Text messages between accused mushroom triple murderer Erin Patterson and her estranged husband have been put under the microscope on day four of the trial. Ms Patterson is accused of killing her ex-husband’s parents and aunt who died after she served them a beef wellington lunch containing poisonous death cap mushrooms in 2023.

00:40there was a lot of tension in their relationship and a lot of tension in his mum and dad's relationship
00:46with Erin as well. The court was also shown messages between the pair showing there had been
00:52disagreements around child support. Mr Patterson has been emotional at times while giving evidence
00:58yesterday he wiped away tears when he was shown a video of his son with his late dad in the
01:03backyard. His mother Gail's voice heard in the background. Erin Patterson's defence has conceded
01:08she was foraging for mushrooms but she didn't seek out death cat mushrooms and the matter will
01:14return to court on Monday where Mr Patterson will continue giving evidence.
