31Ruben, thank you.
06:32Great to hear from Ruben Amarim there. He's being cautious, saying that anything in football can happen.
06:41The same thing that happened tonight can happen next week at Old Trafford, but the other way around.
06:45But surely, Paul, barring some kind of disaster next week, Manchester United will be back there in three weeks' time for the final.
06:53Look, yeah, they should be, and you'd be very confident of that.
06:56I think he spoke well there. He said he was really happy with the result, but he understands the result as well.
07:02They had a couple of great chances of 0-0.
07:04The sending off, obviously, was a big factor in the game.
07:07But going to a place like Bilbao, we all said before the game, how tough that place is to go.
07:14And the struggle the first 20 minutes, it was difficult for them.
07:16He said, Lugati gave the ball away a couple of times.
07:19Dogu were the same as well.
07:21But you just think at 3-0 this, it should be over.
07:24But it's United these days, we don't really know what we're going to get.
07:28And they have been being at home 3-0 by a couple of teams this year, I think.
07:33So, look, you always go into it saying it's not over, but really, us from watching, it should be over.
07:40And I think it is.
07:41How sure is that result for you, Karen?
07:45I just want them to get through the first 20 minutes next week.
07:48Once they get through that, then I'll be happy.
07:51Because, like you said, Paul, the first 20 minutes of today's game, they have some quality.
07:56But I thought the experience, it was a classy performance for Manchester United Day.
08:00But you have to have the manager's mentality of it, it's only half-time.
08:04Because if you go in there a bit too arrogant, a bit too cocky at times, you know, you can get found out.
08:10It's at the right end of the pitch and he's doing his job in midfield as well.
08:13I still think he was a little bit sloppy at the time in the second half.
08:16And you've got that experience, you should not be giving Bill Bauer a kick of the ball.
08:19But, no, he's been good and got that goal.
08:22I'm not sure about Scott Saunders' comment there, a bit of sarcasm there.
08:26But, you know, amazing performance again from Harry Maguire and just delivering.
08:32And we heard high praise from Ruben Amarin for him as well.
08:35The character he's had to show to come back from really difficult moments in a United shirt to be the player he is now.
08:41Yeah, I mean, his journey's not been easy.
08:43And he's just got on with it.
08:45And you have to give him massive, massive credit for that.
08:47Last week you mentioned it, up there centre-forward getting the goal to, not last week,
08:52but two weeks ago against Lyon, getting them through and then tonight stepping up with the goods and leadership.
08:57And, OK, he went off a little bit earlier, but that's good from the manager, managing.
09:02So I'm thrilled because you want players that have to show and come through and shine.
09:06And he has.
09:06And like the manager said, he's got to enjoy this moment.
09:08Ruben Amarin said the sending off changed the game.
09:10That's fairly obvious.
09:12The penalty incident as well.
09:13Do you think both of these ultimately ended in the right decisions, Paul?
09:18Yeah, I think so.
09:19There was a slight chance of handball from Garnaccio that, you know, the answer got cleared as well.
09:26But, yeah, look, it's a definite penalty.
09:28I think he does.
09:29There is enough contact from him.
09:33And once you get the foul, obviously it's a penalty, isn't it?
09:36It's a red card.
09:36I think we've seen Harry Maguire at this point now say if it's a foul, it's a red card.
09:43And it is.
09:44And that was game over from then.
09:45Obviously got the third goal after that as well from a brilliant Bruno.
09:50Bruno Fernandes finish who has been stepped up, delivered with the goods again.
09:56And, look, it's 3-0 away from Armut Bilbao.
09:59What a result.
10:00You have to enjoy that sometimes.
10:03And like I say, you've got to say all the right things.
10:05We think it's, you know, we've got to be careful.
10:07But I didn't really see loads from Bilbao.
10:10Anyway, they had them two chances.
10:11But I didn't see a lot from them with Leatherman that was overly worrying for me.
10:152-0 would have been a good away result.
10:18But the third goal from Bruno Fernandes, again, just before the half-time whistle.
10:23And really good work from Agate in the build-up as well, Kev.
10:25Yeah, and Casemiro has played that pass through to break through the lines.
10:29Kev, I mentioned it earlier, you get your little bit of luck when you win your 50-50 battles.
10:32But as soon as it goes through to Bruno, you know, we already know it's in the back of the net before he's hit it because the form is in.
10:38But nice little flick round the corner, as you mentioned, from Agate.
10:41Good strength from Hoyland to win that 50-50.
10:43Nice little flick.
10:44And that's it.
10:45Done and dusted.
10:45Bang.
10:46And you mentioned about the penalty decision.
10:48I was so surprised at how much Athletic lost their heads in today's game.
10:53And Man United recognised it, turned the screw and took momentum and took advantage on that.
10:58And it's a brilliant performance, brilliant result, and you couldn't ask for any more, Jules.
11:03Two goals in seven minutes there from Bruno Fernandes in that first half.
11:07And when they came into the second half, Paul, was it just about controlling it, seeing it out at that point?
11:12Would you have liked to see them maybe get another goal?
11:17I think if they'd kept the ball better, I think another goal would have come eventually.
11:22I think Bilbao would have just been tired, would have had nowhere to go.
11:26But 3-0, look, it didn't matter at our time.
11:30The one thing they didn't want was conceded a goal, and that never looked like it was going to happen.
11:34So I think keep the ball all day.
11:36Don't give them a sniff of it.
11:383-0 should be enough.
11:39Come on.
11:404-5, great, perfect.
11:42Yeah, you're still going to go through.
11:43But 3-0 away from home.
11:45Just keep the ball.
11:47Keep the ball away from them.
11:48Don't give them a sniff.
11:49Don't give them a kick of the football.
11:50Certainly better than I think most Manchester United fans were hoping.
11:56Bruno Fernandes, who got two goals on the night, is pitch side right now with Becky Ives and Rio Ferdinand.
12:05Yeah, thank you very much, Jules.
12:07It's emptied out here.
12:07It's a lot quieter than what it was when we were playing out there, because it was loud tonight, Bruno.
12:11But 3-0 away from home.
12:13When you thought about this game tonight, was that scoreline sort of ever on the radar?
12:16No, you can never predict a scoreline like that, obviously.
12:21A very tough team.
12:22As you said, the atmosphere was unbelievable, crazy.
12:24Never thought.
12:26I knew that they were very passionate by the club and everything, but never thought it was like this.
12:30It was very good, but I love these atmospheres.
12:32I love to play in these kind of stadiums.
12:34It's very good.
12:35And obviously, as you said, the result for us is unbelievable.
12:38We could, in the first half, get that result and then, in the second half, control the game.
12:42I think we should push a little bit more in that second half, be a little bit quick on the ball to go forward.
12:47But we control the game and that is good.
12:49Your manager said to Becky earlier in the interview that he felt the first 20 minutes, a few nerves in the team.
12:55You, as the leader and captain in this team, do you take responsibility in those moments?
12:58And how do you kind of calm the nerves of your teammates?
13:01I don't think we were expecting that.
13:03You know, we knew that we've been saying that all week, that the time that the three, four days that we had to prepare the game,
13:10we said that even before the game, guys, the atmosphere is going to be bouncing.
13:14The guys are going to come to press us.
13:15They're going to try in the first 15, 20 minutes.
13:18We just have to try to play on the ball to calm them down.
13:21When the ball goes out, we go a little bit slow, just like make the game a little bit slower for us in the first 15 minutes.
13:26And then it will come to us.
13:28Obviously, then we get the goal, we get the penalty, red card.
13:31And from there on, we could score the third goal so quick.
13:34And for us, it was brilliant to just stay on the ball and knew that they won't press as much as we preferred.
13:41Because I think if they press, we could play through them.
13:44And as I said, we were a little bit slow on the ball, just like waiting for them to step up.
13:48But obviously, they wanted to keep this result like this to try to come back in the next game.
13:53And we need to be very aware of that.
13:55Bruno, you've got ice in your veins.
13:56You are the calmest man under pressure in any moment, it would seem.
14:00I know Rhys has done the maths on this one more than me, haven't you?
14:02With the number of goals and involvements that Bruno has.
14:0537, I think.
14:06I know you must know.
14:0737 goal involvements this season.
14:09It's crazy.
14:10You're on the route to that 20 and 20 almost.
14:1219 goals.
14:12I knew I was around the 30s.
14:16I didn't know exactly how many it was.
14:18But obviously, I want to score.
14:20I want to assist because it's a big part of my game.
14:22And I need to take that responsibility because I know since I came to the club, and even before, the club bought me because I scored 32 goals in one season.
14:31And they knew that I could create, I could score.
14:33And I just need to keep delivering because if you want to be at the highest level, you need to be consistently delivering.
14:39Not everyone has the broad shoulders to take that responsibility on.
14:43Is that something you've always had as a kid, growing up?
14:45Or is that something you've developed and grown into here at Man United?
14:48I know you scored goals when you were at Sporting, but as a leader?
14:51Obviously, you need to grow.
14:52You need to understand where you are, the place you play for, the club you play for, and everything gets bigger.
14:57Obviously, Sporting is a massive club, but United is a global club.
15:01You know, like you said, it's unbelievable.
15:03The attention we get, the pressure we get and everything.
15:05But what's play is football.
15:07It's what we love to do.
15:09To be honest, obviously, I feel the pressure, even every penalty.
15:12I'm jealous.
15:12I feel the pressure, and I think that's the good thing of football, and I think it's what we have to enjoy.
15:18Because when I finish my career, that pressure will go away, and I will be much more relaxed.
15:22And this is what I say to every time the manager and the physio, like, I need to relax, I need to rest.
15:27I say, like, no, when I die, I will have a lot of time to lay down and rest myself.
15:31How much banter is there in the dressing room right now towards Harry Maguire being on the right wing there?
15:36Harry Dino is what he's currently being called all over social media.
15:39I said that straight away, what a winger.
15:41I don't think he even thought that he had that in his locker.
15:45No one was expecting that.
15:46I think even the opposition was not expecting that to come.
15:49Obviously, we're very happy.
15:50Harry is a much more confident man now.
15:52You know, like, things are coming through.
15:54And when he's playing, when you get the games, when he's also getting goals, he's defending very well, his position is becoming more and more strong.
16:02He's a very good leader.
16:03So it's a good thing for him.
16:05And we hope just it just keeps improving because at this club, you need to keep improving all the time.
16:10You can't you can't just stop.
16:11So we'll be seeing you here in a few weeks.
16:13Yeah, I hope so.
16:14That's the goal.
16:16That's the goal.
16:16And that's what I said.
16:18We want our fans to travel twice to Bilbao and ourselves to.
16:21Good.
16:22All right.
16:22Look forward to it.
16:22People are shouting in the stands here, aren't they?
16:24The ones that are still here.
16:25But Bruno, we're going to let you.
16:26Thanks so much.
16:26Appreciate it.
16:27Take care.
16:28Whatever.
16:28Good luck.
16:31Thanks, Bruno.
16:34Thank you very much, guys.
16:36A great interview there with Bruno Fernandes.
16:38Do you know what?
16:38I actually love hearing that he enjoys that pressure.
16:42Do you?
16:43Yeah.
16:44That's why you're at Manchester United.
16:45It's going to happen.
16:46He's done.
16:48He's been the one player who's been there for the full season.
16:50You know what I mean?
16:51It's all there.
16:52I wish we kept the microphone up for this bit.
16:53I want to hear what you're saying there.
16:55Yeah.
16:55It'd be nice, wouldn't it?
16:56Look, he's been brilliant throughout.
16:58He's had his criticism, of course, especially as a leader at times as well.
17:01But he stepped up at this season when the team's been really struggling at times.
17:07And he's always the one who's there with a goal or an assist or something to affect the game either way.
17:13It's all set up for an All-English final now, Karim.
17:15Surely?
17:16I hope so.
17:163-1 lead for Spurs, 3-0 for Manchester United.
17:19We couldn't ask for a better evening, really, for all the English clubs.
17:22So, yeah, special and hope we can see them both there.
17:25It would be a great final.
17:26Will Man United be there?
17:27Easy.
17:28Easy?
17:29No problem.
17:30No problem.
17:30I don't want any nerves next week then when we're pitch side at Old Trafford.
17:34Unless they get the first.
17:35Unless they get the first.
17:36That's what I thought you might say.
17:38Paul, Karen, thank you so much for your company tonight.
17:41And great having the guys over in Bilbao as well.
17:43Don't forget, the highlight show is coming up for you next.
17:47If you want to relive all of those goals, you want to see the goals from the other games as well, that's coming up for you next on TNT Sports 1.
17:54But for United, a 3-0 lead.
17:56And surely, surely, those Manchester United fans are going to be back on a plane to Bilbao in three weeks' time.
18:01Let's see if United can get the job done next week.
18:04We'll see you at Old Trafford for that one.
