Early this morning, Delhi-NCR experienced heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds, bringing much-needed relief from the scorching heat but also causing significant chaos. Due to intense overnight showers and thunderclaps, several areas across Delhi saw severe waterlogging. Streets, including the one leading to the New Delhi Railway Station, were submerged, causing massive traffic snarls and slowing down vehicles. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for rainfall in the region, warning residents of possible disruptions.Visuals from ITO, one of Delhi’s busiest junctions, show knee-deep water affecting traffic and stranding commuters. Local authorities, including civic agencies and the Delhi Police, have deployed barricades and pumps at key locations like Minto Road, which historically suffers from waterlogging. Although some improvement was seen at Minto Road, several other parts like Lodhi Road saw large trees falling due to winds reaching over 50 km/h. Civic bodies like MCD and NDMC have begun clearing the debris, but many areas remain affected. In Dwarka, a tragic incident occurred where four individuals lost their lives near a tubewell. The strong winds also caused damage in other northern states—Anantnag in Jammu and Kashmir saw two houses blown away. Cities like Mathura, Bulandshahr, and Gurugram are also grappling with heavy rain and waterlogging. The IMD reports rainfall ranging between 60–77 mm across various parts of Delhi. While the weather has cooled, residents are being advised to stay cautious as the next few days could bring further rain-related disruptions in North India.
